Chapter 4

Sonnet felt pain all over her back as she got pushed against the cold wall.

She raised her head and caught sight of Mason’s dark and angered gaze.

“Sonnet Turner, tell me why you have the money to send your father to the hospital that I’m working at for treatment? You hooked up with a wealthy man, right?!” Mason said through gritted teeth.

Sonnet laughed sarcastically and said, “Even if I hooked up with a wealthy man, does that have anything to do with you?”

He had broken up with her five years ago. Although she had assumed that she was pregnant with his child back then, she had not asked him to stay. They were strangers from that moment onwards.

If it were not for her son, she would not even have met up with him again before this.

“I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person!” Mason shouted angrily.

“What kind of person am I?”

“You’re willing to sell yourself just for money!”

Sonnet laughed and asked, “Aren’t you that type of person as well?”

She had heard about everything that happened to him after they broke up.

After breaking up with her, he immediately got together with another woman. That woman had an excellent family background.

How else could he become the department head at the age of twenty-six?

Mason’s face twitched as he said, “Sonnet Turner, don’t make things up!”

Sonnet pushed away his hands, which were placed at both sides of her body, and spoke to him in an even tone, “Mason Stewart, remember that today’s our first time meeting each other. You’re my father’s principal physician. That’s all there is to our relationship.”

After speaking, she turned around and walked away.

However, Mason grabbed hold of her and pulled her into his arms. He then lowered his head and tried to kiss her!

Sonnet moved her head aside to avoid him. She then kicked him in the crotch with her knee.

Mason grunted and clasped his crotch.

Sonnet slapped him across the face and shouted, “Mason Stewart! This is a warning. If you do this again, I won’t show you any mercy!”

Mason shouted angrily, “Don’t you just want money? I have money as well. Sleep with me, and I’ll pay you some money!”

Sonnet let out an infuriated laugh. Her voice then softened as she said, “Mr. Stewart! I recall that you previously told me not to look for you as your wife would mind it a lot. However, you’re now asking me to sleep with you. Will your wife not mind it anymore?”

Mason remained silent.

Sonnet laughed sarcastically and walked out. When she arrived at the door, she suddenly stopped and turned around to look at him. “What’s the name of the club that we were at five years ago?”

Mason had brought her to the club that night. They drank a lot after that, so she could no longer remember anything about that night.

She had to be clear about the exact location of the club if she wanted to find her children’s biological father.

Mason held his crotch and raised his head to glare at her. He did not say anything.

“Alright, you don’t need to say anything. I’ll look for your wife and tell her that you just asked me to sleep with you!” Sonnet turned around and walked away.

“Lux Club!” Mason said in a raised voice.

“Where ‘s it?”

“Helio Road.”

Sonnet nodded and walked out.

Once she left, a sly glint flashed across his gaze. He muttered, “Are you trying to find that person? Dream on!”

Sonnet turned the corner and saw Jessie leaning against the wall. She was dressed in a white coat. There was a treacherous smile on her face as she said, “Sonnet, I’ve always wondered who the father of your children was. I didn’t expect Mason to be their father!”

Sonnet said in a low voice, “Jessie Cole, stop talking nonsense!”

“I’m talking nonsense?! Both of you were all over each other in the security passage just now. I saw everything! Tsk tsk tsk, you really do have everything planned out. You married a fool, and you’re also a mistress. You have both love and wealth!”

She spoke in an extremely loud voice. The commotion attracted the attention of the passersby around them.

Sonnet had a cold expression on her face. “If you came here to say spout nonsense, I’ll leave now!”

The elevator arrived, and she walked inside. However, Jessie walked into the elevator before the doors closed.

They were the only ones in the elevator. Both of them stared at each other. The atmosphere was extremely tense.

“Sonnet Turner, it seems like you’re pretty well off right now. In that case, let’s talk about your property!”

“What property?”

“The Turner family’s property in the village. Now that you’ve all moved to Harbor City, it’s time for you to hand over your property.”

She had received news that the government would be building a natural scenic area in the village. By then, the price of land there would skyrocket. One had to pay extremely high demolition fees if they wish to demolish any properties on that piece of land. The property could also be transformed into a homestay if they were not going to demolish it.

How could she give up on such an excellent opportunity?

Sonnet was instantly angered. Her father had still yet to undergo surgery, and Jessie was already trying to get her hands on the property they owned in the village!

“I won’t sell my old house,” she rejected her straight away.

“You got it wrong. I’m not asking you to sell it to me.”

“What do you want then?”

“I want you to give it to me.”

Sonnet laughed in rage and said, “Jessie Cole, you’re being way too greedy! Why would I give the property to you?”

“I’m Myles Turner’s biological daughter! That house belongs to me.”

Sonnet chuckled and said, “Hah, are you admitting that you’re dad’s biological daughter now? That works as well. In that case, shall I return to the Cole family and become Harold Cole’s biological daughter now?”

Jessie’s expression changed slightly. “Dream on!”

“You should stop dreaming as well. Why are you entitled to all benefits? Jessie Cole, you can’t be so greedy!”

Jessie nodded and said, “Sure! Let’s not talk about that. You should just give me the house and homestead!”

“Why should I do that?”

“That’s because we paid 15 million dollars of Myles Turner’s 74-million-dollar hospital fees! The Brooks family were only willing to pay 59 million dollars after they heard that you were from the village. We paid an additional 15 million dollars due to our past relationship with you. Therefore, shouldn’t you pay us back by giving us your property?” Jessie asked in a demanding tone.

“Tsk tsk, I didn’t know that our past relationship was so valuable! It was actually worth 15 million dollars!” Sonnet said sarcastically, “We’ll never sell our property. We’ll slowly pay you back the 15 million dollars. We won’t take advantage of the Cole family at all!”

Jessie gritted her teeth and said, “Sonnet Turner, don’t make things hard for either of us when I’m still treating you nicely!”

“I can’t bear to receive such good treatment from you!”

The elevator door let out a loud “ding”. Sonnet then walked out of the elevator.

Jessie chased her out and shouted at her from behind, “Initially, the fact that you’re a mistress had nothing to do with me. However, since you’re not willing to work with me, don’t blame me for being cruel!”

Sonnet found her laughable. She did not even stop walking as she said, “Do as you wish!”

Jessie gritted her teeth and added, “The Brooks family still don’t know that you have children. If I tell them about this, what do you think the outcome will be?”

Sonnet turned around to look at her.

Jessie had a pleased expression on her face as she said, “You probably won’t be able to earn much as a mistress. Otherwise, your father won’t be in such a state right now. If the Brooks family takes back the money they gave you for your father’s treatment fees, you…”

“Smack!”

Jessie was interrupted by the crisp sound of a slap to her face.

Jessie was momentarily stunned as she held her face. She then shouted out angrily, “Sonnet Turner, how dare you hit me?!”

Sonnet fixed a harsh glare on her. “Jessie Cole, don’t forget how your thesis came about! You can do as you wish if you’d really like to become the joke of the upper social circle of Harbor City!”

Jessie’s face twitched. She no longer dared to say anything.

Sonnet turned around and walked away with large strides.

Jessie returned to her sense when she noticed her silhouette vanishing. She stamped her feet in anger.

Darn it. Not only did Sonnet slap her across the face, but she even threatened her with that incident! She would not let her off that easily!
