Chapter 12

Sonnet walked out from the back door of Lux Club. The driver of the beer delivery truck had left a long time ago.

Sonnet walked to the side of the road and was about to call for a taxi when she suddenly saw a few men walking out of the main entrance of Lux Club. They chatted and laughed while getting into two separate cars.

Her gaze landed on one of the men. Her heart skipped a beat.

Was that Maxwell Brooks?

She then shook her head and denied her thoughts. How was that possible? He should be dressed in dinosaur-print pyjamas and sleeping at home right now.

“Honk honk honk!” A series of honks rang out, and she immediately returned to her senses.

She turned around and caught sight of a small figure standing in the middle of the road.

The road was busy with traffic. Plenty of cars honked at the child, but it seemed like he could not hear them at all. He simply stood there without moving.

Sonnet immediately ran over. She took the child in her arms and ran to the side of the road.

After putting him down, she realized that the child was an extremely pretty little boy.

He seemed to be around three years old. He had large eyes and long lashes, making him appear even prettier than a little girl!

“It’s very dangerous for you to walk on the road like that. Do you understand?” Sonnet asked him.

The little boy raised his gaze to look at her. There was an innocent expression on his face. He did not utter a single word.

Sonnet asked again, “Where are your parents?”

She thought that a child at his age should be able to speak.

However, the little boy remained silent. He kept staring at her with a dazed expression on his face.

Sonnet felt somewhat exasperated. She turned around and looked at their surroundings. She saw a police station at the corner of the street around 2 hundred meters away. She planned to carry the child over and let the police search for his family.

She took a few steps after carrying the child. Suddenly, someone rushed over and grabbed her arm. “Stand right there, kidnapper!”

Sonnet turned around and saw the middle-aged woman that had collided with her while leaving the room just now.

“You misunderstood. I was just trying to bring the child to the police station over there…”

“Yeah, that’s right. Let’s go to the police and let them put a kidnapper like you behind bars!” The woman cut her off while she was speaking. She completely disregarded everything that she had said just now.

“I’m not a kidnapper!” Sonnet raised her voice.

“If you aren’t a kidnapper, why are you carrying Little Young Master?!”

The woman reached out to carry this child while speaking. However, the child has his arms wrapped tightly around Sonnet’s neck, and he would not let her go.

He held her extremely tightly. Sonnet almost found it hard to breathe due to his vice-like grip!

“Little Young Master?” The woman stared at the child in shock.

“What’s going on?” A low and icy voice rang out.

The woman immediately turned around and reported to the man courteously, “Mr. Scott, this woman kidnapped Little Young Master.”

Sonnet immediately explained herself, “I didn’t do that. I came out and saw him standing in the middle of the road…”

However, someone interrupted her before she could finish speaking, “She didn’t kidnap him.”

Sonnet turned around and saw the fierce man from inside the room just now.

It turned out that this kid was his son.

The nanny was overly eager to perform well in front of Logan Scott. She pulled Sonnet’s hands away and tried to take the child from her arms.

However, the child curled himself up in Sonnet’s arms and refused to come out.

Logan frowned and spoke to the nanny icily, “You can’t look after him well. You don’t have good judgment either. Scram right now!”

The nanny was so afraid that she trembled all over. “Mr. Scott…”

“Quit the nonsense. Mr. Scott asked you to leave, so leave!” The plump man roared out.

The nanny no longer dared to say anything. She immediately ran off in a hurry.

Logan slowly walked in front of Sonnet and reached out his arm toward the child. “Shamus Scott, come here.”

The child did not move.

Sonnet tried to place the child in Logan’s arms. However, the child kept grabbing onto her collar tightly and curled up in her arms. He seemed extremely resistant.

Logan looked at Sonnet and said, “It seems like my son likes you a lot.”

Sonnet’s heart lurched. She did not wish to be liked by the son of someone like this. It was not a good thing!

She drew on her vast childcare experience and caressed the child’s back lightly. She then whispered in his ear, “Don’t be afraid. Your father is here to bring you home. Why don’t you go home with him?”

Her words seemed to be a magic spell and the child immediately let go of her collar.

Sonnet placed the child in Logan’s arms. The child let go of her and wrapped his arms around Logan’s neck.

A surprised expression appeared on Logan’s sculpture-like face. A sense of gentleness filled his gaze.

Sonnet smiled. She then turned around and left.

After taking a few steps, Logan called after her, “Wait.”

She turned around and heard him say, “Are you looking for a job? My son needs a home teacher.”

Sonnet stared at him.

“The monthly salary is 7 thousand and 5 hundred dollars,” he told her.

Sonnet’s heart moved. It just so happened that she was looking for a job.

However, it was likely that the job title of a home teacher was just another name for a nanny. She would be extremely busy with the work, not to mention the Brooks family would not agree If she had to stay in Logan’s house. Besides, she had to look after her father as well.

“I probably won’t be able to stay…”

“You don’t need to stay at my place. You just need to work eight hours a day.”

Sonnet was completely sold on the idea. However, she felt like she still had to discuss this with Maxwell and the others.

“I need to have a discussion with my family first.”

Logan turned around to look at the plump man. The plump man walked over and handed a Sonnet a name card. “Call Mr. Scott as soon as possible. We won’t wait for you for long.”

Sonnet kept his name card, bid them farewell, and left.

On the way back, she thought about it and slowly got an idea.

It was not a bad idea to be the nanny of that adorable little boy. It matched her profession, and the salary was attractive as well. Besides, Logan seemed pretty powerful. Perhaps she could rely on his authority to investigate the incident from the past.

By the time she returned to the Brooks family, the house was already quiet. Everyone had already fallen asleep.

Sonnet quietly walked into her shared room with Maxwell.

She was just about to touch around in the dark and grab his blanket. However, the lights in the room were suddenly turned on.

Maxwell was wearing his dinosaur-print pyjamas. He looked at her with an aggravated expression on his face and asked, “Wifey, where have you been? Why are you back so late?”

Sonnet smiled and said, “My dad was sick. I’ve been looking after him in the hospital the entire day. I’m sorry. Did I wake you?”

Maxwell narrowed his eyes. She was lying to him.

There was a pitiful expression on his face. “I haven’t slept.”

“Why aren’t you sleeping?”

“I can’t sleep since I haven’t showered.”

“Why haven’t you showered?” Sonnet was shocked.

“Those two women said that they wanted to help me shower. I didn’t want them to do that, so I didn’t shower.”

The women that he was referring to should be the two maids that had just arrived.

Sonnet laughed and asked, “Don’t you know how to take a shower on your own?”

“I’m afraid that they’d come in. They have the key. How terrible!”

Sonnet’s smile slowly vanished. It seemed like Maxwell did not have it easy either.

He held the title of Second Young Master. He was handsome, but his intelligence was below that of an ordinary person. The maids would definitely have their minds set on taking advantage of him.

“Get Mr. Wilson to guard the door while you’re showering.”

“Mrs. Wilson went out to do some chores.”

No wonder things had turned out like this.

Sonnet caressed his shoulders and said, “Go ahead and shower. I’ll help you guard the door.”

Maxwell immediately nodded and said, “Alright.” He then walked into the bathroom obediently.

After closing the door of the bathroom, the innocent expression on his face vanished.

Maxwell took off his clothes and turned on the shower.

After showering for a while, something flashed across his vision, flew in from outside the window, and stuck onto the wall.

Maxwell fixed his gaze on it. It was a beetle!

He reached out and was about to shoo the beetle away when he suddenly paused…
