Chapter 3

“She’s a maid that works here! She cooks for Young Master and does the daily chores,” Mrs. Wilson said.

“Why would she lock you up?” Sonnet asked.

“She told me that something good will be happening to Young Miss tonight. She wouldn’t let me cause any trouble.”

Sonnet frowned. It sounded like Yannis knew what would happen to her…She should have been working together with Mr. Harrison!

“Come on, let’s look for her,” she told Mrs. Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson brought both of them to Yannis’ room. The strong stench of alcohol filled their noses the moment they pushed the door of her room open.

The alcohol smelled the same as the scent of alcohol on Mr. Harrison’s body. Sonnet became even more certain about her previous guess.

She looked inside the room. There was a drunk woman lying on the bed.

She walked over, picked up the glass of water on the bedside table, and splashed the water on Yannis’ face.

Yannis sat up in a state of shock. She wiped the water from her face and looked over.

She crinkled her eyes and smiled at Maxwell when she saw him. “Second Young Master, you’re finally here to look for me. I’ve waited for a really long time. Hurry up and let me hug you!”

She got down from the bed and pounced at Maxwell while speaking. Maxwell was so shocked that he hid behind Sonnet at once.

Sonnet raised her hand and slapped Yannis across her face without hesitation.

Yannis was momentarily dazed. She then jumped up, grabbed the ashtray on the table and threw it towards Sonnet.

Sonnet was taken aback. The ashtray was about to hit her.

However, Maxwell reached out his arm and shielded Sonnet from the ashtray at the very last moment.

He then pushed Yannis with all his might. Yannis flew backwards and fell down to the ground.

Sonnet gave Maxwell a thumbs up. “You did well!”

Maxwell was overjoyed. “Wifey taught me this! I should beat them up!”

Sonnet looked at Yannis. She had completely sobered up right now.

“Leave. You’ve been fired,” she told Yannis.

“What gives you the right to do so? I was hired by the Brooks family…”

“I’m the Second Young Miss of the Brooks family right now!” Sonnet interrupted her. She then added, “You’re a maid that works for the Brooks family. Not only did you get yourself drunk on the Second Young Master’s wedding night, but you even tried to harass him. You just threw an ashtray at him. Do you still think that you’ll be able to continue working here?”

Yannis stopped talking.

Sonnet said coldly, “Leave tonight. Otherwise, don’t blame me for calling the police and lodging a report against you for causing intentional bodily harm.”

She then instructed Mrs. Wilson, “Mrs. Wilson, please watch over her while she packs up.”

Mrs. Wilson pouted with anger and said, “Sure, don’t worry, Young Miss!”

Sonnet nodded at Mrs. WIlson. She then dragged Maxwell away.

He let out a pained whimper and frowned when Sonnet’s hand touched his arm.

Sonnet thought about how he had shielded her just now. His arm must have been injured. She then brought him to the living room and sat him down. After this, she rolled up his sleeve to take a look at his injury.

There was a bruise on his arm where the ashtray had hit him. She was afraid that he had hurt his bones.

She pressed down on his bruise and asked him, “Does it hurt?”

Maxwell winced, but he still showed her a smile. “It doesn’t hurt.”

The sensible and obedient look on his face reminded Sonnet of her son.

Her son, Jay Turner, always behaved this way as well. He would always force a smile on his face and tell her that it did not hurt no matter how uncomfortable he felt.

A sense of pity and adoration surged within Sonnet’s heart.

“It’ll be fine. Let me know if it hurts,” she said to him in a gentle voice.

Maxwell’s face crumpled as he pouted and said, “It hurts a lot…”

Sonnet burst out into laughter when she saw the exaggerated expression on his face. Although he was rather silly, he was not despicable at all.

If she had to stay here for some time, she did not mind looking after him.

“Don’t be so silly in the future. Don’t shield anyone else from danger, got it?” She told him.

However, he said intently, “Mrs. Wilson told me to treat my wife well.”

Sonnet suddenly felt rather touched.

Jessie had only told her that he was a fool. However, she did not know that he had such a genuine heart.

Sonnet lowered her head instinctively and quickly said in a muffled voice, “Don’t worry, I’ll treat you well too.”

She did not notice how Maxwell, who had an obedient expression on his face, faltered for a moment. A playful glint then flashed across his eyes.

His new wife seemed pretty adorable…

The next day, Sonnet was awoken by a call from the hospital. The hospital told her that her father’s medical fees were due. At the same time, the doctor wanted to discuss her father’s treatment plan with her as well.

She did not have the time to greet Maxwell and Mrs. Wilson as she immediately rushed to the hospital.

When Sonnet walked into the ward, Myles was talking to the doctor. Both of them turned around to look at her when they heard the sound of her footsteps.

Sonnet frowned when she saw the doctor’s face.

Enemies always tended to cross paths!

The doctor turned out to be her ex-boyfriend, Mason Stewart!

It seemed like Mason did not expect to see Sonnet here either. His expression darkened.

“Sonnie, you’re here!” Myles called out happily.

Sonnet moved her gaze away from Mason’s face. She rushed to the side of her father’s bed and held his hand. “Dad, how do you feel?”

“I’m doing pretty good. They told me that you were busy with something. What were you busy with?” Myles asked her.

She had previously warned the Cole family not to tell Myles the truth.

“Oh, one of my friends had an urgent situation. She asked me to help her out,” Sonnet gave him an excuse.

Myles nodded. He immediately introduced Sonnet to everyone when he noticed Myles staring at them silently.

“Sonnie, this is Mr. Stewart. He’s my principal physician.”

“Mr. Stewart, this is my daughter, Sonnet Turner!”

Sonnet smiled at Mason as if it was her first time seeing him. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Stewart. Moving forward, my father’s health will depend on you.”

Mason had a dull expression on his face as he said, “No worries, I’ll try my best.”

Just then a nurse standing outside the door called for him and he left in a hurry.

Sonnet peeled some fruits and fed her father pieces of fruit.

Myles had a worried expression on his face. “Sonnie, you must tell me the truth. Where did you get all the money to pay for my hospitalization fees?”

“I borrowed money from the Cole family. I’m not going to owe them the money forever. I’ll return the money to them in installments once I’ve earned enough money.” Sonnet had come up with a way to explain the situation to him a long time ago.

Myles’ eyes turned red-rimmed as he said, “In truth, you didn’t have to bother about me. I’ve made things hard for you for so many years. The sooner I die, the sooner you’ll be relieved of…”

Sonnet interrupted him, “Dad, don’t give up on hope so willy nilly. That’s what you taught me when I was young.”

She choked up slightly while speaking. “Your illness can still be treated right now. You must cheer up! You must be a good role model for my children! They’re still waiting for their grandfather to teach them lessons!”

Myles stopped talking. He then smiled and said, “Yeah, I still need to accompany the children as they grow up.”

Father and daughter met gazes and smiled at each other.

Sonnet hired a care worker for Myles as she would not be able to stay at the hospital and look after him every day.

She had lunch with Myles. After he fell asleep, she planned to head downstairs to buy some fruits for him.

When she arrived by the side of the security gate, someone suddenly popped out and dragged her into the security passage.
