Chapter 7

After returning to the ward, Sonnet first explained everything that had happened to her father.

Myles smiled and said, “I believe that you aren’t that type of person.”

His heart hurt when he saw the slap marks on her face. “Put some ointment on your face. Otherwise, it’ll swell up even more.”

Sonnet’s heart warmed up as she held her father’s hand tightly.

The police did not come. Sonnet did not make a police report just now. She was simply trying to scare off the plump woman. She also wanted to see how she would react.

She went to the doctor’s office to look for Mason. “I’d like to change my father’s general physician.”

Mason’s expression darkened as he questioned, “What do you mean by that? Do you think that I’m not skilled enough?”

“Do you think that I can trust you given our relationship?” Sonnet asked him in a straightforward manner.

“I won’t let you do this!”

“I’ll head to the medical office if you won’t let me do it. I’ll have no choice but to tell them everything when they ask me the reason why I’m asking for this.”

“You!” Mason gritted his teeth.

“Mr. York is a specialist. Let him be my dad’s general physician!” Sonnet turned around and left after speaking.

She had just taken a couple of steps forward when Mason pulled her arm harshly. “Sonnet, don’t go overboard!”

Sonnet tried to fling his hand off with all her might. She said icily, “Mason Stewart, I’ll repeat this. Please don’t lay your hands on me ever again!”

“Can I lay my hands on you if I pay you money?” Mason asked sarcastically.

Sonnet raised her hand to hit him.

However, Mason held her arm in place. “Back then, you pretended to be all innocent and refused to give me your first time. However, you gave it to someone else in the club. You’re now becoming someone else’s mistress just for money. That woman came to the hospital just to beat you up. Why did you still bother putting up an act in front of me?!”

Sonnet stepped on his foot harshly. He winced in pain and let go of her to hold his foot.

Sonnet looked down at him and said, “Mason, it’d be best if you switched my father’s general physician as soon as possible. If your wife finds out about this, I won’t take responsibility for anything.”

She walked away after speaking. However, she opened the door and saw a woman dressed in a white coat standing outside.

She was very young. She seemed to be around twenty-four to twenty-five years old. She had a regular appearance. She was slightly plump, and her makeup was rather heavy.

“What’s going on here?” The woman questioned in a heavy tone. She sounded rather suspicious.

“Darling!” Mason disregarded the pain in his foot and frantically ran over to Caitlyn Yale’s side.

It turned out that she was his wealthy wife!

Sonnet said, “Nice to meet you. I’m a patient’s family member. I came here to look for Mr. Stewart so we could discuss my father’s condition.”

“Why are you being all touchy with each other if you’re just here to discuss his condition?” Caitlyn asked with an ambiguous expression on her face.

“Darling, don’t misunderstand. She almost fell down just now. I pulled her back up,” Mason explained at once.

“Go out. I’d like to have a chat with this patient’s family member,” Caitlyn told Mason.

It was as if Mason was her obedient pet dog. He agreed obediently and walked out of the room.

Sonnet and Caitlyn faced each other when the office door closed.

“I know that you’re Mason’s ex-girlfriend,” Caitlyn said. Sonnet was rather taken aback.

Before Sonnet could reply to her, she added, “Transfer your father to another hospital.”

Sonnet’s face darkened. “Why should I do that?!”

“You’ll see each other every day. It isn’t appropriate. Therefore, it’d be better if you transferred your father to another hospital,” she said haughtily.

Sonnet laughed sarcastically and asked, “Why don’t you ask your husband to work in another hospital instead?”

“My husband still needs to progress in his career, and there isn’t that huge of a difference if you transfer to another hospital!”

“There isn’t that huge of a difference?! This involves a human life!” Sonnet was enraged.

What did this woman think of them? Was she allowed to look down on them and treat their lives lightly just because she was wealthier and had a higher status than them?”

“Aren’t you in a tight spot right now? I can pay you some money. Tell me. How much money do you want from me before you’re willing to transfer hospitals?!” Caitlyn was getting impatient.

“We won’t transfer hospitals,” Sonnet said colely. “Madam, you probably don’t know that not

everything can be resolved with money alone.” 。

She turned around and left after speaking.

“I’ll make you leave if you aren’t willing to do so!” Catilyn shouted out from behind her, “My dad is a huge shareholder of the company. Do you know what to do now?”

Sonnet turned around and laughed sarcastically, “Is that so? I’m really afraid of you!”

She pulled the door open, ignored Maxwell, who was standing right next to her, and walked out in a hurry.

She walked towards the ward. While passing by the nurses’ station, she heard a nurse picking up the call. “Mrs. York? Oh, she’s here. She’s here now. She should be in Mr. Stewart’s office right now. I’ll let her know in a while…”

Sonnet paused in her steps.

Mrs. Yale…Was Yale the last name of Mason’s wife?

A thought flashed across her mind. She turned around and headed to Mason’s office with quick strides. She dialled a number at the same time. “Is this the director’s office?”

Mason was buttering up to his wife in his office. “You’re the only one in my heart, darling. She was the one who wrapped her arms around me. Considering everything that had happened between us in the past, I felt guilty and couldn’t bring myself to speak to her harshly. That’s why you misunderstood me.”

“How dare you mention the past?! You felt guilty? Why did you feel guilty?! Would you have me as your wife if you didn’t break up with her after someone else slept with her?” Caitlyn glared at him.

“Yes, you’re right,” Mason said obediently. “Darling, I’m really curious. What kind of person did you get to sleep with her back then?”

Caitlyn scoffed lightly and said, “My cousin was the one who found that man. I don’t know anything about him. He must be some gangster from the streets.”

A hint of pity flashed across Mason’s gaze. It was a waste to let a gangster take her virginity. Back then, he should have convinced Sonnet to sleep with him sooner.

He was still thinking about it when a loud bang rang out. Someone had pushed the door open forcefully.

Sonnet walked in front of Caitlyn swiftly. She then asked her coldly, “Miss Yale, you were the one who got that plump woman to come over and accuse of being a mistress, right?”

Caitlyn was stunned. A pleased expression then appeared on her face. “Since you’re asking me about it right now, I’ll admit to it as well. I did. What can you do about it?”

“Alright.” Sonnet nodded and raised her hand to slap her across the face. “This is in return for how that plump woman slapped me across the face just now!”

Caitlyn instantly held her face and screamed out loud, “Ah! How dare you hit me?! Mason, beat her to death!”

Mason walked over and twisted Sonnet’s arm at once.

“What are all of you doing?!” A stern voice rang out.

Mason turned around. He backed off fearfully as soon as he saw the middle-aged man walking into the office. “Director Ziegler…”

Director Ziegler looked at Caitlyn and said, “You’re the deputy director of our hospital. What kind of behavior are you displaying right now?!”

Caitlyn clutched her face. Her neck stiffened as she remained silent.

Sonnet said coldly, “Director Ziegler, I have sufficient evidence with me. If you don’t want your hospital’s reputation to be tainted, get Mrs. Yale to apologize to me.”

She played the audio recording that she had made with her phone just now while speaking.

Director Ziegler’s expression darkened as he looked at Caitlyn and said, “Apologize to her!”

Caitlyn would not budge.

“Your father wanted you to come here for work, not to shame the hospital!” Director Ziegler’s tone was rather harsh.

Caitlyn walked in front of Sonnet unwillingly and said, “I’m sorry.”

“Excuse me, I don’t understand! Please speak more clearly.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gotten someone to come over and accuse you of something that you didn’t do.”

Sonnet waved her phone around and said, “I’ve recorded everything. Mrs. Yale, please act like a proper deputy director of this hospital!”

Caitlyn glared at her, but Sonnet ignored her. She nodded at Director Ziegler, turned around, and walked away.
