Chapter 10

It was Hayden Gunn!

Sonnet was rather shocked. She was about to greet him when Caitlyn pushed her to the side.

Caitlyn ran towards Hayden with an excited expression on her face. “Young Master Gunn!”

Hayden stopped walking and looked at her warily. “Who are you?”

“I’m Caitlyn Yale, the daughter of the president of Yale Corporation. We met at dinner before this. Have you forgotten about me?”

“Oh, it’s nice to meet you,” Hayden greeted her.

Caitlyn was overjoyed. Her face flushed red at once.

“Young Master Gunn, you’re here…”

Her smile froze before she could finish speaking.

That was because Hayden had turned around to look at Sonnet. He showed her an elegant and charming smile as he asked, “Sonnet, have you prepared everything?”

Sonnet smiled and said, “Mr. Gunn, you could’ve just sent an ambulance over. Why did you come here personally?”

Hayden shrugged and said, “My grandfather insisted that I come here personally after he heard that you wanted to transfer your father to our hospital. I had no choice but to come over.”

“Sorry for causing you so much trouble,” Sonnet said courteously.

After speaking, she turned around to face Caitlyn. “Miss Yale, didn’t you ask me which hospital I was planning to transfer my father to just now? Let me tell you now. I’ll be transferring my father to Westfield Hospital.”

She looked at the crowd surrounding them and raised her voice as she said, “Central Hospital has doctors with excellent medical skills, but it’s a pity that the doctors here are all extremely unethical. Miss Yale shames her patients for being poor and makes things difficult for them. The patients are already not feeling well, yet they still have to be subject to such treatment. We won’t stay here anymore!”

As soon as she finished speaking, everyone started gossiping among themselves.

“Someone from Westfield Hospital came over to fetch them. They’re obviously not that poor, but Miss Yale keeps making things hard for them. She’s wealthy, but what’s so great about being rich?!”

“I think we should transfer to another hospital as well. I can’t stand those doctors. I’d rather spend more money and stay in Westfield Hospital. I heard that they have excellent service over there!”

“That’s right. Do poor people like us not deserve to stay at your hospital? You need to give us an explanation!”

Everyone started making noise as they surrounded Caitlyn and the other few doctors.

Sonnet smiled in satisfaction after noticing the anxious expression on Caitlyn’s face. She then turned around and left.

On the way to Myles’ ward, she told Haydon, “Excuse me. I was acting tough just now. I hope you don’t mind.”

Hayden smiled and shook his head as he gave her a thumbs up. “You were able to retort against them even after how they humiliated you. You’re extremely resilient!”

Sonnet smiled bitterly and said, “Life makes one resilient.”

She had to be resilient. She had been looking after her bedridden father ever since she was twelve years old. After that, she gave birth to two children at a young age. She had been bullied by plenty of people in her life due to her circumstance.

She had once driven away a group of gangsters that wanted to take advantage of her with her bravado. She had also once driven off shameless people that wanted to take over her family’s property with her courage and persistence.

Her life motto was to treat others as they treated her, and to mess with others in return if they mess with her!

Myles was soon hospitalized at Westfield Hospital. He was allocated to a ward with two rooms and a living room. It looked just like a suite at a luxury hotel. The ward was well-equipped with all types of facilities.

In the evening, Myles’ general physician explained his treatment plan to Sonnet in detail, and all sorts of care and check-up procedures were arranged.

Each patient in Westfield Hospital would be looked after by their personal professional care worker. Not only were these care workers professional, but they were also extremely well-mannered. Therefore, Sonnet was not concerned about her father at all. She chatted with Myles for a while, then headed back when the sky started getting dark.

She bought some stuff and headed to Lindy’s house to visit the children. She recalled everything that had happened today while sitting on the bus. It felt like everything had been a dream.

After that, she thought about the ward conditions at Westfield Hospital and her heart trembled.

She wondered how much it cost to book a ward with such excellent conditions. She had troubled Hayden once, so she could not bring herself to complain about the hospitalization fees anymore. Besides, her father would also feel more comfortable living in such a ward.

It was time for her to start looking for a job. She had to earn more money to return the debt that she owed the hospital.

After arriving at Lindy’s place, Sonnet pressed the doorbell. Luna opened the door for her.

“Mom, brother has a nosebleed!” Luna had a panicked expression on her face. There were bloodstains on her fingers.

Sonnet put down everything in her hands and rushed to Jay’s room. She saw Sophia hugging Jaybie and holding ice to both sides of his nose.

Nevertheless, blood was still slowly trickling down from Jaybie’s nostrils.

Sonnet ran over to carry Jaybie in her arms. She then headed out.

“Mom, where are you taking me?” Jaybie held her neck and asked weakly.

“I’ll bring you to the hospital.”

“It’s useless, mom. It’s a normal symptom of my illness. It’ll get better after you hold some ice to my nose for a while.”

“The doctors will be able to stop your nosebleed when we get to the hospital.”

“Grandfather is about to undergo surgery. It’s way too costly. Let’s save as much as we can,” Jaybie said.

At that moment, Sonnet felt heartbroken.

She did not deserve to be Jay’s mother. He was such a sensible child!

It was all her fault for not being able to provide him with a luxurious life. He had no choice but to bear his suffering even when he was sick.

“It’s fine. I have enough money for this!” She insisted on bringing Jaybie to the hospital.

“There are way too many patients in the hospital. It’d be better if I didn’t go there often. Did you forget how I had a fever after going to the hospital before this?” Jaybie added.

Sophia, who was standing by the side, added, “I think he has stopped bleeding. It’s alright, what Jaybie said makes sense as well.”

Sonnet then turned around and placed Jaybie on the bed. She tucked him into his sheets carefully.

Jaybie raised his hand to gently caress her red-rimmed eyes. He cast a deep gaze at her and said, “Mom, you’re the best mother a kid can have. It’s not that you don’t have enough money to afford the treatment for my illness. There just isn’t a cure for my illness right now.”

The more he spoke that way, the more tears fell down Sonnet’s face.

Luna brought some water over. She wiped off the bloodstains on her brother’s face and used a wet towel to wipe off the tears on Sonnet’s face. “Mom, don’t worry. Although brother has a nosebleed, he has gotten stronger lately. Look after grandfather first. Once he has recovered, we can all look after brother!”

Sonnet nodded and wrapped her children in her arms…

Sonnet stayed at Lindy’s place till it was late at night. She finally left after putting her children to bed.

Before she left, Lindy held her back and said, “Jaybie can’t keep waiting around for the bone marrow bank to find a match for him. We need to think of other ways to find a match…”

She did not say anything else, but Sonner already knew what she was about to say.

She nodded and said, “I’ll look for someone with bone marrow that matches his in these few days.”

Jaybie was extremely unlucky. Lu, her, even Myles and the people closest to them had done a bone marrow test, but none of their bone marrows matched his.

The only hope left for Jay was for his biological father’s bone marrow to match his!

Ever since Jaybie fell sick, Sonnet kept trying to recall what had happened that night. However, she had no impression of that man at all.

Everything that she knew about the man was what Mason had told her. She had to find out more about him regardless of whether he had been telling her the truth or not.

After exiting the residential area, Sonnet called for a taxi and said, “Sir, please take me to Lux Club on Helio Road.”
