Prologue: It's time

Alexander POV;

"The day we waited for is today, Alpha. He is dead. Time to come back home." A text message from my uncle, Marcus, confirmed the death of my father which I already felt. His power passed down to me the moment he died. The tethers of all pack members snapped in place inside of me and the mind link opened, all of them welcoming me.

"Rob, wake up. It's time brother," I told Robert, my best friend, and brother, waking him up.

"Fucking no, are we under attack again? Don't these rogues sleep? Or is it vamps this time? I can't do it any longer Alex for fuck's sake," Robert groaned as he dragged himself out of bed. He thought that it was another attack on us. We were omegas for years and it was normal to be attacked by pack wolves, rogues, or vampires because we accidentally stepped on their territory.

"No, we won't be attacked anymore," I assured him as my claws slipped from my fingertips before I used one of them to cut the palm of my other hand. "Here, drink this," I told Robert offering him my bleeding hand.

"You're my brother and all but I'm not into this shit. I'm not a damn vampire and I'm certainly not sucking anything from you," Robert pulled a face when the scent of my blood hit his nose. "Drink this," I commanded and he followed my command immediately.

"Wait, what? How could you command me? We are omegas. Holy shit, Or you are the Alpha now? Did it finally happen?". I nodded before grabbing Robert's shoulder pressing on it motioning to him to kneel before me. He kneeled before me baring his neck.

"I, Alpha Alexander Adam Auroras, declare you Robert Valerio Moon, my beta and the second in command of the Northern Lights Pack of Sweden" I sighed as I saw his eyes glow fluorescent green and knew it worked. "Go get Tino," I asked him as I started packing. Robert went to the hidden room under the house to wake my son, Antonio, up. He wasn't my biological son so I had to initiate him the way I initiated any other pack member.

"What is it, dad? Are we running away again?" Tino asked half-asleep. I chuckled at his childish tone. He sounded like a toddler when he was in fact a sixteen-year-old young man.

"Come drink this," I told him pointing to my bleeding hand that I had to cut open again because it was healing rapidly now that I became the Alpha. Antonio looked at me in disbelief. He knew what this meant and didn't waste any time before drinking my blood. I motioned him to kneel and he obeyed.

"I, Alpha Alexander Adam Auroras, declare you Antonio Erik Auroras, a member of the Northern Lights Pack," I said before I felt his teether to me snap in please by the pack link. I wished there was a way to make him my rightful heir but he wasn't my son by blood, he would have to fight me for it when the time comes.

"Now let's go home," I told them.

River POV;

'Don't you dare mess this up, Riv,' I thought to myself as I passed through the entry door to the Emergency Room of the port hospital. It wasn't the best hospital of the country but it was the only one near that offered me a training spot at the ER department. It was a dream coming true. One year and I would be called an ER doctor as I always dreamed. Only one year more to go.

Well, one year seemed to be too long. Maybe it would get easier with nice colleagues, I thought to myself.

"You are the trainee?" A middle-aged nurse asked me in a bored tone. Her name badge read Sophia, the head nurse. Forget what I said about nice colleagues. This is going to be a very long year.

"Yes, I am. River Forsberg, nice to meet you," I said offering her my hand. She dismissed my hand and looked at her desk searching for something.

"Here is your pager. We call anytime, you run, doesn't matter if you are showering, eating, dying, we don't care," I took the pager and hung it on my backpack before registering what she said to me. Sure she didn't mean it, yes?

"Here is your passage card. Keep an eye on it if you care about your degree anyway. Your supervisor is on his way. Welcome to the pit," she said before leaving me awkwardly at the reception. Did she just call it the pit? Is this a grave? This feels like it's going to be my last home indeed.
