Chapter 1

On my birthday, I went to a gathering and came home ridiculously drunk. That was when my mother gave me a call.

“Your present is in your room. Open it yourself.”

Since she sounded so straightforward, I thought that I could finally get my hands on the newest handbag release. The one that I always wanted.

To my surprise, what I saw was a teenage boy with a bath towel wrapped around his waist. He was just lying on my bed quietly.

The bath towel he had around his waist was my small pink towel. It could either be because he was too tall or that my towel was too small, but his lower body was barely covered.

I swallowed hard.

“Mum… Are you… Are you serious? How much was it?” My mother must have been badly influenced by her friends from square dancing.

“As long as my daughter wants it, I’ll get it for you no matter the costs.”

I was utterly speechless.

Not long ago, she was pestering me to go on blind dates almost every day. After multiple failures, I blurted, “God, please grant me a boyfriend and I’ll promise to be vegan for the rest of my life.”

Did my mother take those words seriously?

“Mum, this isn’t right…”

“What are you so embarrassed about? Just take it since I gave it to you.”

I looked towards the teenage boy once again and I felt a tingle running down my spine. However, I was also reminded of how single I was during the class reunion today. In the end, I decided… to just take him.
