Chapter 5: Sign From Above

“You naughty woman,” said Joshua, edging closely to her.

Emily put her head down. She didn’t want to see their affection for each other. Now that the woman he loves is back, there is really nothing she could do. There is nothing stopping Joshua. For he loves this woman more than his life. Even their time during high school, no matter how many times she cheated on him, he will always forgive her and go back to her. He always does. She was the one whom he never forgotten.

Emily knows that no matter how she stick by his side, he will never see her now. Even if she takes away all his worries, wipe away his sweat when he is sick, he will never realize her. He will never see her love for him.

“See how they much love each other?” sneered Vicky.

Emily didn’t know what to say. She was at wit’s end.

“Even after all these years their affections for one another is still as strong as ever.”

Emily’s tears started dripping down uncontrollably. Her heart was aching painfully. Her heart was shattering before her. She was being torn pieces by pieces. The sorrow in her heart is gripping her dying soul. She could feel herself slowly dying on the inside.

“That’s right, now that Megan is back don’t think that you will continue to stay here in our house,” said Vicky. She grabbed hold of Emily’s arm. “You better just signed the divorce paper quietly.” She pushed Emily backward.

Emily fell onto the ground injuring her broken wrist even more. “Ouch,” she groaned.

Joshua and Megan stopped looking at each other after they heard Emily’s painful cry.

Megan sneered at Emily and said, “Humph. You should leave here as soon as possible. Joshua and I got lots of catching up to do.”

Emily couldn’t believe that he was going to throw her out like this. Their three years of marriage meant nothing to him.

But now that his lover is back, he is crueler to her than before. Their three years of marriage mean little to him. She meant nothing to him.

Emily chuckled at her stupidity. This is finally her wake up call. For this is too much for her aching heart to handle. It’s impossible for her not to get jealous. Harder for her to witness their love.

Today is the day. She will divorce him. She will do as he asked. She will do what’s best for them. It’s finally time to let everything go.

For she refused to continue on living a life like this. Refused to live in a cold and distant relationship. She refused to live on where she can’t win her husband’s love. She refuses to continue living in someone else’s shadow. She is better than Megan in many ways, that she knows.

“Hell, I’m better than all these other women,” she thought.

“I suggest you get going on signing the divorce paper, unless you want to see us really in action,” said Joshua.

“Oh, Joshua, I can’t wait to make love to you,” said Megan, tugging onto his belt.

“Shh. Mother is right there.”

Vicky chuckled. “You kids can have fun after we finalized everything with this bitch.”

“Yes, you better get going after your done signing,” said Joshua.  “Leave your ass and never come back.”

“Yeah. Get out of here before Joshua personally throw you out himself,” said Vicky.

“You’re never going to get any of my family’s fortune,” said Joshua.

“Why would I want all of that when I already have it all. This home, your business, your little fortune, and that small ounce of fame of yours. It’s nothing compared to what I have at all,” thought Emily.

Going against her grandfather and her uncle’s advice was the biggest mistake she ever made. Turning her back on them when they only warned her of his cruel demeanor. But she didn’t listen. She didn’t listen to them even when they heed her not to marry him. She still went and did it. Now she is living in regret. Every words they said came true. That he wouldn’t love her.

“Humph! Enough procrastinating! Hurry up and signed the divorce paperwork.”

“I will return all of this back to you,” thought Emily. “After tonight, you won’t see me anymore Joshua.”

Emily slowly got up. She went to the table and sat down. She signed her name on every single piece of document that needed her signature. She didn’t say anything as Butler Shawn flipped through the pages explaining what they all were.

Joshua came and sat down across from Emily.

At the end of the document Emily was scribbling some words down on the document.

Joshua frowned as to what she wanted from him.

Emily was writing away.

“Damn it, I even wrote that she is to not take anything from me. The ten thousand she took from me every month is already the compensation of our marriage. That’s including her help around the house and services to the MacClare’s family. She gets more than what a normal maid makes. What more does she want?” he thought. He clenches his fist tightly. “I cannot afford any more than what she have already taken already,” he continued thinking.

Butler Shawn read it and handed it over to Joshua.

Joshu it and read it. On it, Emily wrote that she would not legally dispute any of Joshua’s wealth or fortune in the future. All of his money will solely belong to him.

Joshua was surprised. He thought she would be stealing more from him, but instead she wrote that she wanted nothing from him. He frowned as to what she was trying to do. Then he asked, “What trick are you up to now?”

“Nothing. I came here with nothing, and I will leave with nothing,” said Emily, not looking at him.

“That’s right, I won’t take anything of yours. I have plenty of assets on the side. You’re only one tenth of what I think is worthy of valuable,” she thought.

“Good. At least you know that,” scoffed Joshua. He continued reading what she wrote. He frowned at her next sentences.

“I, Emily Wats will pay back the money I accidentally borrowed from Joshua MacClare from the past three years. Everything will be paid back in full.” Signed Emily Wats.

Joshua looked up at her and sighed. He said, “Don’t think that you can use that money you took from me as a reason to come see me.”

“Pfft,” scoffed Emily. “I would never want to see you in the future. It’s you who will be begging to see me,” she thought. “I’m going to make sure of it.”

“What does that mean?” asked Joshua, putting the paper down.

“What?” asked Emily, looking at him firmly.

For the first time in three years Joshua is now seeing her blue eyes shimmering with fire in them.

Joshua thought it was strange for he had never seen Emily with this much self-confidence before. “What does that “pfft” mean.”

“Nothing,” answered Emily, coldly.

“Very well.”

Butler Shawn gave Emily a copy and Joshua the originals.

Emily got up and walked out the door.

Joshua frowned as Emily didn’t say anything to him. She didn’t even look back at him.

Bump-Bump-Bump. His heart goes. Something was piercing his heart. He was aching, bleeding. He was slowly losing his breath.

Emily walked to the door and opened the door. She looked outside at the stormy weather. It was raining heavily. It nearly poured like a full shower. “Great on the day of my divorce is also the day I get wet on,” thought Emily. “Maybe this is a sign for me. Maybe it’s a sign from the good angels above that it’s time I move on,” she continued to think.

Joshua frowned as it was raining.

“Humph! Get going,” said Vicky.

“Yeah, get lost,” said Megan.

Emily remained still at the door.

“It’s getting cold,” said Vicky, shaking at the cold breeze.

Joshua seeing her mother shivering said, “Hurry out the door.” His voice was cold and cool.

Emily turned to look at Joshua. She said, “Joshua, one of these days you’re going to regret this.”

Joshua scoffed as if he didn’t believe her words. “How would I regret someone like you,” he thought.  “You’re an unfaithful woman. You not only betrayed me once, but multiple times. You were with five different men. On different occasions. Sometimes with two of them maybe even all five of them at once, who knows. And I won’t accept that kind of behavior as my wife,” he continued thinking.

Emily looked at Vicky and said, “One day you’ll plead me to come back.”

“Ha! If that day ever comes, I will publicly apologize to you and call you my daughter-in-law, said Vicky.

“You will beg me.”

Vicky frowned at Emily’s words. She sounded so confident than the Emily she once knew. This Emily was much stronger than the Emily she had known for the past three years. Something was off. Something was wrong. Whatever it was, she didn’t like it.

Emily smiled at her and walked outside to the rain.

“What was that?” questioned Vicky, seeing Emily smiling at her. For three years that Emily had been with them, never once had Vicky seen her smile. Now that she had exited the MacClare’s household, she had a beautiful and almost wicked smile on her. It sent chills down her spine. Nearly making her lose balance.

Emily turned back around once more and looked at Joshua. She said, “Joshua, one day when you look for me, I won’t be there anymore. The one you see will be someone who you could never touch, feel, or love ever again.”

“Get lost!” shouted Megan.

“You will miss me,” said Emily, to Joshua. For one last time, Emily smiled at him.

Joshua, seeing Emily beautiful smile made his heart throbbed painfully. He could feel aching sadness echoing throughout his heart.

BOOM! The lightning struck.

Something was scorching through his body. His body was burning at the sight of her leaving him. He started to become numb. He was becoming like a zombie. There was no longer any feelings or emotions left inside of him. He was becoming empty.

Emily threw the documents up into the air and let it swirl around her. The rain was pattering on them. She ran out the gate of the MacClare’s household.

Aruthors's NOTE: Emily... Those papers are of value. You just gave Joshua the upper hand... but then that's all in the later chapters...
