Prologue: Strange Nights

Darkness, that's all that surrounded me. Little did I know that this darkness would follow me like a shadow once it sunk its claws deep within me, binding us together for the rest of my existence.

Screams ripped through the air. My father yelled at my brother to get the shotgun while one of the creatures mercilessly attacked him, mixed with my father's screams I could hear my mother pleading with the creatures for them not to hurt us.

I peeped from behind the couch, my heart was pounding in my ribcage, terrified that they would see me and I would be next. I saw one of them with their hands wrapped around my mother's throat.

Pointy fangs protruded from the creature's mouth and it latched its fangs on the side of her neck breaking the skin and draining the life out of her. My mother's head fell lifelessly to the side as her eyes rolled back in her head and then I realized it wasn't my mother... it was me.

The creature looked up at me his eyes blood red and I screamed in horror for I had never seen a creature of this manner before. He looked like he came from hell and the havoc he reeked on the living was evidence of that.

Through the sounds of my own hyperventilating, I heard a voice in the back of my head telling me to run but instead I stood and walked towards the creature. I couldn't understand why when I was terrified.

The creature stuck his hand out to me. My little heart felt like it was going to explode. I reached for his hand with my shakey one.

"May!" I heard Eleanora, Sapphire, and Hera yell at the same time. My eyes opened and I sat up in my bed to find I was drenched in a cold sweat.

My door burst open and there the woman who took care of me for the last ten years of my life stood. They all came rushing towards me engulfing me in a hug. "You okay now. It was just a dream." Eleanora kissed my forehead.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Sweetheart you were screaming in your sleep again," Hera brushed my hair back.

"I don't think it's a good idea for her to go," Sapphire hugged me tighter. "She's our baby. She's not going and that's final."

"What is all the yelling about?" Creed appeared by the door. I looked at him and he looked away unable to meet my gaze.

"Creed, say something," Eleanora seethed and he didn't look at her either. His jaw clenched and he turned on his heel, walking away. "Take care of her," she told Hera and Sapphire, "I'll be back soon, my little warrior," Eleanora gave my hand a gentle squeeze before moving to go after Creed.
