Chapter 28

Darkness was consuming, deceitful and blinding. "Where am I?" I thought aloud. The sound of my shoes kept me company, from the soundless madness. "Hello?"

I began to panic this was becoming too weird. I took off running but where was I going to run to? I was hoping I'd hit something eventually running in a straight line. There would have to be a wall, a tree, or anything.

But running was pointless. There was no end and no beginning to the darkness.

The sound of a child giggling git my head to snap up again. "Hello" I called after the child.

"Marco," I heard the child whisper and I swallowed hard at the familiarity in his voice. "Marco," he called again stunning me into silence.

"Jake?" The name fell out of my mouth instantly. "is that really you?"

"No, that's not how you play," he said walking out of the darkness. "I say Marco and you say polo, May."

"You're alive," I smiled and he looked down at the ground. "But where are we? How can I see you but nothing else?"
