Chapter 25

When I stepped onto the Brookburgh campus again, I felt different. I felt the way I should have felt on my first day, optimistic and ready to face any academic challenge.

Even first semester exams.

I spent a week cramming everything I could into my head and when the time came I sat for my finals with Alex and Gina by my side. I had to admit it felt strange being in a lecture room.

I barely saw Levi since we got back from Arizona and I thought he was giving me space to focus on my exams, but it had been two days after my exams, and still no sign of him.

I was starting to think he left the school and I didn't want to ask Hannah because if he did I wouldn't know what to do next.

I sat on my bed holding the heart-shaped rock he gave me. The memory of it all felt so distant but every time I closed my eyes and thought of every kiss we shared it was like I could feel it.

I could grasp it and hold onto it but there was only so far a memory could sustain happiness and I had to pray ever
