Chapter 10: Cruel Fate

I felt like a deer in headlights, rooted to the spot.

It wasn't Raven. It wasn't Raven, I told myself repeatedly.

I searched her face, my eyes hooded as I took in the sword Blue held in her hands.

Her grip was loose and awkward on the hilt of the sword, and I knew instinctively that she could not fathom the real enormity of what she'd just done.

She'd unsheathed the sword.

She swiveled around, looking for any more shadow demons. But they had all fled.

The power in Raven's sword was unfathomable. It was a spelled sword.

Only Raven could fight with it, drawing out her energy and linking her soul to the sword.

And she had drawn it out it.

"They all ran away. They've never done that before."

I blinked. "Yes." I stared deep into her blue eyes, the one thing that made her different from Raven.

My Raven had had amber eyes, the color of sunset. I'd often seen a reflection of me deep in those eyes as we laughed together, fought together, and made love.
