Maika watched her father as he studied the map on the wall before him. He was lost in thoughts as he traced his fingers up and down, circling towns and marking off rivers. She wondered what he was doing but she didn’t bother asking. He was not going to live long enough to conquer any of the places he was marking so it was pointless asking.

Maisey noticed her curious glance and he smiled at her.

“My darling,” He said. “All these places you see would soon be ours.”

Maika nodded and smiled knowingly. If there was one thing she liked about the man, it was his confidence and ambition. If only he could channel it into something better, something more meaningful and worthy. But no, he only cared about power. He only cared about ruling the realm, and his obsession with ruling the realm was going to be his biggest undoing.
