What I heard shocked me to the core. It's like I was struck by a thunderbolt; every corner of my system is experiencing waves of electricity.
"I trust you, mother," Vivian said."Once you go upstairs, I can't help you anymore. You're on your own, and you have to do well or else everything that I did will be futile. You understand, dear?" Aunt Violet sounds scarier than ever.An automatic answer came out of my sister's mouth. "Yes, mother.""Great!" Aunt said, satisfied. "This is our greatest shot to change our lives forever, Vivian. Your father's pack is nice, but we deserve more. We need power for us to climb to the top, and your engagement with Archer Sinclair's going to give that to us.""I understand, mother. I will try to do my best," Vivian assured her mother."Don't just try, dear. Do it. Do whatever it takes."Ever since my father brought Aunt Violet home after my mother died, I knew she was different. Growing up with her ways, I could say that she always craves more. She always pushes Father to form a peaceful alliance with different packs for our pack to gain connections, but it still shakes me that her ambition and hunger for power will lead to this. This is another level. It's the heir to the Alpha throne, which is what we're talking about."I'll do whatever it takes, mother."Of course, my sister will. The only thing that she hates in this world, aside from me, is disappointing her mother and showing everybody that she is a failure. She always wants to prove that she's not like me and that she's better."It's about time," my aunt said."Where is it? Can I bring the bottle just to make sure?" Vivian asked. For a moment, everything went silent. They stopped speaking, and there was no noise that could be heard in the place where I could hear my heart, like it was just beating right next to my ears."My goodness!" My aunt's voice was laced with panic. "Where did I put it?"I shouldn't be here.I stepped back so I could turn and walk away before they could sense that I was here and that somebody had heard their whole conversation. However, I bumped into a metal object, which created a loud thud that echoed in the hallway that we are in.I covered my mouth with the palms of my hands."Who's there?" My aunt asked."Somebody heard us! Oh gosh! Somebody knew—""Silence, dear. Do not speak a word," my aunt warned my sister after cutting her off."I don't recognize the smell. It must be somebody we don't know," she added.I thank the heavens that I changed the scent of the potion that I was wearing to smell like a werewolf.I heard footsteps coming in my direction, so I immediately ran towards the end of the lengthy and dusky hallway. Then I found a huge staircase that led upstairs. I had no choice but to run on it, so my aunt couldn't catch me.However, I stopped when I got distracted by a tiny vial with a suspicious red liquid on it. It was sparking, so it really caught my eye as I was climbing the stairs."What is this?" I asked myself. "Somebody must've dropped it."Remembering that I have no time to idle around, I slipped it into the tiny pocket of my dress, and it fitted there well.I'm huffing from trying to catch and stabilize my breath as I stop running now that I am safe inside a room. I also locked the door knob, so if anybody tries to enter, they can't."There's nobody here, right?" I said to the air.The room is probably three or four times larger and fancier than my room. Shades of black, white, and silver are the colors that are popping on the walls of the room.It looks simple, yet very masculine."Excuse me? Hello?" I called again just to make sure that nobody was inside but me.They're all busy downstairs, so whoever owns this room might be having fun at the ball right now.Out of curiosity, I walked towards the center of the room. There is no hint of who might own this room."Who are you?" A voice said, which sounded like a man.I almost jumped from where I was standing when I heard it. Then I froze when I realized that I was not alone in this room.I looked around and figured out that the man was standing near the huge window that I couldn't see well because of the wall that was dividing the two of us."Oh—" I trailed off. "I'm sorry for barging in like this into your room. I swear, I meant no harm or whatever. I was just...uh... I got lost.""You got lost and somehow found yourself inside the last room of this corridor?" he questioned.I closed my eyes. I want to smack myself for giving him the lamest excuse that I could ever think of.Now, I really do sound and look like I have ill intentions and am up to no good."I'm sorry, I'll just go out. I'm just hiding from somebody, and I thought I could hide here," I honestly told whoever it is I'm speaking to.I moved my feet and turned around."Stop," he commanded.Again, I froze on my feet for a moment. I gathered myself and stepped again. I may be the one to barge in, but I don't know who I am talking to, so I figured it would be simple and easier for me to get out before everything gets complicated.I continued to walk."I said stop, Leila," he said with more conviction. When I realized whose voice that was, I nearly fell to my knees."I fancy seeing you again, Leila Pierce," he said. "I told you I'd see you at the ball, didn't I?" Archer Sinclair voiced out.I walked towards the side of the wall to see if I was right with my suspicion, and as soon as I saw the broad and muscular back of Archer Sinclair, I proved myself right. There he is, facing the window with his back. He has no upper-body clothes, so they are on full display. And then he turned around to face me with a smirk on his lips. I caught a glimpse of his hard chest and bumpy biceps, along with his small waist."Leila," he called me.I gulped and looked away. I don't think it's appropriate for me to be here in the same room with just the two of us and, moreover, to be looking at him right now when he's in this state."Greetings, Lord Archer. I curtsied at him as my eyes were still wondering around the room but never on him."Finally, you're here," he said."Yes, Lord Archer," I said, although I badly want to say that I shouldn't really be here and my mind is screaming at me that I should go out."Do you know how disappointed I was when I sent the grandest limousine to your mano
Archer Sinclair is kissing me.That thought alone makes me spiral.Archer's hand cupped my face, and he deepened our kiss. His other hand let go of my arms, and it snaked to my waist, and then he pulled me closer to his body so that I could feel his solid chest against mine. For a moment, he lets go of my lips, and we're both drunk on each other's taste. We're both panting and catching our breath as our eyes never let go of each other. With Archer's disheveled hair and his half-closed eyes, he looks freaking unreal. His face looks like it was carved by the gods.I get it now. I see why all the girls want him.He brushed his thumb on my cheeks. "God, Leila.""Shouldn't you be on the ball?" I asked. "Is it alright that you're here?""I don't care about them, Leila. You're here with me. It's all that matters," he whispered in my ear."But you have to find your Luna downstairs," I said to him.Archer smiled at me and pecked at my lips. "I already found her."My heart skipped a beat.I don
"I don't know what you're talking about, Vivian," I said to her.I glanced at Aunt Violet, and I knew that I had already gotten her attention. She's already analyzing me with her eyes."Of course you wouldn't know because you're a wolf—less so, you couldn't smell what I'm smelling," she defended."It's impossible, Vivian. I was with Samantha, and I also bumped into Edmund. You're probably smelling him on me," I said."I can't be wrong, Leila!" she insisted, and then she looked at her mother like she was asking for backup. "Mother, I'm not lying. I really smell Lord Archer in her."Aunt Violet went from just angry mode to beast mode real quick."I smell it, Leila," she grimly informed me.Just like that, I wished for my body to be eaten by the ground again. I know that when it's against the two of them, there is only a slim chance that I will win the argument. Now, I don't see any chance at all. They both took me to my father's library, and they made me sit on his chair while they were
Archer Sinclair's POVThe other side of my bed feels cold, but my body feels oddly warm despite the fact that I am wearing absolutely nothing from head to toe under my white blanket. My eyes travelled across the room, and nothing changed much except for the scent that was not mine on my sheets.Somebody's been here aside from me, and I couldn't remember anything aside from gulping down a glass of wine last night that made me extremely dizzy.A knock on my door interrupted my train of thought, but my body still wasn't moving.I closed my eyes, and there, blurred images flashed into my mind, and I could also feel my whole body heating up. My mind is drawing up images of a girl here in my bed with me."Lord Archer," somebody called from the outside."Come in," I permitted.Reagan, one of the sentinels that I supervise, entered my room. He stopped, stood just below my bed, and then faced me."Lord Archer, the Alpha King wishes to see you," he informed. "He's at the meeting room, and he ca
Archer Sinclair's POV"That's it?" I asked the maid for the last time. "I need any information that you might have noticed."She sighed, and her shoulders dropped even more. "I am sorry, Lord Archer. She sneaked out really fast, but I know that she was wearing a yellow dress."A yellow dress."Alright," I said. "Go."The maid curtsied to me and rushed her way outside my door. The poor helper was trembling with my warning, which sounded like a threat.I looked at Reagan and commanded, "Get Amiel and Damian. We're going to the Pierces."His eyes went wide again. "Are you sure?"I eyed him. "When did I ever joke about something like this?""Right." Reagan pressed his lips together. "What about Alpha King? He was looking for you.""That is not what's important for now. When we arrive back, I'll give him what he wants," I declared with a sure tone in my voice. On my left was Reagan, and on the other side were the twins, Amiel and Damian, while I sat on the comfortable sofa as we waited for
My feet are aching. My lips are cracked and very dry.My stomach is growling with emptiness. And above all, I no longer have a home where I can return to when I am drained to the extreme like this. I don't know how long I'm walking, and I have no exact destination. I am looking for a cave or, if I am lucky, an empty or abandoned house that I could stay in. My money is not enough for me to afford to rent a place and buy food on top of all that.I have to be frugal and smart. My money could only last me a few days if I spent it carelessly.I stopped when I heard water running. I followed where the sound was coming from, and I found a clean and clear river.I immediately scrunched down and cupped water using my hands and drank to my heart's content. Now, I am fighting the urge to dive and give myself a nice, cool bath."Hey," I heard somebody call out. "You shouldn't be here, miss!"I looked at my back and found not a man but a werewolf towering over me.My whole body froze."Wh- what...
Every minute that passes, the footsteps become louder and clearer.Careful not to create any unnecessary noise, I tiptoed and hid behind a mango tree's trunk and held my breath again while silently praying that hopefully they wouldn't find me here, whatever it was. When I tried to sneak in a glance, my eyes found a red glare. Not just one, but plenty of them, and they are all growling at me.They want my flesh."Please... please just let me go. I am not worthy to be your prey, I swear to all of you," I said. They growled at me. I saw their sharp fangs that could pierce my skin any minute now. Both of my hands covered my ears as I heard a loud screeching noise that didn't seem to stop. I bit my lips to compose myself and for me to stay calm, but it was followed by a great deal of physical pain.My eyes are still closed as I bear the pain, and tears started rolling down my cheeks. Is my life going to end like this?I felt like my body was ripping into bits and pieces, but I couldn't do
I opened my eyes, but I immediately closed them again to adjust to the dazzling light. I tried to feel my surroundings and tried to sense if I was in danger."I am sorry. How long have I been sleeping here?" I asked the lady in front of me."Sleeping?" she said, like she couldn't believe what she said. "Girl, you've been passed out since five days ago!"I almost gagged on the information."My brother brought you here bleeding and really bruised. You know, I thought you were dead because if any other werewolves experienced what you did, I'm sure they're not breathing anymore," she told me.I looked down at my body, and I could see the violet spots on it. I also have bandages wrapped around me. There is one on my head, on my leg, and on my arms, and when I tried to move it, she panicked."Uh uh, don't move a muscle! Your bone there is still doing its best to heal. You wouldn't want to disrupt it, girl!" she warned me, and that made me nervous too.Oh right. I remember that I was already
