Hayley
"I can't believe you did the unthinkable! Sleeping with your soon to be ex husband?" Amber screeched through the phone.
When she says it like that, it was really bad.
"I know I messed up big time. But you don't have to shout that loud, I'm at work."
"Sorry Hayley but you should have known better." She chastised me. Amber was Anti Kyle now. She hardly even said his name.
"Yeah I should have. I don't know what got into me." I whined dropping my head on my desk.
"You know what got into you. Too much alcohol." I knew she wasn't still happy with me.
That was true, I could hardly hold my alcohol. Got drunk easily so that why I always drink with friends.
"Yeah I should have called you to come get me." I apologized.
"You really need to be careful. What if a stranger had taken advantage of you? Like a creepy old nasty man or a serial killer? And then I will get to hear from the news that my best friend was murdered." Okay, Amber had a very over active imagination and I was already regretting why I told her everything.
"I am sorry. But Kyle was there. So nothing like that happened." I shuddered at the thought of some stranger forcing himself on me. I really needed to be cautious.
"Alright then. So how many times have you daydreamed about your night with Kyle?"
"Oh my gosh Amber. Please let me off the hook." I pleaded groaning in embarrassment and guilt.
Yeah I have done that numerous times. The way Kyle kissed me like his life depended on it, the way he took me fast and later more gently. How did I even remember most of the things we did?
I flushed in instant arousal.
"You have! You bad bitch! You are even doing it now." She laughed at me. I blushed furiously.
"Stop it. It doesn't mean anything. It was a silly mistake I made at a point of vulnerability." I assured myself.
"Okay, when are you going to clear up the air with him?" I kept quiet at that.
"So you are not going to talk with him?"
"No." I replied quietly.
"Hayley! Don't tell me you are serious."
"Say it." I sighed.
"Say what?"
"I know what you are thinking. That I am a freaking coward." Thankfully, I was at the office so neither of the twins was around to berate me for swearing.
I shook my head, the amount of money that has gone into the swear jar was enough capital to start a mini business. Courtesy of their favorite uncle Joe, my younger twin brother and only sibling.
Nah, just kidding. But it was almost enough.
"Well you will be a coward if you ignore this and not talk it out with him." She advised dragging out her words.
"Yeah for now." That would be my plan, pretend that it never happened till I was ready to talk about it.
"Okay at least you got something out of it." Her tone was sly.
"What?" I knew it was going to be something silly.
"You scratched your itch." She replied in a sing song manner.
"Seriously Amber." I had been on an unwilling dey spell after my separation with Kyle.
"Okay girl, just know that I've got your back and support you with whatever decision you make." She was serious now.
"And one more thing before I forget. Please do not tell Joe about this." Joe would definitely lose his cool if he hears about this.
"You think I will blab to Joe about this? Do you even know me?" She sounded offended and hurt.
"You know I didn't mean it like that. I am just being extra careful." I placated her.
"Okay. Just so you know I would never tell him." Even if she did, it wouldn't be intentional. Joe really brings out the worst in Amber.
"Thanks Amber but I have to go now." I saw Mary one of my junior colleagues through the transparent door of my office.
"Okay update me further when you finally have the balls to talk to Kyle." I rolled my eyes ending the call.
"Come in." Mary entered closing the door behind her calmly.
"Good afternoon ma'am. Here are the photographs that you requested for." She handed them to me.
I loved my job no matter how tedious and overwhelming it could be sometimes. I worked as interior decor designer and was a junior partner with the firm I was under.
It has taken me me ten years of grit, sweat and hard work to get here.
"When is the deadline?" I flipped through the photographs filled with pride looking at the different decors created by our top interior designers. This was going to be a hard decision.
"Next week Thursday ma'am."
"Okay, Mary you can go now." That was enough time to select the right one that will be featured on GQ's Decor front page.
I raised my head to see Mary still standing there as if expecting something.
"Do you need anything?" I asked her watching as an unknown emotion flashed through her face.
"Not really ma'am, but there is someone looking for you." She sounded tense.
"Really? Does this person have an appointment?"
"That's the problem ma'am. She doesn't have an appointment but claims she wants to see you for a personal reason." I frowned taking in her words.
"For a personal reason?"
"Yes ma'am." Mary nodded.
"Send her in." Mary let out a relieved sign and the left the office.
It might be one of those impossible clients who was possibly an elite.
And I couldn't have imagined right. It was worse, far worse.
"Simone?" I stood up from my chair and watched stiffly as she entered my office.
"Hello Hayley."
"What are you doing here?" I snapped with annoyance. The audacity for her to show her face here.
"I won't take much of your time."
Folding my arms, I looked at her with barely veiled resentment.
Happy that she didn't take a seat else I would definitely be throwing that chair away after her departure. That was how much I hated her and hate was a very strong word.
"Stay away from my man. Kyle doesn't want you anymore, he never wanted to be with you. He left you for me remember? And I would be stupid to let you come in between us after years of being separated."
Kyle dated Simone for 12 years but ended up marrying me when he was 32. After making a deal with his parents that his inheritance will be his after getting me pregnant after one year of marriage.
"What?" I reared back, too shocked to confirm if this was a joke. I should have known she was here to cause trouble.
"On for Chris sakes! Drop the act. You think I don't know? Kyle told me everything. How you shamelessly threw yourself at him and forced him to sleep with you." She snarked.
"Excuse me?" Now just did Kyle tell her? We were both willing participants. Does Kyle even know she is here embarrassing herself?
"I will not excuse you Hayley! You will not be excused! You whore! Home breaker!" Simone accused shrieking at me.
Thank God that my office was a little isolated from the others.
I couldn't hold it anymore. I burst into angry laughter.
"Whore? Home breaker? How ironic of you to call me that? When was it ever stated that it was a crime to sleep with my own husband? If anyone is the slut, it is you." I retorted obviously done with her bullshit. I was the other woman at some point but we are married.
"Kyle is no longer your husband. Or did you forget you are going to get divorced? I am finally going to marry him when that happens. A pity your kids won't be attending the wedding." She smirked at the slight intake of breath I released.
They were getting married? Just six months..
I took a deep breath. I won't let this woman poison my thoughts.
"Ams I would have it that way." Kyle haven't made any move to introduce Simone to the kids. And I was extremely thankful for that.
"I won't warn you again this calmly. Let Kyle be, we don't need anymore trouble for you."
"One more thing Simone, tell Kyle to bring it on
. I will see you both in court."
Simone stormed out without a retort jamming the door hard.
HayleyAnd now I was on my way to my monthly lunch with Kyle's mom. I call her Mrs Banes, though she insists I call her mother or by her first name Kate.Strolling inside the restaurant that we always used for our meeting.Kate stood up when she saw me, I smiled genuinely. I loved spending time with Kate, she was just so bubbly compared to her husband. Henry was cool, but he was a grump, barely tolerated people but he genuinely loves his wife."How are you Hayley?" She asked leaning in to air kiss my cheeks."I am good. How are you doing?" I replied dropping my bag on the table before taking a seat."I've never been better. I recently gained a membership at a new gym." She said excited. "What? What happened to your membership at your previous gym?" I saw the profile of the waitress already bringing up our orders."My membership expired and I think one of the gym instructors has a crush on me." Her nose wrinkled "Well good call." I laughed at that. Kate was in her sixties but she look
HayleyAnd I couldn't be more grateful that today was Friday, #TGIF. Like for real, this week has been pretty crazy for me. Sleeping with Kyle, confronted by Simone and dinner with his mom? Super crazy. And now I was here chilling at a bar but not without Amber. And I had someone watching the kids. Tammy was a sweet teenage girl who lived not too far from out house."Why can't men just take a hint?" She moaned for the nth time downing a third margarita. The male bartender chuckled pouring us new sets of drinks."I would slow down on those drinks if I were you." I advised Amber who was pouting terribly."You would say that because you weren't the one left standing at her porch like a fool. Waiting for a man to kiss her."I couldn't help myself, I burst into laughter until I was silenced by a pointed glare from Amber."I am sorry I can't help it. It's just so funny." I apologized taking a sip from my glass."And what's so funny?" She questioned unsmiling. And I had to comport myself ag
HayleyThe sound of a car passing broke up the trance.I looked down putting an end to the serious eye contact going between us."Where you going to go home with him?" Kyle asked quietly."What?" I reared back in shock. The audacity for him to ask me such a question!"You heard me Hayley." His body was tense and his jaw clenched tight."I don't see how that is any of your business. You lost the right to ask me any question of that magnitude." I tapped my fingers against his hard chest angrily."In case you forgot, you are still my wife and mother of my children." He gritted out.I gasped in disbelief. His wife? This man was delusional."I can't do this now." I turned away from him."Get in the car, I'm taking you home. And this time don't test my patience or else you will regret it." He swore after me as I stomped to his stupid vehicle. This was going to be a long drive. The air in the car was too stifling and the awkward silence was getting to me. I pressed myself far against my sea
Hayley "No way." I breathed out, shocked at the bomb that Amber had just dropped on me. "Yes way. This was the reaction I was dreading when I thought of telling you." She winced at the still befuddled expression on my face."Like seriously Amber. Dating the ex husband of your client?" I questioned in disbelief.Amber was a divorce attorney and apparently she just told me that her mysterious British man was one of her client's ex husband."I know. At least, they are divorced." She shrugged suggestively."Yeah it could be worse. I probably need something stronger after hearing all this." But sadly we were at a coffee house and on my lunch break."And we haven't gotten really intimate." She looked guilty. Of course, she knew that I was angry with her for keeping such a from me."Just save it Amber. I am your friend, your best friend at that and I will not sugarcoat anything for you." I paused to take a deep breath before going into details."I know." "This is a very terrible idea." I
HayleyI paused working on my new design. This was terrible. How could I handle this situation? The potential clients had requested a meeting at L'Baroque but with my husband in attendance.Should I be truthful and cancel the meeting or should I... No I can't think of doing that.I can't ask Kyle to come with me. I can't do that it rather my pride won't let me do it. Neither will Amber or my brother Joe, they both will roast me alive.Feeling that there was nothing I could do about it, I continued working on my design but with a fully worried heart. The door opened again. Mary must be back, I had told her to come back in twenty minutes. My twenty minutes must be up.But I was met with silence."Mary?" I called out, not looking up."Ma'am it's not Mary." I looked up to see Veronica. She was one of the junior interior designers with a really great portfolio. What was she doing here?"Hello Veronica." I leaned back against my chair. "I hope I am not intruding on your time. I wanted to d
KyleFor some reason I couldn't stop thinking about Hayley. Was it guilt or something else? But what?"Fuck." I rubbed the sore spot between my eyes grunting at the notification that popped on my screen.Simone: I know you are seeing my texts and you better the do yourself the favor of picking up your phone when I call.Simone has been on my neck, ever since she found out about my hook up with Hayley. Constantly nagging at me about the fact that I cheated on her with my soon to be ex wife.I admit that I made a mistake and I apologized frequently for it but she wouldn't just let it go even though I was still with her.The wistful feeling that went through me as I remembered the peaceful three years I spent with Hayley. She understood the terms and kept to boundaries. But I shook my head because I was not going to waste my time comparing two women."Simone, I just saw your text." I withheld the sigh that was about to flee my lips. I didn't want he"Seriously Kyle. You just saw my text!
HayleyThe sound of the door bell ringing distracted me from The Disney movie I was watching with the kids. I stood gently but wanting to disturb the kids as they were too engrossed. I wondered who had come at this time of the day. It was already past 7pm and I wasn't expecting anyone.Amber has been too busy with her Brit man and I hoped that he doesn't hurt her.I opened the door to see the last person I expected."Kyle?" I was really surprised to see him here. What was he doing here?"Hi. May I come in?" He held up a basket of goodies. "Sure." I opened the door wider to let him pass through."You know you shouldn't just open the door like that. You have to check through the peephole before opening the door." He admonished after he removed his shoes standing with me "It's a safe neighborhood, you know that. Now what are you doing here?" I asked him folding my arms."I wanted to see the kids. I've been to busy at the office and.." He took them to the park just last weekend."You
KyleI stepped out of the elevator into the living room of my penthouse. After I moved out from the house I stayed with Hayley and the kids, I took a favor from a friend and got the penthouse as a temporary residence. It was closer to work and had a great view.Damn, I was so tired and I wanted to fall into bed so badly but first I need to get food from the kitchen."Welcome home babe." A sultry voice made me yelp in shock."Simone. What are you doing here?" She was sitting on the black couch shrouded in the shadows. I liked leaving the house in shadows when I wasn't around."Kyle. Obviously waiting for you, I got worried and came here. Where have you been? I've calling you nonstop and your phone was switched off."What was I thinking giving her the passkey to the elevator?"You know where I've been. We've talked about it this afternoon. I was with my kids and my phone was switched off." I shrugged off my suit jacket dropping it on the couch.I had purposely switched off my phone not
