Unexpected News

Kyle

For some reason I couldn't stop thinking about Hayley. Was it guilt or something else?

But what?

"Fuck." I rubbed the sore spot between my eyes grunting at the notification that popped on my screen.

Simone: I know you are seeing my texts and you better the do yourself the favor of picking up your phone when I call.

Simone has been on my neck, ever since she found out about my hook up with Hayley. Constantly nagging at me about the fact that I cheated on her with my soon to be ex wife.

I admit that I made a mistake and I apologized frequently for it but she wouldn't just let it go even though I was still with her.

The wistful feeling that went through me as I remembered the peaceful three years I spent with Hayley. She understood the terms and kept to boundaries.

But I shook my head because I was not going to waste my time comparing two women.

"Simone, I just saw your text." I withheld the sigh that was about to flee my lips. I didn't want he

"Seriously Kyle. You just saw my text! Oh my gosh, I can't believe." Simone let out a humorless laugh.

*Simone, is there a reason you called or are we going to start another round of fighting?"

We had a fight after I found out that Simone confronted Hayley at her place of work.

I was disgusted at her behavior and all attempts to talk things out always ended in fights.

And I knew this one was going to end in one too.

"Kyle, why are you treating me like this?" She whined.

"Like what Simone? I have tried my best trying to sort things out but you just don't want to let go of the past." I snapped, my patience clearly at the brink of breaking.

"Oh, so it's my fault now? Kyle, I didn't ask for any of this! For any of your baggage. For you to be a coward marrying Hayley instead of being with me. We were separated for three years Kyle after being together for almost twelve years. You let another woman separate us and you are still going to let her come in between us?" Her voice shook with emotions.

I closed my eyes letting the silence echo between us. I was so done with this cycle of nagging. It was a good thing she forgot to ask me if I regret being with her.

"I'm sorry Kyle. Please answer me."

"We will talk later Hayley." I gritted out.

"Are you still going to meet the kids today?" Her voice was quiet.

"Yes."

"Can I come with yo..?" I knew what she was going to say. I had never introduced my kids Wynter and Autumn to Simone. It was an unspoken rule Hayley and I had, never to bring Simone to her space.

One I would be stupid to break since the only thing I have ever given Hayley was heartbreak.

"We will talk later Simone, right now I have work to get back to." I disconnected the call annoyed at myself for even picking up in the first place.

"Trouble in Paradise?" I flinched as the male voice startled me. I had been so occupied with Simone that I didn't notice Freddie here.

"What do you want Freddie?" I asked irritated. I was in no mood for his annoying attitude this afternoon. He always had a habit of barging into my office like he owned it. I had come to terms with that.

"Came to check on my favorite work buddy but found out that he's in turmoil."

"Get to the point or you can leave."

"Whatever you want but how is your relationship going with our beloved Simone. Or so I should I say the love of your life?" He taunting laughing at the dirty glare I lasered at him.

Freddie and I had a love hate relationship, sometimes we were friends, sometimes we were enemies. But all the same he was my greatest advisor.

"Fuck off." Flipping him off I pretended to focus my attention on my laptop.

"You know your problem? You don't know what you want. I believe you are questioning your choice now right? I once leaned from a wise man that it's a terrible thing to juggle two women and even more severe when you are stuck between them and don't know what to do. But I am here for that, am I?" This was one of the times I hated how Freddie always hit the bull's eye about stuff.

I knew about Freddie's father and his promiscuous ways when he was still alive. According to Freddie, his father went to an early grave because of his hedonistic ways.

"So why are you here?"

"Word has it that Top man said there's a function coming up and all senior partners are to attend with their spouses."

"Fuck." I dragged out leaning back against my chair.

"Yes that's what I thought. And you know you can't flop this event. We don't want any

Shit! This was terrible. Just what I needed.

"And you know who to bring, it would be bad if you bring Simone as no one is really aware of your separation with Hayley."

We had both decided to keep the news of our separation quiet for now till it was the right time to tell everyone. That will be after the divorce.

"What do you suggest?" I asked for his opinion.

"You know what to do." He whistled a slow tune as he left my office.

What to do now? I wasn't in the right position to ask Hayley for any favors. And Simone will definitely try to come with me when she hears about this. Surely a blowout was guaranteed if she didn't get her way.

New mission, prevent Simone from finding out. Thank God she doesn't have any relation with my colleagues.

I made a decision to grab something on my way to see the kids and suck up the courage to ask Hayley for this favor.
