Unusual Thoughts

Kyle

Why do I think that Hayley to say something else when I called her two days ago, after she dropped a message for me.

More like her PA did that. Why didn't she just call my personal phone?

And the little misunderstanding about her checking out Hunter. Why that didn't sit well with me, I don't know. She was free to do whatever she wanted as I am.

''Everything alright dude?'' Hunter tapped on my shoulder jolting me from my thoughts.

''Yeah, I'm good.'' I nodded looking at him strangely. Does she find Hunter attractive?

Even though she said that she didn't mean it that way. But I couldn't help but wonder if she was just trying not to offend me.

''Dude, why are you looking at our homeboy like that?'' Freddie chuckled when I threw a glare at him. I still couldn't get the thought of Hayley liking Hunter out of my head.

They would be perfect for each other, even their names start with the same letter 'H'.

I did the unthinkable and asked a totally stupid question.

''Hunter, what do you think about single mothers? Would you go for one?''

Freddie and Hunter exchanged a strange look before he answered the question. We were all chilling at Freddie's impressive mansion. It was a white lie when I told Hayley that Hunter was just an acquaintance. He was mutual friends with me and Freddie, he was also the one who hooked me up with owner of the hotel where I was staying for the moment.

''Yeah, if she's cool. Sure, I might go for her.'' He brushed the back of his neck nervously.

''Okay, enough talk about strange and uncomfortable conversation. How is your upcoming court case going?'' Freddie broke the tension glaring pointedly at me.

''Terrible. The fact that I have to deal with that witch again.'' He sighed dropping on a sofa.

We all know how much Hunter despised his ex-wife Fiona. She was a big cheat and lies for a living. Hunter was barely tolerating her existence till he walked on Fiona fucking one of his company's investors.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back. He decided to call quits on the marriage and walk away with his assets intact.

''And you know with who representing her in court, I can guess how terrible it is.'' Freddie sympathized with him.

''Who?'' I was lost here.

''Hayley's friend, Amber is the lawyer representing Fiona in court.'' Freddie explained.

Wait a minute.

''Didn't like you have some kind of thing with her some time ago?" I looked at Hunter. I can't believe how wrapped up I have been in my affairs that I missed out on all this.

I remembered him leaving with Amber the day I went to the bar to get Hayley.

''Yeah, still seeing her. But for now, we are on a short break because it will be a conflict of interest if we are together for now.''

''That must be tough for both of you.'' I chastised myself inwardly at the ridiculousness that Hayley was interested in Hunter.

She was probably asking on behalf of Amber. They were basically best friends and Hayley had an engraved sense of loyalty. She would never do that, I should even ashamed for thinking that.

''Kyle.'' Freddie called me.

''Yeah, what's it?'' I asked. I must have been lost in thought.

''We have been trying to get your attention for a while now. Thought you slept on us.'' Hunter observed.

''No, I'm fine.''

''Kyle, welcome back to earth again. Our conversation must have been boring to you.'' Freddie sniped with a smirk.

''I know what he needs, may be a dip in the pool might help cool his head.'' Hunter suggested standing up.

''Race you suckers to the pool. The loser gets to pay for our bills later tonight when we go out to eat.''

Freddie hollered before dashing off.

It was a good thing that I had good friends to keep my mind off my situation.
