Meet The Parents

Hayley

''Hi Mom.' Hi Dad.' I smiled at the figures on the screen of my laptop. The kids were running around pretty happy that they could see their grand-parents even though it was through a screen.

''Hayley, how have you been?'' My dad asked. He looked much older, maybe due to the fact that I had not seen him for sometime since they stayed in Seattle.

''Fine Dad.'' I noticed Mom looking at Wynter and Autumn with longing in her eyes. I knew how hard it was for her to watch the kids grow from afar. At the time that Kyle and I had separated, she even suggested that we move to Settle to be closer to them.

But I couldn't just pack up knowing that my home was here in New York. I couldn't just stand up and leave. My career, friends and everything that I have ever worked for was here.

Though I understood why she suggested that we move, apparently the gossips that will come with the divorce and also not running into Kyle and Simone.

''Please bring my babies up so that I can see them closer.'' She gestured at Autumn who was trying to climb in my thighs while Wynter was cool playing with his train toy.

''Mom, I'm beginning to wonder if you even to call to check up on me.'' I grumbled as I picked up Autumn placing her on my thighs.

''Of course, you know the reason. I don't have to pretend here like your dad. Just bring me my babies. '' I laughed at the look of open guilt on Dad's face. I knew they were all about their grand-kids. My late grand-parents also did the same thing when they were alive.

''Hello my beautiful pumpkin and you my charming gentleman.'' She cooed at Autumn making her squeal wildly, bouncing in my arms.

''Grand-ma, mama.'' Wynter joined his sister, getting up to his feet and clapping hands.

''So adorable.'' Dad muttered wiping his hand down his face.

''You look bigger every time I see you. Wynter is also becoming quite the gentleman.'' She watched Wynter attempt to climb on my thighs.

Picking him, I shifted Autumn to my left thigh making room for Wynter.

''Yeah, they are definitely growing.'' I agreed nodding my head.

''So have you and Kyle decided on the school the kids will be enrolling at in September? You talk right?'' My mom asked with concern.

She and Kate are always worried about my communication skills with Kyle.

''Yes, we do talk. We even discussed this like a week ago. It's really nothing to worry about. We are handling this well.'' I said calmly.

''You sure princess?'' He looked unconvinced.

The relationship between Kyle and the male members of my family was severely strained. Mom barely tolerated him out of respect for her best friend Kate. Joe strongly disliked Kyle, it was a mutual thing for him and Amber. I could definitely say that they bonded over their dislike for Kyle. What a horrid thing to do.

''Yes Dad.'' I appreciated them looking out for me. But they didn't we were currently in a truce with each other.

''Okay, just let me if he steps out of line or disrespects you with that floozy of his.'' He replied completely serious.

''Xavier.'' Mom scolded hitting him on his arm.

That action spurned giggling from the kids. They were currently in a stage whereby any spontaneous thing done was funny to them. Like I had to be watching them extremely this period because they find it funny when they even hit themselves.

''Sorry.'' Dad apologized.

''It's no worries. How well are you guys preparing for your trip to New York?''

They will be coming for a visit soon. But they had to make sure it tallied with Joe's arrival.

Everyone was pretty excited for this reunion.

''We are preparing just fine. I can't wait to carry my babies in my arms again.''

''Yeah me too.'' Dad smiled looking at the twins.

''So the flight tickets and the hotel arrangements all set?'' Joe will be staying with me when he arrives to reduce cost. Also it was just temporary till he found an apartment.

''Sure, your father has handled everything. We are just patiently waiting till Joe arrives.''

''Yeah me too.''
