Eira’s POV

“A proposal? What proposal?” I asked curiously because I didn't know what kind of help I could possibly offer to the Grand Beta of the whole werewolf Packs.

“Yes, a proposal.”

“Oh, okay. What proposal?” I asked again.

“Come with me to treat the Alpha King. ” He blurted out.

“Uhn?” I replied, blinking as if I didn't hear him.

“I said come with me to treat the Alpha King.” He expressed again now in a precise and straightforward voice.

“Treat the Alpha king? Is the Alpha King sick?” I asked, unable to believe my ears.

How could the Alpha King get sick some days after he met his mate?

Is it a contagious sickness?

“Yes, he is ill but now everyone knows about it,” I heard Amoux slowly replied.

“Then, why are you telling me?”

“Because you will be treating him,” I heard Amoux's instant reply.

“When did I agree to that?” I replied with a frown because there was no way I'm leaving my sick father to treat some Alpha King and I can't be forced!

“Snow! You are back!”

I heard my mother's voice coming from our little gate immediately after my statement.

“Ma!”

I quickly left the Beta and went to relieve my mother of the stuff she brought from the market then hugged her tightly.

Apart from me, my mother is the only person that understands medicine in this house. It wasn't her natural talent, just a hobby, but she was still better than Carla, who doesn't even know the names of the most common herb.

“Sweetheart, when did you get back?”

“Not quite long, Ma, how are you?”

“I'm good, just stressed.

“I missed you, Ma,” I said to my mother, completely forgetting that the Grand Beta was still there.

“I’ve missed you, sweetie,”

“Ma, why did you go to the market yourself, you could have sent Carla, ” I rebuked when I saw how stressed she looked.

“It wasn't as if Carla doesn't wanna go but you know she can't recognize the herbs, ” My mother let out after rubbing the beads of sweat on her forehead with the back of her hand.

I know that she was just covering for my younger sister because Carla would never volunteer to go, but at the same time, I also know that Carla really doesn't recognize herbs at all.

“..and I didn't know when you will be back, that's why I went to get herbs, ”

“Oh, Eira. Have you met the Beta yet? He came the day after you left for the mountains.” My mother asked immediately after she noticed Amoux's huge body frame a few steps away.

“Yes, I met him when I got back,”

“Oh, then I will go and boil the herbs and leave you too to discuss.”

“Ma, No.. Don't stress yourself. I think you should go and rest. When I'm done with the Grand Beta, I will boil the herbs, ”

“Okay, if you say so. Where's Carla and your Papa?”

“Carla is in her room and Papa is still napping,” I answered.

My mother then nodded at the Grand Beta and walked towards my father's room.

“Mr Beta ..”

“No, you can call me just call Amoux, ”

“Oh, good. Amoux. As you can see, my father is sick and bedridden. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to go with you to treat the Alpha King because I can't leave my father in this state.”

I quickly mumbled out to the Grand Beta so he wouldn't have false hope.

“I can wait for two days, what did you think?”

“Just two days?”

“Is it not enough?”

“Of course, it's not enough, I won't leave this house until my father is back on his feet, ” I said to Amoux with a straight face.

“A week then, you have a week to go back with me.” Amoux finally compromised after a few minutes.

I can still do a week, I'm confident in my talent.

I know that it might not even take up to a week but I won't leave this house until my father is healthy.

“Okay, ” I mumbled and asked to be excused so I could start preparing my father’s medicine.

It's been two days since I arrived from the mountains and I could see a visible change in my father’s declining health as I have been feeding him the medicine consistently.

Now, he was able to eat little fruits unlike before when he couldn't even drink water because he lost his appetite and would vomit if forced.

“Papa, how are you feeling now? Do you have any complaints?” I asked my father after he finished eating the apple I sliced for him.

“I feel a lot better. No, I don’t have any complaints.” He replied in a low voice.

“Open your eyes a bit wider, Papa,” I said as I moved closer to him.

When he opened his eyes, I saw that the greenish color in his eyes was slowly fading.

I immediately heaved a deep breath.

Thank the Moon goddess. He's finally okay

“Oka, Papa, you can close your eyes now, but I'd love you to take this liquid medicine again,” I said and brought the bowl and placed it in his hands.

“Okay, sweetie,”

I watched as my father gulped the bitter liquid till there was nothing left in the little boil.

I smiled broadly at how cooperative he was.

If only my other patients could be as cooperative as him, it would have saved me lots of stress.

“Papa, the medicine will make you feel dizzy, so when it does, just sleep okay,” I said to my father who was already yawning.

I couldn't help but smile again as I tucked him in and covered his body with the blankets.

When I saw that he was already sleeping, I left his room and shut the door gently behind me.

Since my father is getting better, I should see Amoux and talk to him about his proposal.

So, I can know what exactly is wrong with the Alpha King.

I went outside to look for Amoux but I couldn't see any sign of him.

In the last two days, I've always seen him hanging around with Carla, but I just can't find him right now.

“Carla?”

“Amoux?”

I called out but it was only Carla’s voice I heard a reply from.

“What is it, Eira, why are you screaming my name?” I heard Carla reply as she came out of the backyard, I could see the obvious frown on her face.

“Where’s Amoux?” I asked her, ignoring her rude expression.

“Did you put him in my care? Why are you asking about the whereabouts of a full-grown man?” Carla snapped at me.

Guess, today is one of the bad days.

“I'm only asking because I've been seeing you both together. Just tell me where he is, Carla. I've got something to discuss with him.” I replied as directly as I could because I'm not in the mood for any controversy.

“I don’t know where he is, ” Carla replied and went back inside without waiting for a reply from me.

I stared at her retreating back and frowned slightly.

What the hell is wrong with her? I thought and turned around to go back inside.

I was on my way when I saw a lone big black wolf coming towards our house.

I quickly sniffed and saw that it wasn't a rogue, not that our Pack guards would let them in, but someone can't be too careful.

It was when the wolf got closer that I saw the familiarity in his eyes.

That's Amoux, right?

Where is he coming from?

And what's that in his mouth?

I carefully inspected him for any sign of paw scratches or anything but I couldn't find any until he got closer and I saw blood on its furs.

When Amoux got in front of me, I watched him drop the body of the brown fox from his mouth and immediately left.

After some minutes, he came back fully dressed but I was still at the front door, totally helpless on what to use a fox for.

“Dinner,” Amoux interfered.

He smiled briefly then picked up the fox and went inside.

Did he mean that the fox is for dinner??

Wow!

I've never eaten a fox before. I rarely hunt so I could only catch rodents or chameleons. I've never caught a big animal.

I quickly followed his lead.

“A fox?”

I heard my mum say from the kitchen as I entered.

He already got to the kitchen?

The Grand Beta can't really be underestimated. It was just a few seconds ago that he came inside and he's already in the kitchen.

“Yes, a fox, I hunt it when I was coming from your Alpha’s house,”

“You went to our Alpha’s house?” I asked immediately as I entered the kitchen.

“Yes, it's been three days since I got here it would be rude if I didn't drop by his house,”

“Oh…” I mumbled as I nodded my head. It would really be rude if he hadn't gone to see him truly..

Though our Pack is not as strong as other werewolf Packs, it is still rich in soil and good water, and our position can't be underestimated in the council.

“Amoux, can you come out for a while, I want to discuss something with you.”

“Sure, ”

I heard his reply and walked out of the room with him behind me.

“My dad is getting better and I would like to tell you that it might not be up to a week before he becomes as healthy as before,”

I said to Amoux immediately we got outside on the front door.

“That’s nice, I wish him quick recovery,”

“Yeah, Thank you.” I mumbled with a smile.

“So what did you want to discuss with me?” Amoux asked when he saw that I remained quiet.

“Uhm,”

Ah, shit!

How am I supposed to ask what's the Alpha King's sickness when he had once told me that it was a strange sickness that no one knows about?

“Yes?”

I raised my eyebrows and looked up at him but I couldn't form the words.

Come on, Snow, you are a healer!

It's your job to ask!
