Chapter 4 The Connection Between Mother and Child

The small black backpack on his back swung around as he ran. As he stood neatly beside Scarlett with his tiny legs, the height difference between the two of them was very obvious.

"Did you do this, Lucas?" Scarlett lowered her sunglasses slightly, looking at the group of reporters not far away.

"No." Lucas put his hand on his heart, swearing to his mother that he didn't tip off the reporters, who were here for them.

Scarlett looked at her precious son skeptically. She didn't even tell her father about her return to Atville. Who would believe that this little boy wasn't the one who spilled the secret?

"I'm telling the truth, Miss Langston." Lucas put his hand on his waist, pouting in protest. "If you don't want to be swamped by a bunch of work the day after your return, I suggest we run away right now."

When she was in Amerstica, she was overwhelmed by mountains of work. If she took on this many cases upon her return, she would probably go crazy. "We run in three, two, one…Go!" Seeing eye to eye, the mother and son ran to another exit before the reporters rushed toward them.

"Poor Uncle Dylan. He came here for nothing." Lucas held his mother's hand as he ran down the streets of Atville. He had done this many times in the past. However, he was thrilled that he got to enjoy himself the moment he stepped foot in his motherland for the first time.

"I'll definitely get to the bottom of this, Lucas." Scarlett was out of breath from running, her ladylike image completely ruined by the boy. She wouldn't believe that Lucas wasn't the one who tipped off the reporters, even if he swore it under oath.

"Do you think you have what it takes, Miss Langston? Haha…" Lucas was enjoying himself.

The young mother and her son sprinted through the streets with the crowd of reporters chasing after them as if they were prey. Seeing that the reporters were about to catch up, Lucas suddenly stopped his mother and ran into an office building.

The reporters were like chewing gum. Putting the stickiness aside, once they so much as set their eyes on something, nothing would shake them off. Seeing that Scarlett and Lucas went into the building, they entered as well, using their position as reporters. The company was actually holding a fashion show today, and there were as many reporters here as the ones chasing after them. Fortunately, they didn't know who she was.

On the stage, tall, young women in gorgeous dresses were showcasing the beauty of their outfits. Many business and fashion tycoons in the audience were enjoying this impeccable fashion show.

Scarlett pulled Lucas to the side, where the business tycoons were sitting, hoping to blend in and mislead those reporters. Unexpectedly, those reporters began searching the crowd, one by one.

"Mommy, it's not safe here." Lucas frowned and pulled Scarlett, who was looking at the runway.

"Who designed these clothes? They look amazing," she couldn't help but praise genuinely, liking the style of the clothing on the stage.

"Miss Langston, do you really want to get a mountain of invitations tomorrow and be drowned by the amount of work you have to do?" Lucas gave his mother a cold look.

"Isn't that what you hoped for?" Scarlett was in a rather good mood right now. Even if she had to take on a bunch of cases, this little guy wouldn't be able to escape either.

"Come on, let's go." Lucas yanked hard, dragging Scarlett away from the VIP seating area.

They were both unfamiliar with the layout of the building. They wanted to leave but ended up at the fashion show backstage instead.

"Scarlett!" a reporter wearing sunglasses shouted, pointing at them. Immediately, the reporters who were with him rushed backstage like a siege.

"Monica hasn't arrived yet?"

"That's right. I tried to call her several times, but no one picked up."
