Chapter 1

EMY'S POV

"The pack is under attack! The pack is under attack!"

That was one thing I hadn't heard in all the ten years I had been here. I pushed myself away from the wall and got up from the cold floor where I sat in my cell.

The lights were blaring red, indicating a breach in the pack.

I moved closer to the bars and right outside my cell, other prisoners' ran to and fro in panic; some were trying to get their loved ones out of their cell while others made a run for it.

"We need to get out of here!"

"Leave her, you bastard! Let's save ourselves first!"

A typical thing to say. It was a greedy world after all, especially here; we were all prisoners of the Moon Shadow Pack that was presently under attack.

Whoever they are, I hope they burn this pack to the ground.

"Ah, no," I mumbled. "The children…" I thought to myself. What would happen to them? They would probably end up like how I ended up; I woke up one day with nothing to my name; no family; no loved ones- I was practically by myself and according to the guards around, I had wandered into their territory.

I've been a prisoner ever since.

Sometimes, I tried to think to remember how I ended up in this godforsaken Pack but after the empty memories came nothing but a headache, the feeling of fear that left me trembling for days- it was horrific.

The pack healer mentioned that I had memory loss and with time, I could recover. But who would give me time in this Pack? I was a prisoner and there were lots of hard labourers lying in wait for prisoners.

Hearing that the pack was under attack filled me with a pinch of hope- the first one I'd had ever since I opened my eyes ten years ago.

I grabbed the bars with both hands and barked at one of the prisoners who was about to make his way out. "Hey!" I called out and he stopped and gave his attention. His eyes were wide in fright and the way his shoulders shook, I could tell even the sudden appearance of a fly could scare him.

"L-Let me out of here," I practically begged while putting up a tough front. I would do anything to run away. I wanted to taste freedom and actually have it last.

The man chuckled for a while but he soon turned into a creep, laughing with his eyes wide as he slowly approached my cell.

I backed away, frightened by the sick look in his eyes. He was a perfect example of what life in the Moon Shadow Pack could be like. He looked a lot older than me- judging by the wrinkles on his face or maybe he wasn't that old, he had probably just been through so much-

"Let you out?" he repeated. "Why would anyone waste their time on a wolfless piece of garbage!" he yelled, as if pissed that I had even dared to call out to him.

His words were nothing I hadn't heard before so I wasn't hurt by them. What hurt me instead was that, once again, my deficiency had caused a hindrance.

"Please," I resorted to begging instead. Being wolfless had taught me one thing; no one would go out of their way to do anything for me even if my life depended on it.

He backed away from the cell and with each step he took further away, my heart sank and the little light of hope started to fade away.

I saw someone approach him from behind.

The figure was large and it sent a chill through me. I might be wolfless but I knew danger when I saw one. I staggered back into my cell but the man didn't know what was behind him.

Perhaps he sensed it because his eyes widened on alert and he spun on his heels to turn around but in the twinkling of an eye, his head was flying across the room while his lifeless body fell to the ground.

I slapped a hand over my mouth as I concealed myself in the darkness of my cell, knowing fully well that wouldn't be enough to save me from a strong werewolf.

The woman next to my cell screamed as the head had rolled between her cell and mine. I stared at the wide eyes of the dead man. He had died with hope of escaping in his heart while all that filled my heart was fear of what would become of me.

******

I didn't need to think that far. That night, my fate was decided. The Moon Shadow Pack was swallowed up in a much larger Pack. In one night, I went from a Moon Shadow Pack prisoner to a Nightwalker's slave.

The Nightwalkers Pack was made up of several other Packs- by force of course. The Alpha, Jerry, attacked smaller packs and swallowed them up on his own, forcing them into submission by killing their Alpha's and taking the lead.

He had done this for several years and Moon Shadow Pack wasn't the first.

"Oh dear. Alpha Jerry won't ever get satisfied," I lowered my head to stare at the old woman beside me. She had her gaze on the warriors that matched towards the borders of the Pack.

It wasn't in my place to care about what was going on but anyone could guess.

"That greedy son of a bitch!" her mate growled low under his breath afraid to be heard. "I bet he would die at the hands of his enemies but he would mistake them for his Pack members."

"I doubt he knows just how big his Pack is. Now he's on his way to acquire more?" she shook her head. "But I hear the neighbouring pack is ten times the strength of this one."

"There is strength in Unity, Margret," the old man told her. "Alpha Jerry may have conquered the land but he sure doesn’t have the people's heart."

Everyone could agree with that. We all didn't want to be here; I especially. I was made to do every single thing. Being an Omega was bad enough but being a wolfless Omega? Even the Omegas felt  like Alphas next to me. So much so that they ordered me about.

It had been one year since we came under Alpha Jerry's leadership and everything had gone south in my life from there.

"Hey you!"

I had a name but what was the point of using it when that was more effective?

"On your feet."

I did as I was told before I even checked to see who was ordering me about. I met with the scowl of one of the warriors and he sized me up from head to toe. When he held my gaze, the scowl on his face twitched but only for a second before he wore back all the anger on Earth.

"Take this and come with me," he turned and started to walk away.

I rushed towards the bag that was filled with supplies for a mission. I picked up the bag but not without my hands threatening to tear off. Heavy was an understatement. I was panting when I threw it over my shoulders.

I hastened in my steps to catch up with the warrior who was heading towards the others that stood, waiting by the woods.

"You're kidding," one scoffed. "You're bringing that along?"

"It's just to carry the supplies.”

I was the 'it' and 'that' they referred to.

"Have you forgotten how dangerous this mission is?" they asked. "What's a wolfless piece of junk going to add to the mission if not be a burden?"

"Do you want to carry the supplies then?"

That shut them up.

Lazy bastards! My back was killing me but I couldn't even whimper or cry out in pain.

We walked for hours and soon, night was upon us. They slowed down in their steps when they got to a place and the only thing in my mind was how to catch my breath.

"You're breathing too heavy," someone said with annoyance in his tone. "Swallow it. Don't make me hit you."

It wouldn't be the first but it sure would be the last if they did that around here since their only aim was to be quiet.

"Shit, it's so heavily guarded," one mumbled. "It's like a field of warriors keeping guard. Who has this much security?"

I dropped the bag carefully on the floor and I almost sighed in relief. I stretched out my limbs, rolling my shoulders and massaging wherever I could touch around my back to ease the throbbing pain.

"Are you sure it's alright to move this far away from our own border?"

"Quit being a whiny baby!" he scoffed. "This land doesn't belong to them. If we return without any information, Alpha Jerry will have our heads."

"You, wait here," I nodded without looking. I didn't want to move any closer to begin with. I was fine right here. Whatever this mission was about, I didn't want to partake in it. I'd rather stay ignorant and carry the bag-

"Abort mission! Abort mission!" I heard the warriors scream as they zoomed past me as they ran, fleeing and leaving me behind.
