Chapter 3

The rest of the school week went by in a daze. I didn’t know how to tell my family that I was hearing a voice in my head that was trying to convince me that I was a werewolf or that I was starting to believe it. The more Leah and I talked, the stronger my connection to her felt and the more truthful her words felt. It was true that I had always been stronger than other females and a lot of males. Being something more than human just seemed to feel like the right explanation. But how do you tell the people closest to you that you are human as they had once believed and convince them that you aren’t crazy.

Leah and I spent the rest of the week discussing what course of action to take, debating on whether or not we should keep this to ourselves or tell those that mattered the most in our lives. By the time Saturday came around we were no closer to reaching a decision. Still, I had promised Seth and April that I would go to Panic with them for my birthday and I knew I needed to put on a happy face.

The plan was for April to come over this afternoon to get ready with me. Neither of us had every really been big into makeup or dresses but when it comes to club nights April had always enjoyed going all out. I think it may be the only time she ever just let go. When you are seen as being that really smart girl, I guess it feels nice to have some moments of release. To drink and dance and feel like nothing else matters. It’s the reason I never drink when we go to Panic. I always feel like the responsible parent looking out for April.

From downstairs I could hear the front door open. “Sarah, April’s here!” mom called from downstairs.

I could feel Leah jumping in the back of my mind, “I can’t believe I finally get to go dancing with you!” She had been looking forward to this more than I have. It’s been strange having her as a part of me all week, we were so different. She was obnoxious, hardly ever stopped talking and seemed to be what people call a social butterfly. Whereas, I had always kept more to myself. Even as captain of two sports teams, I really didn’t socialize with many of my teammates often. Typically, I only spent time with April and Seth. I could tell that Leah was going to want a change to that. All week she had been trying to push me to talk to more people at school. I could hardly imagine what she would be like at the club tonight.

As I was thinking about the differences between me and my supposed wolf, I can hear a soft knock on my bedroom door. “Come in!”

April opened the door and walked in with a big smile covering her face, “Your mom said I should just come up. Have you decided what you are going to wear tonight? If not, I brought a few extra dresses that you might like.”

“I was just planning on wearing my blue dress again,” I responded.

A look of disgust ran across April's face, “I should have known, do you even own another dress? Every time we go out you wear that. We really need to take you shopping one day. Here, wear this.”

April thrust a black thigh high dress with a low v cut. Something I would never normally think of wearing, but I had a strong feeling that it would highlight my figure beautifully. I might be athletic but my body did not lack curves.

Oh, I brought these for you too,” April squealed thrusting a pair heals toward me.

“Thanks,” I sighed. I hardly ever wore heels, typically sticking with my cleanest pair of tennis shoes instead.

We spent the first few hour just talking about our first week of school. April was taking college prep classes and already had a mountain of homework she had to get done tomorrow. “Guess you won’t be drinking much tonight,” I teased.

“Much? I won’t be drinking at all,” she responded. “Tonight, is your night, I plan on caring you home tonight, well having Seth carry you home that is.”

I was shocked, April knew I had never had more than one or two sip of alcohol. What made her think I wanted to get drunk just because it was my birthday.

“Alright, before you say no, you’re turning 18. You’re officially an adult and it is something to celebrate. Trust me, sometimes it’s nice to just blow off a little steam and Seth and I will make sure you’re safe. Please just let us help you fully enjoy this night.” April pleaded.

“Ok, ok. Just don’t let me get too messed up and you need to promise that my mom parents won’t find out.” I said sighing in defeat.

“Oh, yay!” Leah squealed in my head. “you’ll be surprised how much we can drink before we have any problems. We’re going to have so much fun tonight!”

We went downstairs to eat a quick dinner before getting ready for the night ahead of us. My mom surprised me with an amazing chocolate cake for my birthday even though it was still actually two days away. After eating a little bit of the cake, we headed back up to finally get ready.

I had to admit the dress April lent me looked great but I was nothing compared to April. She was wearing a thigh length red dress with a plunging neckline. I hugged every curve of her 5’6” body and showed off her well sized breasts. Her makeup did her even more favors highlighting her plump lips with ruby lipstick and adding depth to her blue eyes with winged eyeliner. No one would ever suspect her to be the brainiac she was in this outfit. Even Joycelyn would be jealous if she was at Panic tonight.

“You look amazing!” I told April with a huge smile.

A soft blush crossed her face, “You don’t think it’s too much? I don’t want to show you up or anything,” she said suppressing a giggle. I knew she was just joking; she knew I would never care even if she did show me up. I would be wearing jeans and a t-shirt if she would let me get away with it.

Seth finally arrived dressed in his traditional wardrobe of all black. “Wow April, you look fantastic!” He said with a look of desire in his eyes. “Sarah, is that you? What have you done with my friend; you know the one that is supposed to be in a blue dress with tennis shoes?”

I rolled my eyes at Seth “Ha very funny. Can we just go please?”
