Chapter 16
I was a mess on the way back to Kent’s house. I sat in the passenger seat with tears running down my face barely making a noise. It had been the longest day of my life and my mind couldn’t seem to process it all. Since the time I woke up today my whole world had been going crazy and now here I sat, leaving my home and family behind.
Kent seemed to sense that I wasn’t in the mood to talk but made a point to wrap his hand around mine giving me at least one point of comfort. The instant I felt his skin touch mine, I knew it was exactly what I needed to keep my world together. I needed to know I wasn’t alone even though I had just left everyone I loved most behind me. The drive seemed to last forever, my mind going over the days events, seeing the look on my parents face when I told them I was leaving. Even thinking of Seth and April, my two best friends, brought my sharp jabs of pain. An eternity later, we finally pulled into Kent’s garage.

I could see the sunlight filling the room even through my closed eyelids. I had no desire to wake up, but daylight was reminding me that the day was waiting. Slowly, I opened my eyes and took in my environment. It was a second before I remembered where I was and finally why. Remembering Kent’s warmth, I looked beside me. The place that had once held his body lay empty and I felt a small sinking in my heart. Richard and I spent hours going over my school subjects, mostly just giving him an idea where I was in each subject. Unsurprisingly, he seemed well educated in all areas and was a great help. It was different learning one on one as opposed to in a classroom. I noticed I was able to focus more and was absorbing more of what he was saying. After we covered all subjects, we started in on werewolf history.I had received a brief intro yesterday but I was sure there was still far more for me to learn. I was surprised when, instead of leading me through the same hidden door towards the endless hall, Kent turned to the wall in the back of the living room. It took a second but right before he reached for it, I saw the same oval outline that I had before. I remembered Kent had told me there were more secret passageways so I figured this was just leading to another unseen section of his house. It didn’t. This door was much more intense that the first. Before sliding open, a number of locks could be heard turning and once it did, thick steel bars could be seen within the foot wide door. On the other side, was the yard leading to the training center we had gone to a few days before. I longed for a peaceful night’s sleep, time to relax and recharge for the crazy weekend. I hoped in vain knowing life had more than just sleep in store for me. It seemed as though I had just drifted to off when I was met with the blinding light that I was beginning to associate with Selene's presence. After a quick meal and thanking Dana, I found myself knocking on my makeshift class room door. Richard reply was immediate.“Come in.”Once again he was perched on the edge of his desk with his eyes focused on a book. He barely looked up as I took my seat and waited. After a few minutes, Richard finally peeled his eyes from the pages and focused them on me.“We shall start with your school work again for the first four hours, one hour for our history and then I have arranged for us to have a private lesson in the training center. This will be our schedule from here on out and Kent has asked that you also join in his training class on Tuesdays and Thursdays after our own.”I nodded in agreement and we dove into my basic class work. After training, my level of exhaustion had skyrocketed. I had spent my life in excellent physical shape but I was beginning to realize I wasn’t in top shape for magic. It would be some time before I would be able to fully control it.The only positive of training was that I finally got to see Kent.
