Was I dreaming?

Jane

Everything was like magic. The bed was the first thing I saw which had my eyes watering up. It had seven pillows at the head of the bed. The covers were enough to cover me up during winter and it would keep me warm.

I remembered my old bed and I suddenly remembered that I had not even slept in a bed in years now.

I had either been on the floor or on a mat which did not help my body. I was lucky I was a werewolf or I would have been deformed by the awkward sleeping spaces I had to be confined in.

Since I healed really quickly I did not have any trouble having to sleep in a confined space as I would be okay within a few hours of getting up.

My eyes darted to the shelf which had a flower vase with multiple books in them.

I could not remember having books in my possession in the former house. I was always denied having everything. From nice clothes to books to shoes. Heck I didn’t even have a phone or have the luxury of using any of the technology in the house.

I had to be pushed aside and used as a slave after my parents died. It was almost like my parents were disposable and I was no longer part of the family.

I sighed while thinking of the past. I was still living in my slavery as I had been sold out anyway.

I looked to the east wing of the bed to see the drawers which had so much pen and paper with a telephone stuck to it. A dragon shaped lamp was there which I could guess was motion activated.

The couch by the windows had me entering the room slowly to make sure it was not a trap.

“You’re still here,” I heard someone say as I jumped in fear, turning around to see Gail with a trolley in her possession.

“Oh,” I inhaled sharply trying to calm myself down. “I was waiting for you to come and take me to my room.”

She had widened eyes. I could see how beautiful she was. Why would the man who had gotten me from my uncle want me when he could have her?

She was just as pretty and I could see from the jewels she had on she was either being paid well or was from a rich family, although why she would want to live in this place and serve was beyond me.

“This is the room ma’am,” she smiled, easing up as she entered with the trolley which I eyed. It contained lush foods from different seas. I could see crabs, lobsters, fishes and even eels.

I gulped as I had not seen this coming.

“You can’t be serious,” I said while still eyeing the food which she pushed to me. I stared at her with a question. “What… what are you doing? Who do I have to serve?”

“This is for you, silly,” she smiled. “By the gods you’re really making my job harder than the others. This is your food. I had to leave you here to get it only to come back and find you still standing by the door. Is everything alright?”

The urge to tell her everything I had in me overwhelmed me as I opened my mouth but decided against it.

I was not going to trust anyone. I was here as nothing more than an item. No one was going to see me as anything more than what I truly was.

‘That’s not true,’ Nala my wolf countered. She was the only one who truly understood how I felt everyday and she was always there to motivate me to keep going forward.

With everything I had gone through it was a miracle she had not broken. She was still as strong as ever while I was just… there.

“So…” I smiled, feeling my eyes water up as I cleaned it with the back of my hands, walking to the windows. “These are beautiful.”

“Are you sure you’re okay? Shall I call you a healer or tell the alpha about…”

I did not know much about the alpha and even when he had seemed nice a few minutes ago, I could not trust him with me.

Sullivan had been nice to me the first few times as leader of the pack but now I could consider him a monster and I would not be lying.

“Ma’am?” The woman before me called as I came back to reality. “Is everything okay?”

I had not been asked that before, at least not after my parents died. I was seen as a mistake and I was seen as one who was not to exist.

“I’m fine,” I finally found my voice. I would not be treated like a queen on the first day and be treated like a worthless slave the next. I had to be on alert and be ready for whatever came next.

Nothing was permanent and most especially how good this place was. It was too good to be true.

“Alright, I will leave the trolley here and your clothes will be brought for you soon. The other maids have gone to the market to buy them so give them some time.

“Now if there is anything you want, use the telephone by the drawer and call me. I will be your assistant from now on. If you want me changed it will also be possible and you will have someone else by your side.”

That was a lot to take in as she smiled before bowing and walking out of the room.

I stood in the middle of the room expecting her to come in and tell me it was a joke but after five minutes of continuous waiting I decided that it was real.

‘What the fuck just happened?’ my wolf asked, as she was just as shocked as I was.
