“Gail!” I yelled when I entered the palace. “Gail! Where is that woman?”

I walked up the stairs, tossing my bags and groceries to the maids who lined up to receive them.

I heard a thud as I turned back to see a celery on the floor. The maid who was supposed to catch it frightened and shivering where she stood.

“You’re fired,” I said as the maid started to cry. I turned to see Gail before me. “You scared me for a second.”

My heartbeat had already increased as I looked at her and noticed there was something amiss.

“Welcome back my lady,” she smiled. “You cannot fire her my lady as that is my job to do. She is fired only when her crime has been reported to me and she has been deemed unworthy of her position.”
