5 I make a new friend? And I'm wolfless

Riviera walks around looking for a place to sit, but all the seats seem to be taken already. Except for one that had to a girl sitting by herself. While making her way over, Garcia comes to stand before her. Expecting another fight, Riviera grips her food tray ready to use it as a weapon.

"I saved you a seat," Garcia says. She seems extra cheerful and seems to have forgotten about their fight.

"Thanks, but I need a little time to myself to process all that is happening." Riviera walks off, nothing waiting for her response.

"Hey, can I sit with you?" The brown hair girl looks up, the look on her face says. 'She is talking to me?'

She gives a curt nod, as if she is unsure. Riviera pulls out her chair, which scrapes on the ground.

"I'm Riviera." She says.

The girl looks up at her, "I know everyone is talking about you, they have been since the day you came."

The girl looks down and fumbles to open her milk.

"So what's your name?" Riviera tries to keep the conversation going.

"Kylie.'' She responds softly, still struggling with her bottle.

"Kylie as in Kylie Jenner?"

"Who?" the girl asks, genuinely confused.

Riviera didn't even bother trying to explain who the Jenners are. She is astonished because someone her age doesn't know who that is.

In her frustration, Kylie pushes her bottled milk to the side and begins eating what seems like beef pasta. "Sorry, I'm not used to people talking to me," Kylie says.

Riviera didn't understand why she saw nothing wrong with the girl across from her. She seems pretty normal in her eyes. With her gray calculating eyes, pouty lips and straight nose.

Then she gets up to dumb her half-eaten food. That is when Riviera notices her outfit. She wears a brown wash-out t-shirt that is three sizes too big for her petite frame, a brown leather skirt and rainbow-coloured boots. Not being the one to judge, Riviera looks away from the girl, not wanting her to feel any more awkward.

"You should eat up. The bell will ring soon." Kylie states.

Riviera looks down at her pizza, thinking that maybe if she found the lunchroom in time he wouldn't have to be in a rush. The moment she picks up her drink, the bell goes off.

"Damn it." She slams her hand on the table. Kylie gasps and sinks back into the wall.

Riviera dumps her food and goes in search of her next class, Mastering. Which sounds like something from Harry Potter.

She makes it just in time to hear the teacher welcoming them to their new school term.

"So where is Riviera? Our new student."

The crowd parts, and Riviera finds herself in the middle.

"Welcome, I'm Mr. Benson." He smiles, gesturing for her to come to the front of the class.

She does this slowly, as all eyes watch as she goes.

"We will start with you. Do you have your powers as yet?" He asks.

Confusion plays on Riviera's face, "powers?"

"You know, that little spark that makes you special."

Riveria shakes her head.

"OK, how about shifting?"

"I do not know what you are talking about."

Mr. Benson nods.

"Oh, yes. You grew up in the human world, but you must have changed into your wolf. It is normal for people your age to have undergone and experience the shift already."

Riviera shakes her head.

"You don't have your wolf? Well, I can't say this is a first. But after hearing about the fight you got in, I would have thought, well, never mind. I'm sure that you will soon."

Riviera makes her way back to the group again.

"Human," boy with a buzz cut and lean body mocks.

"Joshua! Why don't you come up here and show us your wolf and leave Riviera alone?''

Joshua smirks. "Watch and learn, human girl. Maybe you and those other two freaks can learn a thing or two."

Riviera wishes at that moment that she could punch him in the face, "whatever dog." She settles for instead.

She didn't notice Kylie or Jeremiah at first, as they are the definition of a wallflower.

"Hey." Riviera comes to stand in between the two.

"Hey, there surfer girl." Jeremiah smiles.

Kylie looks away.

"Don't worry, Kylie, she's cool," Jeremiah says.

But the other girl didn't seem to have any interest in her.

"So what is this class all about?"

"Just a way to show off our wolves and powers, which is lame, if you ask me. We shouldn't be defined by if we can shift or not." Jeremiah states.

''You don't have a wolf yet, do you?" Riviera asks.

Jeremiah shakes his head, "I wouldn't want to be the Alpha's guard dog, anyway."

Riviera gives a half-smile.

Before she could make a joke, there is a scream then laughing.

When she looks to the front, she can see a snake on the ground, about the length of a cat. And someone standing next to it covered from head to feet in long green hair.

"Where did that snake come from? Or that thing?" Riviera asks.

"Must be shapeshifters. That is an outstanding power to have if you ask me, well if you can shift into something useful." The displeasure in his voice is clear.

"Yeah, who's afraid of the Yeti and the worm." Riviera laughs.

Jeremiah bust out with a laugh.

The two mocked whoever it was.

"I bet he needs a lot of hair conditioner." A voice says.

They turn to Kylie, who has an unsure look on her face, thinking that her joke isn't funny.

But Jeremiah and Riviera burst out laughing.

"Yeah, can you imagine him going to the barber? Just a trim off the top." Jeremiah jokes.

"Imagine the shedding."

But their laughs soon die down when Mr. Benson comes to stand before them.

"I do not tolerate tomfoolery or mockery in my class." He says his face twists as he says it, sprouting hair on his face.

Riviera looks up at him and gulps.

"Especially coming from the late bloomers." He adds.

Jeremiah looks away, and Kylie seems about to cry.

"Sorry." Riviera is the one to speak.

"Next time, I won't be so forgiving. I will that this slide because you are new." With his final word, he walks back to the head of the class.

"Well, that's a bummer."

"Shush, wolves have excellent hearing," Kylie warns

Riviera exchange a look with Jeremiah and the snicker.

After class Riviera rushes to her locker, she has one class left and couldn't wait to leave.

She feels uncomfortable with everyone's eyes on her, plus Garcia, who keeps talking to her, is getting annoying.

In Chemistry class, they paired Riviera with Kylie and Jeremiah.

"I can already tell that this class will be exciting." She is more lively than the two. Especially Kylie, who is more reserved.

As the three mix chemicals together, somewhere along the line, Kylie adds an incorrect amount, and it causes the mixture to bubble over and red smoke to bellow from the flask.

Riviera is the first to laugh, and the other two join in.

But it is short-lived when the teacher comes to stand before their table.

"Well, what do we have here?" She places a hand on her hips.

Jeremiah tries to apologize, but she speaks over him when he tries to explain again. That is when the teacher opens her mouth, and the sound that comes out isn't exactly a scream.

Riviera covers her ears to block out the nose, but it is as if the sound has crawled into her brain.

"Let this be a lesson to you." She walks away at that.

Kylie wipes the blood from her nose and was sobbing.

"Is she allowed to do that?" Riviera asks, but Jeremiah didn't reply. Instead, he makes the experiment from scratch.
