Chapter 21

Kellan walked away from Gemma and settled onto the bed, shaking his head. He picked up his phone and dialed a number before pressing it against his ear, letting out a deep sigh.

"Come, I need you to show Gemma to her room," Kellan said into the phone before he disconnected it.

He looked up to see Gemma staring at him with a downtrodden expression, and he felt guilt gnawing at him in his chest. He didn't mean to hurt her, but something didn't feel right, and he knew he couldn't keep it to himself. He needed to figure out what was wrong on his own.

"Is everything ok?" Gemma asked, disappointment still evident in her eyes.

"Yes, I just need a minute to sort out my emotions," Kellan replied without looking up at her.

"Are you sure? I'm sorry if I did anything wrong," Gemma apologized, a sad expression settling on her face.

"You didn't do anything wrong. Rick will be here to show you to your room soon," Kellan spoke, an air of finality in his tone that made Gemma remain silent.
