Chapter Twenty-one

"What are you talking about? We didn't kill anyone," Thomson said, kneeling down.

"This is past twelve, and you're telling me that you didn't do anything," the policeman said, directing his flashlight to their faces once again, preventing them from seeing.

"We did nothing. Do you think that I'm going to call 911 if we are aware of what happened? Why are you accusing us of what we didn't do?" Thomson asked, closing his eyes due to the amount of light directed at his face.

They were both inside the car, and the car in the river was removed, revealing Mara's father's lifeless body.

As Mara saw her father, she forcefully opened the car door and ran to him.

Using his right hand, she started to beat him on his chest and shouted, "Wake up, Dad. Please wake up."

Thomson was also speechless.

However, the policeman put Mara back inside the car. Mara was already weeping. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"And you told me that nothing is going to happen to my father. Is that not what you
