Nineteen

Eira’s POV

Leaving Alpha Ryan’s Pack instantly became the tip of the iceberg as we continued running in the forest for another few hours until Carla and I were both exhausted and couldn't lift a paw anymore.

Amoux slowed down and waited for us for a few minutes then we continued galloping again until sunset.

I looked at the sky and saw how clear and dim it was. I was immediately able to tell that it was a full Moon night.

I glanced at Amoux too and saw that he was looking at the sky too. His gaze made me realize that he was thinking what I'm thinking and we didn't stop running anymore until we saw the Alpha King Symbol signboard up close.

I directly sat on my butt, exhausted from the long run.

I looked around and saw that my companions aren't faring better too.

When we entered the Deep Water, the werewolf guards at the pack instantly recognized their Beta’s wolf and allowed us in without a struggle.

We padded along with the Pack house with our heavy paws and headed towards the Alpha King’s house.

When we got there, Amoux howled loudly and someone came out of the house.

She was a tall brunette, she was also young. She shouldn't be more than 18 like me.

Is that his sister? Or someone living with them?

When the girl came out, she came with a few sets of clothes for Amoux to change into and looked at us as if she wasn't expecting us.

Amoux pointed his mouth to the house as if gesturing for us to enter the house with the girl.

Carla and I nodded then followed the girl back inside.

When we got inside, I was instantly disturbed by how silent and serene the whole house was.

Without the serenity, I could see that the house was beautiful and it was made of firm and expensive timbers and lots of expensive gemstones.

It really truly is the Alpha King's house.

The girl directed Carla and me to a room and kindly told us to freshen up then left to get us some clothes.

When the girl left, I heard the footsteps of someone coming downstairs and mumbling to another person.

Is that the Alpha King?

I instantly felt a rush of fear slip through me.

“Even when you see him, you should act as if you aren’t scared of him. Remember you are the healer, and he is the patient.”

I told myself repeatedly and quickly went inside the bathroom after Carla took a shower.

It was when we came out after we were fully dressed and refreshed that I knew that it wasn’t the Alpha King’s footstep I heard earlier but his Grand Gamma.

“Hi, I'm Dolphus Silentstar. The Grand Gamma.” A tall and handsome man stood up and introduced himself to Carla and me immediately as we got to the sitting room.

Amoux was also sitting graciously beside him.

“Hi, I'm Eira Ralph and this is my younger sister, Carla, ” I answered back with a smile.

“Hi, I'm Carla Ralph. Nice meeting you,” Carla replied with a smile.

I threw a gaze past the Grand Gamma and saw that Amoux flinched immediately as Carla smiled, but I looked away and pretended that I didn't see it.

“Thank you for making the long journey, Eira, you don't know how much this means to us, ” Dolphus confessed sincerely as he gestured for us to have a seat.

“It's my pleasure, ” I answered with a smile and followed his actions while sitting on the couch beside my sister.

“Since Amoux left, I haven't seen Reagan's face in this house. He locked himself inside the room as if he was already ready for death. I don't know what else to do since I feared that he might release his anger and depression on me. Thankfully you are here now, you can help check up on him before the full Moon fully waxes.” Dolphus started as if he had seen a messiah.

Wait, did he just ask me to go and see the Alpha King?

Alone?

He can't even go up and see him since Amoux left and now he's expecting me to go up there and see him!

Aren't they expecting too much from me?

I'm scared too, okay!

I smiled stiffly at Dolphus, “Am I the only one that will go upstairs?”

“Of course not, you will be going with Amoux here, he is the only one that can survive Reagan’s first attack,” Dolphus quickly replied and gently patted Amoux's shoulders.

I threw a gaze at Amoux and saw him frown slightly.

Are they joking with me?

It's only Amoux that can survive the Alpha King fist attack and they want me to go with him to see the Alpha King!

Aren't they overestimating me?

I looked back at Dolphus with a puppy look and quietly begged with my face.

Can't I postpone this?

“You don't have to worry much, Reagan doesn't hit females except she's a rogue,” Dolphus replied when he saw my puppy face.

I was about to heave a sigh of relief when I heard Amoux's voice.

“He threw Abigail out of his chambers, have you forgotten,”

I suddenly regretted accepting Amoux’s offer, I shouldn't have come.

What if he threw me out too?

I looked at Amoux and frowned at him but he wasn't looking at me. He was staring at Carla, who wasn't also looking at him but was looking up at the chambers of the Alpha King.

I looked away from the two of them and looked back at Dolphus.

“When can we go up there?” I asked.

It's better to get it over with.

If I'm gonna be thrown out, then I better get it over with and leave for my Pack.

I can't stay hidden like a chicken waiting to be eaten.

“You can go up as soon as Amoux is ready, ”

“Can I go up with them too?”

I heard Carla ask and turned around to look at her in shock.

Why did she want to go up there?

Isn't she scared that the mean and depressed Alpha King will send her flying?

“Miss Ralph, I'm afraid it's not advisable to go up there because I can't estimate what Reagan can do. So, I think only the healer and Amoux should go up there, ” Dolphus refused instantly.

After a while, Amoux stood up from the couch and walked towards the stairs. I quickly followed up after glancing at Dolphus who nodded and smiled at me.

I can do this! I told myself constantly till we reached the Alpha King’s chamber’s door.

I threw a gaze past Amoux and noticed that since we got to the Pack, he hadn't even smiled once.

Hopefully, this doesn't have to do with what happened at Alpha Ryan’s pack.

I watched quietly as Amoux knocked on the door and waited patiently for a reply.

“Who’s there, ”

I heard a low voice reply after a few minutes. The voice sounded so defeated and sharp.

“It's Amoux, can I come in?” Amoux answered back.

After a few minutes and we didn't hear any objection, Amoux opened the door and went into the chambers.

When we got inside, the stench of alcohol instantly assaulted my nostrils. I couldn't help but cover my nose a bit to reduce the awful smell of the room.

Apart from the stinking smell of alcohol, I also noticed that the room was pitch dark except for a lantern light on a desk that was a bit far from the bed.

“Who’s there with you?”

I suddenly heard the Alpha King ask and my heart skipped in fear.

“I brought someone to see you,” Amoux replied quietly after a while.

I couldn't help but shiver as I waited patiently for a reply from the Alpha King.

“Someone? A girl? Why would you bring a girl to see me? I'm not searching for my mate anymore. She’s died.”

I heard the Alpha King reply in a low voice that was filled with loneliness.

“She's not just any girl, she's the healer that Dolphus talked about that day,” Amoux replied.

That day?

What day?

I glanced at Amoux confused by his words.

They've talked about me before to the Alpha King?

“Oh, the miracle healer, yeah? Ahahaha”

I heard a throaty laugh come from the Alpha King.

Up till now, I haven't seen his facial features because of the little light in the room but I was definitely aware of how powerful he is because my legs haven't stopped shaking since we entered the chambers.

“Let her come forward then, let's see the infamous healer,” My heart skipped instantly as I heard the Alpha King's cold and indifferent voice.

Come closer?

Oh my goodness…

I felt my legs weaken.

Amoux threw a gaze at me and motioned for me to walk closer to the Alpha King’s sight.

That was when I knew that I had no choice but to move closer to the most dreadful and powerful Alpha in the world.

I walked towards him slowly until his facial features came into view.

When I saw his face, I felt a rush of attraction sweep through me.

Okay, he's handsome and younger than I expected.

I didn't expect him to be as young as Amoux and Dolphus but I realized that it was a stupid excuse from me because I knew that they were all agemates and Dolphus was the youngest.

There wasn't any wolf who hadn't heard of their legend.

They were the trio that could defeat and command any other werewolf to submit.

I was jolted out of my thoughts immediately when I heard the door slammed shut.

Did Amoux just leave me with the Alpha King?

Ahh!

I haven't even gathered my composure yet!!

What happened to the promise he made to my parents that he would protect me?

“Move closer,”

I heard the Alpha King’s cold voice in my head again and quickly moved closer to him.

It's better not to annoy him right now.

“Why are you here?”

“A-Amoux, sorry the Grand Beta brought me here to treat you,” I replied to the Alpha King as straightforwardly as I could.

“There's nothing you can do to heal me,” Reagan replied in a depressing but sharp voice.

I looked at the defeated Alpha King and couldn't help but get upset at his melancholy attitude.

His friends and comrades are looking for ways for him to be better but he was already so overthrown by all his crises.

He hasn't even died yet but looked like he already met death.

What if his mate died.

Does that mean that he had to die too?

He's alive for a reason but he couldn't even see it!

“I haven't even started and you already believed I can't heal you. If you don't want to be treated, just let me know.” I blurted angrily before I could control myself.

“Yes, I don't want to be treated. Leave me the hell alone,” Reagan retorted instantly.

Immediately after I heard the Alpha King's powerful and authoritative voice, I regretted my outburst.

I shouldn't have said that to him.

I shouldn't have even come here at all!

“Get out of my chambers,” The Alpha King shouted thunderously at me.
