chapter 2

Chapter two

Amelia could not take it anymore, “bastard, how dare you steal my proposal?” she shouted as she pointed her shaking finger at Logan.

She had forgotten that Anthony had poured water on her and she was in a sorry state. It was only after standing up did she realized that her clothes were clasped on her body. She looked down and saw that her skirt was soaked wet.

She was glad that she had won a black business suit or else, she did not know where she would have hidden her embarrassment.

In her moment of distraction, Logan’s voice sounded.

“What are you saying? I stole your proposal?” Logan inquired. His eyes carried a cold and mocking light as he looked at Amelia.

“That is right. Or else, why would every word you said sound exactly the same as what is in my proposal?” Amelia questioned.

“Ha ha Amelia, you have some cheek. You messed up this project and after I saved your ass, you want to claim credit? I have spent months working on this project although it was not even mine to begin with, what do you mean by your words?” Logan questioned.

He sounded so fearless that Amelia was taken aback. That was her proposal. How could she mistake something she has worked on and read over and over again for several months?

“That is my proposal!” Amelia insisted. She even forgot about the looming danger in the name of Oliver as her eyes turned red. Her entire career depended on this proposal, was she going to see it get destroyed just like that?

“What evidence do you have?” Logan pressed.

“Evidence?” Amelia inquired. She did not say anything as she opened the folder that Aria had handed her at the door. But to her horror, there was nothing in the folder and only plain papers. Amelia felt her heart stop beating for a short moment as she slumped on her chair with a defeated expression.

‘How could this be?’ The person that she trusted and thought that she could rely on had actually played such a joke on her? What had she done to deserve all these? She thought that she had find a nice person for once, but all of them were just the same.’ Amelia thought.

At this moment, she knew that she had been played and even if she had a thousand mouths, no one was going to believe her.

“Is this your so called evidence? Amelia, I have never thought that you are such an incompetent person. You actually carried blank papers to the meeting room? Where is your proposal?” Logan had already snatched the folder from Amelia and emptied all the contents on the table.

People had different expressions on their faces as they looked at Amelia and the blank pages on the table. They had felt sorry for her a moment ago but now, they looked at her with undisguised disgust.

“How capable.” Logan sneered.

“You, immediately leave this room and don’t let me see your face near this company again. Shameless!” Anthony was so angry that he immediately fired Amelia on the spot. It was true that he had thought highly of her and even praised her in front of Oliver.

He never imagined that she would embarrass him to such extent. People might even start thinking that something was truly going on between them given how highly he had praised her earlier before she arrived.

Amelia was in a daze as she left the meeting room. It had been like this five years ago. Whenever she tried holding onto something, she would loose it eventually. She left the meeting room because she knew that no matter what she said, no one would believe her and it would only make them feel disgusted with her even more.

Aria was still standing outside the door, pacing back and both with her hands folded on her chest. Hearing the meeting room door opening, she looked up and saw the miserable looking Amelia.

Amelia was also looking at her but her face did not hold any emotions. She did not what she was feeling inside.

She walked step by step until she stooped where Aria was standing, “why?” she asked. Her voice was very calm that even she was surprised. She had thought that she will scream at her and hit her the moment she saw her but, she was very calm.

“Amelia I…” Aria tried to say something but she could not even form a complete sentence.

“Have I ever treated you poorly? I picked you up from overseas when you were at your lowest, treated you like my sister and even almost crossed Anthony’s bottom line when I hired you as my assistant, have I ever wronged you?” Amelia asked.

She could feel tears threatening to fall from her eyes but she blinked hard to prevent it from coming out.

“I...” Aria opened her mouth but she could not say anything.

“Well done Aria, even a dog knows how to be thankful by wagging its tail, but as for you, I wish that karma finds you as soon as I leave this company.” Amelia said. She did not want to waste another second looking at this face or else she might find herself reaping it apart.

She walked hurriedly towards the office. She ignore all the peculiar gazes directed at her and picked up her handbag before leaving the company with her head held high. She has been in this company for one and a half years and if this project had gone through, she would have become the head of the department but now…

It was only after leaving the company gates did Amelia feel that all the energy in her body has been depleted. She hung her head as she walked without any sense of direction. There was a black Porsche speeding from the opposite direction and it was too late by the time Amelia and the driver reacted.

Screech… the sound of tires tearing on the ground was heard and the car came to an abrupt stop. The people in the car could not react in time as they were thrown forward.

There was a man in the backseat with an aristocratic aura. He had a laptop on his thighs and he seemed to be in the middle of a video conference. He sent the driver a chilling gaze and the driver felt so cold that he shivered.

“Sorry sir, I seem to have knocked into someone, I will go and take a look.” the driver spoke as he immediately alighted from the car.

“Tsk, this method of scamming money is way too outdated. Why aren’t people afraid of losing their lives?” there was another gorgeous man in the car who sneered. It seemed like it was not their first time encountering something like this.

“Sir, she is a young lady and she seem to have been hurt pretty badly. Should we send her to the hospital?” the driver knocked on the window and said.

“Just shake her a little and she will wake up. I wonder why her accomplices haven’t shown up yet.” the gorgeous man said.

“I have tried calling her but she is not responding. I am afraid this was just an accident because the lady doesn’t look too well.” the driver continued.

“To the hospital.” the man who had not said anything spoke up. His voice was cold and no emotions could be detected.

“Okay sir.” the driver nodded.

“Wait!”

“What is it Mr. Kai? The driver asked. The gorgeous man was called kai and the driver looked at him with a questioning gaze.

“Bro Axel, aren't you going to look at her? What if it is a trap and she just wants to scam more money from you?” Kai said looking at the cold man who sat unmoving in the car.

“To the hospital.”  the man named Axel repeated himself.

“Take the other car, Kai, drive.” he gave his order and no one dared to disobey.

“Yes sir.”

His assistant quickly waved to the car that had been following them from behind. It was the bodyguards’ car and after telling them what happened, one of them took the role of driving their boss back to the company while the assistant and others sent Amelia to the hospital.

Axel looked outside the window and he happened to see his assistant carrying a petite figure in his arms. She had long black hair that fall to her waist, and her face, he seemed to have seen it somewhere but he could not remember.

Before he could take a second look, the car had already whizzed past them, leaving only a cloud of dust.
