Chapter 4
Inside the ward at hospital T...
"You are awake?" A surprised voice startled Amelia out of her daze. She looked at the source of the voice and saw a young bubbly girl with a head full of green hair walking towards her.
She was surprised as she called out, "Chloe? Why are you here?" Amelia asked. The astonishment in her voice could not be hidden.
"If I hadn't come, you would probably be buried right now." Chloe said.
"What?"
"Nothing, I am just kidding. How are you feeling? I thought that I heard you scream earlier!" Chloe said, stopping beside the bed.
"I felt pain in my head. Wait, why are we in the hospital and what the hell happened to me?" Amelia asked. Looking at the drip on her arm and the small bed, she could deduce that this was the hospital.
Her head also felt heavy and when she touched it, she realized that she was covered in bandages.
"You were involved in a car accident. Girl, I have only been away for a few days and you are already in this state? Can't you make me worry a little less?" Although Chloe was reprimanding, her voice was gentle and filled with love.
"I am sorry. I was just having a bad day. I did not know that I will get myself into an accident. But it is not serious, is it?"
"Thank God you only have a light concussion, nothing serious." Chloe said.
"What happened? Did that bitch and bastard cause you trouble again?" Chloe asked. She was looking Amelia like she could not wait to cut someone into pieces right now.
"I... I was..."
"Miss, you are finally awake! Thank God, thank God you are awake." Before Amelia could say anything, an excited voice came through room.
Amelia looked over and confusion clouded her eyes. She turned to look at Chloe with a questioning gaze.
“He said he is the one who ran into you on the road. He brought you to the hospital and he has already taken care of everything.” Chloe answered.
“Oh.” Amelia nodded. She really had no recollection of what happened. She was feeling so down after leaving the company that she did not know that she had been knocked over by a car until she woke up in the hospital.
“Hey.”she said in a small voice to the man who was approaching.
“How are you feeling now? Do you feel any discomfort?” Peter asked, a small grin appearing on his handsome face.
“I am fine. Thank you for the trouble.” Amelia spoke.
“It is good that you are feeling fine. Although that is the case, the doctor said that you need to stay for at least two days just so to make sure that everything is alright.”
“I think that I feel fine. I don’t really like being in the hospital so, just let them discharge me already.” Amelia said as she looked at peter. He was donning a black suit with a white shirt inside. His neck was being hugged by a black bow-tie. He looked like a reliable person or else, he would have abandoned her on the road.
“You need to rest. My boss said that I should take care of you and make sure that you are okay, if not, I won’t be getting this month’s salary.” Peter said, sounding troubled by Amelia’s idea of being discharged immediately.
‘‘I am really fine. Tell your boss that I am grateful for all the help but I will be taking care of myself from now on.”
“Wait a minute, let me make a call.”Peter said and left the room with his phone.
Amelia looked on with puzzlement. She said that she is okay. Must he make a big deal out of it? Besides, she did not like owing others. She hated it most when someone was nice to her and she also knew that she was also at fault. If she had been a little careful, then this accident wouldn’t have happened in the first place.
“What the hell is wrong with him? didn’t I tell him that I am fine.” Amelia lamented, looking at Chloe who was standing beside the bed in silence.
“He is just doing his job. But you need to listen to the doctor and stay for a day if not two. We don’t know if you might have other complications apart from the concussion on your head.” Chloe said after thinking through.
“Just whose side are you on? Have you already been coaxed by the beautiful face?” Amelia asked as she looked at her best friend with a raised eyebrow.
The one thing among the many that Chloe loved in this world was beauty. She could throw all conscious in the wind when she sees a handsome or beautiful face and Amelia was well aware of that trait of hers.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Although Peter is handsome, he is not my time.” Chloe tried to explain herself.
“Oh Peter, I see. Thank you. I had forgotten to ask about his name just now.” Amelia said, looking at Chloe with a meaningful gaze.
“I am just worried about you, alright! Stop with the nonsense and listen to what the doctor has to say. Besides, he… he has already paid your hospital bill until two days later, you don’t want to waste that, do you?”
“okay, but just one day. Tomorrow I am out of here!” Amelia said.
Just as they finished talking, Peter came in. “My boss has said that you should not take your health lightly. You should listen to the doctor but don’t worry, all the bills and anything will be taken care of.”
“Help thank your boss for the trouble.” Amelia said in a polite voice. Since they have already put it that way, she did not want to seem as if she was unreasonable. There were a lot of things that she needed to think about and this might be the best time.
“Help me send my friend home. She has just come from a business trip and she might be exhausted.” Amelia spoke to Peter.
“I will stay. If I go, who will take care of you?” Chloe denied her request immediately.
“I can manage on my own. Besides, you need to rest. Come over tomorrow, I have a lot to tell you, alright!”
“Alright.” Chloe finally relented. “Get well sweetheart, I will come see you tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
After the two left, Amelia stared at the door in a daze. It was only after she felt her eyes sting that she looked away. But the moment she blinked, she remembered everything that had happened in the conference room and she could not prevent her tears from falling anymore.
…
When Axel finished looking at the documents, it was slightly past six o’clock. He moaned in exhaustion as he massaged his sore neck. He remembered something and immediately stood up, taking his coat and the car keys, he left the office in huge strides.
He tossed the keys to the bodyguard who has been guarding the door and went to the lift without stopping in his tracks. Everyone had already left the office and the whole building was eerily quite.
“Boss, where to?” the bodyguard in black asked as he started the car.
“To hospital T.” Axel said. He was a man of few words and would only talk when necessary, everyone around him was already used to it.
“Pass by a flower shop.” after thinking for a while, he ordered the driver. He thought that it won’t be so nice to visit a sick person empty handed.
At the hospital…
Axel carried the huge bouquet of blue roses as he made his way to the private ward where Amelia had been admitted.
He knocked on the door but seeing that no one was answering, he slightly pushed the door open and entered.
He saw that Amelia was lying on the bed and she was curled up like a ball. It was slightly dark in the room but not to the extent of preventing someone from seeing well. Axel did not switch on the lights as he walked over the bed on light steps.
He looked at her for a while and seeing that she was sleeping rather soundly, he did not disturb her. He put the blue roses on the bedside cabinet, after thinking for a while, he left his business card and a written note on top of the small cabinet beside the flowers.
Chapter 5When Amelia woke up the following morning, it was close to dawn. She was actually shocked that she has slept so well. She thought she would have trouble falling asleep. Before she fell asleep, she seemed to feel a magnificent presence in the room and after it left, it was only then did she fall asleep completely. She woke up and went to the bathroom, her head still feeling light from the sleep although the pain had stopped a lot. When she came back, she switched on the lights and the huge bouquet of blue roses caught her eyes.‘Wow, aren’t they a little too beautiful? Amelia thought as she walked over. Although they had stayed the whole night there, they seemed to be full of life as they glistened under the lights.‘Who would bring me flowers? Not a lot of people knew that I was in the hospital, could it be that…?’ Amelia thought as she walked over to the small cabinet, a small spark of hope in her heart. She picked up the flowers and sniffed them, they were still smelling j
Chapter 6 Amelia came back to her senses when she heard the voice. She opened her eyes which were wet with tears and was stunned when she found herself hugging a strange man. “What the…?” she wanted to swear but she shut her mouth just as the words were about to reach her tongue. She peered up and struggled to move away from the man. The man did not make things difficult for her and let go of her immediately. He took a step back and maintained a safe distance between them. Amelia stared at the man who was standing before her. Her eyes traveled from his head when she saw his handsome face, astonishment flashed through her eyes. She has always been proud of her aesthetic taste as she has always thought that Oliver was a cut above the rest, but the man before her, his handsome face was heaven-defying. She averted her eyes as she swallowed a huge chunk of saliva without noticing. But soon after, she peered at him again. Her eyes went down and saw the mess that she has done on his bla
Chapter 7 After crying again, Amelia felt much better. “Help me to the bathroom,” she said to Chloe who was looking at her with a worried gaze. She has been feeling out of place but seeing her best friend who has always been there for her no matter what, she did not feel like dying anymore. There was a statement that was now ringing in her mind continuously. She heard someone say it to her this morning, ‘I won’t permit you to die just yet. You still have a lot to accomplish.’ Although she felt that at this stage in life she had nothing to accomplish, her heart felt explicitly at peace when she recalled those words. Amelia stayed in the shower for so long that Chloe started to worry. “Have you drowned in the bathtub?” she asked towards the bathroom. “I will be out in a minute,” Amelia shouted back. “The doctor is waiting.” “Alright.” After taking a long shower, she felt so much better. She felt that she had returned to the realm of mortals after dangling at the gates of hell.
Chapter 8 After Peter sent Amelia and Chloe home, he rushed to the company. He knew that people talk about his boss and that there were all kinds of rumors out there, but what Chloe said, wasn’t that slightly over the top. “Did you send her home?” Axel asked when he saw Peter entering his office. Peter had informed him that Amelia wanted to be discharged and there was nothing he could do to keep her in the hospital so, he had ordered Peter to send her home and make sure that she was safe. “Yes, boss,” Peter answered. He was looking at his boss unsure of where to begin. He did not know if he had the right to ask whether he had stopped by the hospital or tell him everything that he had heard. His boss seemed to have a good impression of the young lady. How will he feel if he knew how they perceived him? Peter shuddered at the thought of his boss flaring up and did not dare think about it anymore. “What is it? If you have something to say, just say it already or you can see yoursel
Chapter 9 Axel has never been one to leave the office until it was at least eight in the evening. But today, he could not concentrate no matter what so, when the time clocked seven, he gave up trying to read the documents and left with his coat hanging on his shoulders. He liked to drive himself in the evening because it helped clear his head. Sitting in his black Porsche, he drove out of the company. He always has a habit of driving around the city and today was no different. Axel drove around the city aimlessly, clearing his mind and letting his thoughts wander all over the place. By the time he came back to his senses, he was standing outside an unfamiliar door and knocking on it. Amelia was in deep sleep when she heard someone knock on her door. She thought that she was dreaming so, she turned around and continued to sleep but the person knocking was persistent. She woke up with a start and when she looked at the time on her phone, she was shocked that it was almost eight in
Chapter 10 “So, where did you meet sis?” Layla asked. She was not about to let him off the hook. “I had gone for a business meeting to talk about a proposal with one of our partners. I only found out that she works there when she entered the meeting room.” Oliver said. He did not want Layla to misunderstand anything so he simply explained. “How is she? Did you two meet and talk afterward?” “No. She was fired even the before the meeting ended.” Oliver said in a careless tone. He really seemed not to care about Amelia making Layla secretly sigh in relief. Although she was happy on the inside, she did not let it show on her face. She put on an appropriate worried expression and looked at Oliver. “What? Is she alright? Why would she be fired?” Layla widened her eyes in shock as she asked. “She did not do her work properly and ended up offending her boss, so she was fired,” Oliver said. Thinking about the blank papers and Amelia making a fool out of herself in the meeting room, his
Chapter 11 It has been one week since Amelia was discharged from the hospital. The bandage on her head had been removed and she could say that she had fully recovered. Apart from Chloe and Peter, no one else had visited her. Chloe came almost every day and Peter would come once in a while. She was cooped up in her house and rarely went out. Since Axel came the day she was discharged, she has not heard from him again. Today was her last check-up and she was currently sitting in the doctor’s office awaiting her medical report. Chloe was by her side as always, munching on the watermelon that the doctor had given them. “You really have some guts, don’t you?” Amelia asked, looking at her friend who was chewing like a squirrel. “What?” Chloe looked at her with a confused gaze. “How can you eat in a hospital like it is a restaurant? I can’t even breathe out loud with all the mixed smell of medicine, but look at you.” As they were still arguing, the doctor came back. “Miss Lightwood,
Chapter 12 Amelia was staring at the man, not knowing what to say. Finally having a closer look at him, she realized just how good-looking he was. His face was flawless, not a single spot could be seen, his eyebrows were neither thin nor thick, and his eyes were deep and mysterious. It was as if he could see through anyone just with a single glance. His nose was sharp and straight. It was perfectly situated on his handsome face, enhancing his ethereal beauty. His lips were thin. They had a pinkish color and coupled with his light skin, he looked like a supermodel. She swore in her heart that if this man was to become a celebrity, everyone will have no choice but to bow to him. Amelia was lost in her thoughts as she looked at the man. It was not until she heard a deep chuckle that she realized just how close they were. They were so close that their breath seem to intertwine. With the clacking sound of the partition, her heart also drummed in her chest. She hurriedly looked away as
