second chance

"She hasn't called yet??

"No, she hasn't" he sighed

"You really don't need to get worked up yet, there's every possibility she didn't call her first before calling you" she really wished what she was saying was true

It's always once in a month or twice in a month he and his daughter always have this issue and his mother would always be the one to trigger it.

Jess sometimes thinks the mother usually do it on purpose.

"I've told my mom to stop being stubborn about it, I wouldn't let Tiana have anything reasonable to do with her" he paused

"Even till she dies"

"That's too much for you to say I think" she paused and looked at his face. She wanted to see his reaction to the statement she made.

She noticed he didn't look irritated nor angry so she decided to continue.

"I really don't know what your mom might have done but I still think you should give her a second chance to redeem things" she waited for a response and it was like it wasn't coming

"If she at least can't redeem things with you, give her a chance with Christiana"

"You know that's never happening" he blurted out

"Second chance sir" she looked at his face as she said that

" I find it funny that you're pleading for who you don't even know" he stood up and walked towards the window

"I really don't need to know her. I can tell she's trying to fix whatever she has done wrong in the past"she stood up too and started walking towards him

"And you're not ready to let go of the past"

"I can't because that's exactly where my life is"

Jess halted.

He turned towards Jess "I'm sorry for raising my voice at you"

"Y'all wouldn't understand"that came out almost as a whisper

"Then make us understand, is doing that so hard for you"

"It's not as easy as...."

"It's has never been easy, for you, your daughter or even your mother I can tell" she was slightly raising her voice

"Alright" she tried to calm her worked up self

"I understand that I'm not your family, you can decide not to tell me all" she held his hands as she was saying this

"But at least consider your daughter, leaving her in the dark wouldn't do her any good, don't ruin the beautiful relationship you have with her " she said with genuine concern rooted in her voice.

"You're like family to me and you know that" he felt he was trying to reassure her if she's thinking he didn't value her as much as she values him.

"Whatever decision you're making consider your daughter, you've been acting on your emotions for 20 years now"

"Perhaps it's time you consider how your daughter feels with all that's going on" she turned back to the table picked up the file and headed to the door.

"You talk about second chance but Fidelia couldn't get that second chance" his voice shook as he said this

Jess halted as she heard that statement.

That name brought back some memories for her also.

"Who's Fidelia?" She turned sharply

"Nevermind" He wasn't ready to go down into details right now

Jess left his cubicle without saying another word. Some people are more hard to crack than nuts.
