Why me?

Daisy Hunter opens the door of her office, immediately she meets face to face with her boss Wade Roberto.

"Daisy, I was actually coming to meet you at your office." His voice was barely above whispers.

"Okay, I was actually bringing the paperwork of Mr Chan Lee for you to sign."

Daisy said, her voice laced with bewilderment.

As they walked through the corridor, the chandelier's light shimmered through the entire corridor flooding the whole corridor with a touch of grandeur.

"You can have a seat Daisy." The voice of Wade Roberto was almost mellifluous as he pointed at the plush leather seat.

Staring askance at Wade Roberto, Daisy Hunter only wondered why her boss brought her into his office and asked her to sit.

"Daisy!"

Wade Roberto called out as he threw a file on the table, causing Daisy Hunter to shudder.

"What is this sir?" Daisy Hunter asked as she stared at the file in bewilderment.

"C'mon open it and see for yourself." Wade Roberto said persuasively.

Picking up the file, she opened it and stared askance at the white document.

"A Contract marriage?" Daisy Hunter blurted in bewilderment.

"Yes, Daisy, a contract marriage, I want you to help me secure my position as the new CEO of Roberto's Luxury Empire, and in return, I will make you a billionaire overnight."

His voice was vehement and dripping with persuasion.

The situation was intense as Daisy Hunter gazed at her boss, her mouth agape.

"You aren't serious, are you?" Daisy Hunter asked, her voice laced with trepidation.

"I am really serious, Daisy Hunter, you have always been my loyal Secretary…please I really need this." Wade Roberto's voice was still persuasive.

"Of all the ladies out there and in the office, why did you choose me?" Her voice was barely above whispers.

"I have been with you for quite some time and I believe you will make the perfect fit." Wade Roberto said as he sank into his seat.

His eyes were laced with emotions.

"Sir, You and I know that I am engaged to your friend, Seth Nathaniel…you wouldn't expect me to leave him, would you?"

She asked as she stared askance at Wade Roberto.

"Of course not…but judging from the money involved I think you can…you know, make some adjustments." His voice was laced with authority.

The room was becoming claustrophobic, each passing moment stretching like an eternity.

"I really don't think so sir, I have a fiance and I know he would be really mad if I even mentioned this to him."

Daisy Hunter said, her voice was barely above whispers.

"You know what Daisy, I will leave the offer open to you…think of the whole lot of things you can do with twenty billion dollars."

Wade Roberto's voice was laced with concern.

"I mean…your Dad can be the founder and CEO of the great Hunter's Empire, but imagine the feeling of knowing that you turned a billionaire without Daddy's help."

With that said, Wade Roberto dismissed Daisy Hunter.

As she left, Wade Roberto crossed his legs on the mahogany and smirked.

"Daisy Hunter will come around, I'm certain of it." He whispers to himself.

Moments later….

Daisy Hunter is packing her bags to retire home.

Stepping out the door was Wade Roberto,"Daisy Hunter, remember it's twenty billion dollars."

He muttered and blew kisses in the air and left the office.

Daisy Hunter stared askance at him as her thoughts raced.

'Why did Wade Roberto choose me out of all the ladies at the office?'

'Why would he be offering such a huge amount of money for a two year marriage contract?'

This and many more thoughts raced through the mind of Daisy Hunter as if she had stepped into a convoluted maze with no clear path forward.

The weight of Wade Roberto's proposition settled like a heavy fog in her mind, obscuring her thoughts and clouding her vision of the future.

Each step she took towards her car felt like a shuffle through an intricate puzzle, with no discernible solution in sight.

The air outside was crisp, a stark contrast to the suffocating atmosphere of the office.

Daisy stood beside her car, the file still clutched tightly in her hand, its weight a tangible reminder of the choice laid before her.

Twenty billion dollars, a sum that could rewrite her life's narrative in a single stroke, yet its acquisition tethered to a morally tangled web.

'This is no way Seth Nathaniel would allow me to do this...unless we could use the money to pay off the investors that are threatening to leave MetaX, his late father's company.'

Daisy Hunter's thoughts raced as she stepped into her black sedan SUV.

"I need to talk to Allison Melody before I even make my decision."

Daisy Hunter muttered to herself as she swerved the car towards her home.

Stepping out the door, she jams her door, the alarm system of the car reverberating through the whole neighborhood.

Walking up the stairs to her apartment, her phone rang.

'My Love' The phone displayed.

"Hello Seth." Daisy Hunter's voice is mellifluous as she walks up the stairs to her apartment.

"Hi Daisy, how was your day at the office?" Seth Nathaniel said, his voice barely above whispers.

"Great! Today was splendid…what about yours." Her voice was laced with curiosity.

"Today was good, just the usual, my late dad's board of trustees and investors are still threatening to leave the company." His voice was laced with trepidation.

"I'm planning to call in bankruptcy on MetaX, I have really tried and…"

Seth words hitched in his mouth as tears wells down his eyes.

"Seth! Are you crying?"

Daisy Hunter asked, her voice laced with a mixture of trepidation and concern.

"Seth, it's going to be okay, don't call in bankruptcy on your late dad's company yet."

Daisy's voice was barely above whispers yet laced with hope.

"I will come over to your house by tomorrow, I think I might have found a way to fix our problem."

Daisy said as she stared in bewilderment at her door.

"Seth, I will call you back, I think someone is inside my room." Her voice was laced with trepidation and anxiety.

Before Seth Nathaniel could say a word, Daisy Hunter ended the call.

Her heart raced, Beads of sweat built down her cheeks as she walked slowly towards her door.

Pushing the door, it creaks open slowly.
