Chapter 2

The couple made small talk as they drove, Alec asked about the friend Eden was walking with. She told him her name was Astrid, and they had been friends since high school.

After about 20 minutes the couple arrived in front of the Hollywood sign and since it was evening, the sign was lit up. Eden had always wanted to go but never had time. You'd be thinking, she lives in LA and the sign is always there, or 'who hasn't been to the Hollywood sign living in LA?’ Eden.

Also, Eden was from Canada, she's studying in LA on a scholarship, so she hasn't been here all her life. Moving from Canada was a little hard for her, it's been a year, and she was doing okay. She met Alec 4 months in, and he taught her so much.

Eden also had a cousin in Korea who taught her everything there was to know about living here so Eden's move wasn't the most difficult thing. She could thank Eric, her cousin, for that.

Eden was a Law major and a business major; she always thought of working in the business world and having her own company.

"Well?" Alec said as he held Eden's hand, Eden turned and hugged Alec like he had given her the greatest gift.

"It's not that big of a deal babe." Alec said with a laugh and hugged her back.

"Everything you do for me is a big deal. You know I never had time to see the sign and now you brought me here, you're amazing." Eden had her arms around her lover and looked at him with stars in her eyes.

"You mean absolutely everything to me Eden, and I promsie I will do whatever it takes to keep you happy. You literally lit up my world when you came into my life, and for that, I am eternally grateful to you." Alec said with so much love in his eyes. He meant every word, Eden was his whole world.

"You too Alec. I was so lost when I came to LA, but then I met you and I was a little less scared. So thank you too, for everything." Eden said wrapping her arms around Alec and hugging him tight.

The two spent a couple of hours at the top watching the city lights and seeing the stars. It was perfect. Alec never told Eden what he did for a living to be earning big money, but Eden knew he'd tell her when he felt right, she trusted him. The two had been together for 4 months now, they were friends before that but never made their relationship official.

It was almost midnight and Alec dropped Eden off at home at her apartment. Eden had invited the other to come in, but Alec declined saying he had some work he needed to do. So, with a final kiss, Eden exited the white vehicle and waved goodbye to Alec as she headed to the doors of her apartment complex.

The two had been together for 4 months, as mentioned before, and they couldn't be happier. Sure, the secret of Alec's job remained but for good reason. Apart from that, they really didn't have secrets, they trusted each other, we're loyal, respectful and everything one should be in a relationship.

Relationships aren't one-sided. Eden was sure she was close to falling in love with Alec, as was Alec with Eden. She didn't trust easily, so it took a few months to even become friends with him. And along the way, they fell. Like that saying, Alec fell first, but Eden fell harder.

A sudden ringing noise broke Alec out of thought as he looked to see his boss and best friend calling.

"What's up boss?" Alec answered

"You alone?" Malakai asked and Alec replied that Eden just left now, and he was alone.

"I have a job for you. Some people want some other people killed, y'know, the usual. This is an easy job; it won't be too difficult at all. Also $500,000. What do you say?" It was midnight but that was the best time for murder. And the money sounded great.

"Deal. Why?" Malakai's jaw clenched, another one of his rules; don't ask questions, unless he told himself.

"I know I'm not supposed to ask but you sometimes tell me, even if not always." Alec followed up, the last thing he wanted was an angry Kai. Because an angry Kai would make nightmares look like dreams about rainbows. And Kai let this one slide since Alec was his best friend.

"The people laundered money from his company, but also sent their daughter undercover to dig up dirt on them to bring them down. They found out but it was a little too late since they had information that could bring the company down and they're threatening to release it tomorrow morning." Malakai explained and Alec smirked. Rich people just never want to get their hands dirty.

"Except they'll never see the morning come. Is it the whole family or...?"

"Yeah, it's only the parents and daughter's an only child. If you ask me, it's just stupid rich people shit, our job is to kill and gain." Kai said with a shrug, he could care less why people wanted others dead.

"You're stupidly rich Kai." Alec said with an airy laugh and Malakai just smirked, Alec could practically hear it through the phone.

"I don't do stupid rich people shit though." Was his answer.

"Don't worry boss, the family will be dead by morning, they won't even see the sun rise." Alec was about to end the call until he looked right and saw Eden standing at the window.

"The family will be what?" Eden asked and Alec knew he fucked up. He looked down and saw Eden's phone on the seat which she must've come back for.

She had a look of shock on her face but also denial? And betrayal.

"Eden..." Alec breathed out, and then he heard Kai let out a little laugh.

"Hate to say I told you so but... I told you so. Good luck." And Kai hung up.
