Chapter 0004

I took slow, steady steps back towards the front. Already feeling nervous as I took small steps forward when the scent of cedar invaded my senses mixed with the rain.

A wolf! I haven't caught the scent of a damn wolf in years. My palms became clammy as my heart raced but I thanked my lucky stars that the scent wasn't his, wasn't Timothy's.

Luckily I took scent dampeners so whomever it was hopefully they won't be able to scent me. Fear still gripping at the thought of this being someone to bring me back there I knew I still needed to be extra careful.

"Hello? I'm sorry, I was just trying to get out of the rain is anyone here?"

"Yes, sorry."

I stepped through the door, seeing the man standing by the door soaked from head to toe as his eyes looked in my direction, I tried to look away so he wouldn't realise I could see him just fine.

"I was checking the breaker but I guess the whole block is out of power. I can offer you some coffee before it gets cold if you would like. Let me grab you a towel, please, have a seat."

"Thank you, so much, I appreciate it."

I grabbed my phone then turned on the flashlight as I grabbed a couple towels then a cup of coffee before bringing them over to him as he sat in a booth.

"Sorry, but umm... Maybe sit on a stool by the counter, away from those windows, that thunder is shaking them." -

He nodded before standing up as he came to where I was standing behind the counter as I held out the towel to him.

"Are you hungry at all? I don't have much but I made this before the power went out, we can share."

"Are you sure? I wouldn't want to steal your lunch."

"It's okay with me."

Grabbing a plate I split my food in half then slid the plate to him before I put mine in front of me.

"This is delicious, I love the chips."

"Thanks, I made them yesterday afternoon."

"You made the chips? Do you cook here or wait tables? Wait, are you working here alone right now?"

I swore that I recognized his voice when I realised he could truly be here to find me. I tried to breathe evenly as the realisation hit me that I was alone here, with a wolf.

"I do both, my boss left a little bit ago because we were dead so I'm here for the next hour alone."

"Well, if you made chips like this, I can only imagine how well you make other things. I really appreciate you sharing this with me, I'm glad I came in."

I smiled nervously when I looked up to see him taking a bite of his food. I hadn't taken a good look at him because I was trying to avoid eye contact so he wouldn't see that I too was a wolf.

Looking at him now it smacked me in the face hard when Shayna howled nervously.

'It's a warrior from a nearby pack, we went to school together!'

'What the hell is he doing here!? How did he find us? Crap, what was his name again?'

'He didn't yet, but we need to take our pills, and soon before he scents us, if he does we are royally screwed.'

I swallowed deeply as I looked back down to avoid him from seeing me properly, maybe being so thinned out as well as five years older is helping me put from being recognized but I had to remain calm, if he hears my heart thundering in my chest he could get suspicious.

I should have known, known that one day they would find me considering who my father is, wolves are going to recognize me.
