CHAP 24

"Thank you," Jairon said as he sat on my side.

We are here now in the garden of their house, sitting while looking at the stars and the shining moon.

"For what?" I looked at him with one eyebrow raised.

He didn't look at me; instead, he just stared at the night sky as his lips formed a little smile. "If it wasn't for what you did, I might not be with my sister now," he said.

I took a deep breath and also looked at the sky. "Anyone would do what I did if they were in my position," I said softly.

There was a moment of silence between us. I could clearly hear the chirping of crickets.

"That's when I fully understood your feelings." He paused again.

I looked at him slowly. He forced a smile, then glanced at me.

"Your pain, your hatred, your regrets."

I was stunned for a moment and looked away. I was speechless because I didn't know what I should say at this time.

"I really understand now the fear of losing anyone."

I smiled bitterly and stared at the moon. "It hurts to lose a loved one,"
