Chapter 1

"Mr. Slater, Angela is here."

Damien Slater immediately turned away from his partner who was talking to him. He was about to walk away.

Damien's wife, Theresa Schumann, stopped him and asked, "Where are you going? You shouldn't be so rude."

"Let go." Damien shook off Theresa's hand and left the banquet hall.

Theresa's face turned pale. Angela Malone was Damien's first love.

Today, the Slater Group hosted a business dinner at the largest hotel in Los Angeles to promote its new line of clothing. Almost half of the famous families in Los Angeles had been invited.

The guests at the dinner party were having pleasant conversations, and no one seemed to notice anything unusual about Damien.

At the same time, Angela was walking into the garden outside the dining hall with a strange man and their arms entwined.

When Damien saw Angela with the man, his face turned sullen. He stepped forward, grabbed Angela's arm, and walked out.

He didn't care about the reaction of the man next to Angela at all.

Being dragged into the venue by Damien, Angela said in a coquettish voice, "Stop it. You're hurting me."

"Who is that man? Are you dating him?" Damien turned around and stared at Angela.

"How's that possible?" said Angela, aggrieved. She then continued, "You're the only one I care for. I beg him to bring me to this event because I know you'll be here."

"Stay away from him. You know I hate it when other men are near you." Damien sounded possessive.

Angela looked at Damien and said gently, "Are you mad? I did so because I missed you so much."

Damien's face softened a little, and he said in a low voice, "If you call me, I'll go see you right away."

Theresa followed Damien and overheard his conversation with Angela.

Theresa was stunned since Damien had never spoken so gently to her.

Angela glanced at Theresa, who was standing behind Damien, and said suggestively, "What if I want to see you tonight?"

"Then I'll be with you tonight. I'll be with you the entire night." Damien stroked Angela's cheek with his hand gently.

Theresa's heart ached, and she felt her eyes sore.

She held back her tears and called out softly, "Damien, your mother said she wanted us to go back early tonight."

"Leave me alone!" without turning back, Damien said impatiently. "Stop lying to me with such an excuse. You know I don't want to see your face."

Damien's indifferent tone tore Theresa's heart into pieces. She clenched the glass in her hand.

"How can you talk to Theresa like that?" Angela looked at Damien. Though it sounded like she was reproaching him, her eyes gave her away. She wasn't blaming him at all.

She then said to Theresa in a soft voice, "Theresa, you got us wrong. Let's go for a walk, and I'll explain everything to you."

Before Theresa could say no, Angela took her arm and walked away from Damien.

Theresa and Angela came to the fountain, where there were fewer people. Then Theresa shook off Angela's hands and asked, "What do you want exactly?"

"Leave Damien. He doesn't love you at all," Angela sneered.

"If he loved you that much, why did he marry me?" Theresa replied calmly.

Angela, with an immediate look of disdain, said, "Damien was seriously injured three years ago, and he might be paralyzed. So, he didn't want me to live with a man like that. He didn't marry me because he cared deeply about me. He married you because you were his carer."

Somehow, what Angela said was the truth. Theresa looked a little embarrassed.

Theresa said stubbornly, "Say whatever you like. He is now my husband."

"Indeed. But he is in love with me. Did you not hear what he just said to me? He wouldn't even look at you. I don't know what you are trying to hold on to, but trust me, I'll make him leave you," Angela sneered.

"What do you mean?" Theresa looked at Angela warily.

Theresa took a step back.

Angela smiled sinisterly, and then suddenly, she fell sideways into the fountain.

Then, a high-pitched scream came from the fountain.

Immediately, a woman shouted, "Theresa, what are you doing?"

Everyone at the dinner party was stunned when they heard the splash of water.

Then, they all rushed to the fountain.

Theresa froze there. The staff struggled to help Angela out of the water, who was soaked to the skin.

Damien quickly pushed his way through the crowd and threw his suit jacket over Angela.

"Have you lost your mind?" Damien shouted at Theresa.

"Don't blame her. She pushed me because she was so furious," Angela said weakly, leaning into Damien's arms.

Theresa's eyes widened at her words.

She noticed that Damien's gaze had become terrifying as he was staring at her.
