Chapter 6

"OK. You shall have your time."

Theresa turned and walked towards her room. She thought, 'Now that I'm back, let's wait and see whether you get to continue to live here or not.'

Late at night, the Schumann's estate finally quieted down.

After Theresa finished taking a shower and drying her hair, she changed her clothes and went to her parents' room. On the table, there was a picture of them. Her father was handsome, and her mother was beautiful and with a bit of manliness.

Theresa's eyes were moist as she approached and touched their photo. She choked as she said, "Mom, Dad, I'm back."

Her parents passed away three years ago.

That year, she was 23 years old. Her parents planned to visit the person who had saved her a few years ago in Los Angeles.

But they never came back.

Theresa refused to believe that they were dead, but the forensics confirmed the result.

Theresa reminisced about her life with her parents and fell asleep holding their picture frame.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Damien had just picked Angela back from the hospital.

On the way back, he received a call from his assistant.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Slater. I didn't find Theresa's whereabouts."

Damien said angrily, "Seriously? Not even a clue?"

The assistant trembled on the other end of the line and reported tentatively, "But Theresa is indeed from the countryside, and her parents died from illnesses."

Damien's expression turned cold. He thought, 'Maybe I was overthinking.'

Angela sat next to Damien and sighed, "Theresa left without taking anything. She is quite a character, isn't she?"

Damien frowned, and a hint of disdain flashed through his mind.

That quiet and silent woman's face appeared in his mind. He thought, 'Maybe she just wants me to think she's special.'

"Mr. Slater, I've arranged for someone to look for her at Saint Francis."

"No, forget it," Damien said indifferently. "We are getting divorced, and I'm sure she will show up again. I am not interested in where she is now."

The next day, Theresa woke up, feeling much better.

She stepped out in high heels, looking refreshed.

In the afternoon, she appeared at the door of the courthouse in Los Angeles.

She thought, 'Seriously? Damien, we're getting a divorce, and you're late for this?' She just wanted things to be done, so she didn't dwell on that. When she saw Damien approaching from a distance, she immediately turned and headed into the courthouse.

They agreed to a divorce, so they skipped the trial.

They were two singles again after stepping out of the courthouse.

Damien handed a check to Theresa.

Theresa shook her head with a sneer.

"Are you sure you don't want it? I hope you think it through. If you come to me when you're down and out, I won't give you a penny," Damien said impatiently.

"A million dollars, Damien. You don't have to give me this if your company is not doing well," Theresa said sarcastically.

Damien was enraged. "Do you think I will give you more by doing this? Stop fantasizing! Theresa, you are only worth this much!"

"Mr. Slater, please control yourself. There's no need to flow into a rage out of humiliation." Theresa didn't bother to argue with him.

She turned around and was about to leave.

Damien reached out and grabbed Theresa's arm. "Angela had a fever for two days after falling into the water. Don't you feel any remorse?"

Theresa looked at Damien in front of her quietly and felt a bit sorry for him, but she felt even more sorry for herself.

"What do you think I should do then?" Theresa asked back.

"You should apologize to Angela and take care of her until she recovers," Damien said seriously. "If you have any conscience left at all."

Theresa suddenly laughed and said, "Mr. Slater, don't worry. I will prepare a gift to express my apologies to Angela."

Then, Theresa shook off Damien's hand and made her way out, into the sunshine.

Damien noticed that Theresa seemed to have lost a lot of weight as he watched her walk away.

Yet soon, he looked away.

He didn't think such a ruthless woman was worth caring about.

He thought, 'I was almost paralyzed three years ago. Theresa did take care of me, and she pleased my mother.

If it weren't for the incident a few days ago, I might pity her and let her stay in this family.

Yet she dared to hurt Angela!

It was not acceptable, and I will not tolerate it.'

Theresa caught the next flight and left Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, a video that came out of nowhere caused a great uproar online.
