The King was the most resilient among them all, as he maintained his calm and gait attitude throughout the Prince’s words. The only time he reacted was when the Prince cut him off initially.
He silently watched and listened as the Prince talked without telling him to stop.
However, as the Prince kept talking, he began questioning the reason behind his action.
He knows his son too well to know that he would not do something of this nature publicly if it were not of great importance.
When the Prince finished talking, salience befell the entire court as everyone waited in great anticipation for the King’s reaction.
The silence elongated for a few minutes before the King finally cleared his throat, thereby breaking the silence.
Everyone inhaled sharply as they watched the King slowly stand up from his throne and walk with unbothered steps toward the Prince.
Two things crossed their mind at that moment.
The first was…
Oh no, the Prince is in trouble.
He had succeeded in getting the King angry.
The other was…
A war is about to break out between the father and son.
Who is bold enough to stop them?
Will this be the beginning of internal strife among the Royals?
What will happen to the Kingdom from now on?
Will both of them be able to solve the issue without being hostile toward each other?
“Tell me, son, why do you think so?” The King asked inquisitively, stopping in front of the Prince. There was no sign of anger in his voice; all there was curiosity.
“Father, from my observation, she does not have the prowess to do what she was accused of, and if she truly was involved in it, she could not have carried out the whole operation on her own without someone working in the dark. This is a good opportunity to smoke them out and deal with them once and for all.” The Prince said the last part as quietly as possible so it would be for the King’s ears alone.
Raising his brows, the King stared at his son with blatant mockery before saying, “from what I’ve also observed, I know that ever since this young lady joined us, you have been hostile towards her and would not want to see her anywhere near you. That is an obvious fact to everyone in the Palace, and with your personality, you are not one to do this, much less do it to defend one who gets you irritated at every sight. So tell me, son, what is the actual reason why you stepped out to defend her when no one was willing to?”
Everyone at the court held their breath at the King’s words and anxiously waited for the Prince to respond.
The silence elongated briefly before the Prince sighed quietly and said, “Not long after she came, I…I found out that she… she is… she is my mate.” After saying this, he avoided the King’s gaze.
However, the minute he completed his sentences, gasps were heard from every corner of the court.
The silence this time around was more deafening than the previous ones. The shock was evident in the air.
It took a while before the King finally broke the silence by saying, “Son, are you certain that she is your mate?”
Returning his gaze to look at the King, “Yes I am, Father.”
The King stared at his son for a while before he signaled one of the guards to step forward.
“Get her cleaned up and send her back to the dungeon. Also, send the healer to check her wounds and treat them.”
The guard bowed and moved to help the girl to her feet.
As the guard was about to do so, the earlier Elder rushed forward and stopped him.
“Your majesty, if I may, we cannot ignore her crimes and allow her to go scot-free because she is the Prince’s mate. She was caught in the act, caught red-handed, my King. Hence, now more than ever, she must be brought to justice. She needs to be made an example that even if one is of the Royal family, they will not be let off easily.” The minute he finished his words, the courtroom burst into murmurs.
Everyone present started voicing out their opinions in the pretense of murmuring to each other.
No one had the guts to voice it aloud as the Elder had.
They didn’t dare to confront the King as the Elder had. All they could do was murmur underneath their voices to each other.
However, though they were like that, the Elder had succeeded in agitating and influencing the court against the King’s decision to send the girl back to the dungeon without finalizing her punishment nor sentencing her like they had hoped the King would before the arrival of the Prince.
He would not allow anyone to stop the execution of the girl.
Even though it has become more complicated, it doesn’t matter to him. He must make sure that she doesn’t escape this trial.
Even though the Prince says she is his mate, he has to ensure she gets put away; if not, things will get even more complicated.
Their secrets might eventually be exposed.
Though she had no idea of his involvement in the plan, she still knew some things concerning the plans that might jeopardize everything.
Now that he had succeeded in agitating the crowd, he needed to make his stand to the King on executing the girl and not letting her be sent back to the dungeon because he knew that once she was sent back, it would be hard to bring her back to face the trial and further investigations will be put in place.
Hence, he adjusted his coat and maintained a fierce stance before saying, “Your majesty, I…” but before he could go further in his words, the King cut him short.
“You what, Elder Varlam? You intend to go against my command and stand before me to say what?”
Hearing that, Elder Varlam fell on his knees and quickly said, “No…no, Your Majesty, I… I wouldn’t dare to… I would…”The King cut him off again, “You would, what?”The King crouched before him to be on the same level as the Elder before grabbing his chin between his fingers. “Seems I’ve been quite lenient with how you seem gutsy in confronting me with your words. Your words show that you are not satisfied with how I rule my Kingdom, and you have your opinion on how it should be done.” As the King spoke, his grip on Elder Varlam’s chin tightened.“No… no, your majesty, that’s not what I… I never intend….”“It seems quite well that that was your intention. If not, you would not have returned to show your face before me after I told you to get the f*ck out of my sight. It seems you are eager to know what I am capable of doing to those that go against me. I can do so by starting with you. What do you say?”“Y…your Majesty, I…I beg your pardon if I’ve offended you w…with my words and acti
“I’ve known for a while now. Almost immediately after, she was captured and mistaken as a thief.” The Prince answered reluctantly, understanding what the King meant by his question, saying, Hearing his son’s reply, the King came to a halt and looked at him with a questioning gaze, asking, “Then why didn’t you mention it before now? Why did you keep it to yourself? Why did it take you so long to come out with it since you found out that early? Are you ashamed of a human as your mate? Is that why you didn’t say anything? If so, your mother and I raised you better than that.” The King bombarded him with question after the other.“No, Father, I’m not ashamed of her being my mate.” He heaved out a frustrated sigh and rubbed his face with both hands before continuing, “At first, the signs and bond weren’t vital enough for me to confirm it, and it took me a few weeks of several encounters to be sure. When I was certain of it and was on my way to locate her, I saw her being forced by someon
DivyaFear, anticipation, hope, fear again, sadness, rejection, regret, anxiety, apprehension, and several others were what Divya repeatedly felt as the guards took her back to the dungeon cell that she was in before she was summoned to the court before the King. The cell was her nightmare because, in there, she had been tortured to the core with various excruciating tools that she had ever seen.Hence, the thought of the guards using those tools on her again made her shiver in fear as they walked the corridor leading to her cell.Though she was just an omega from one of the poorest packs in the Kingdom, she had never seen torturous instruments like those used on her. Despite her being an omega, she had never imagined she would end up being in her current situation.Well… that was before she was approached, forced, and sent to work in the Palace as a spy. After she entered the Palace and saw how lovely and kind they were towards each other and to her, guilt, regret, and fear were at t
As she reminisced in pain about her life, hurried footsteps drew her attention back to the present. Scared, she curled, drew closer to the shadows of the walls, and tried to make herself as invisible as possible. However, pain ignited all over her body as she did so, making her let out a strangled whimper. Her body was completely bruised and was not healing as it should have since she was a werewolf, but that wasn’t a surprise for her since she was a late bloomer and had yet to shift. But she wasn’t sure if truly she was a late bloomer or she was just unfortunate not to have a wolf. Though her family tried to hide it in their pack that she was yet to shift, one way or the other, it got out, which was also one of the reasons they were treated harsher than they were supposed to be treated. But she was already used to it. Shaking her head, she brushed aside her thoughts and tried to listen to what was happening around her while anxiously awaiting what was coming next. However, afte
Dante POVI was furious, ranging in uncontrollable anger the moment I stepped into the dungeon and smelt her blood in the air. Before I knew it, my Lycan had taken control from me and dashed towards the person who had attacked her and tore him into pieces without care.Just a minute later, and it would have been too late.Too late to save her.Shredding him had no effect in calming my Lycan, and as I was about to go berserker and look for my next victim, the sight of my mate falling backward, thereby bringing me out of my raging state.I rushed toward her before she could hit her head on the floor and caught her in my arms.Seeing as she was unconscious and hardly breathing, fear gripped my heart, and I called out for someone to call the doctor without having it in my that I could contact him through mind link, which was faster. However, that didn't cross my mind. Audree's PovGrowing up, the burden of inheriting my mum's powers had been on my shoulders.Burnes I never wanted or asked of in the first place. My multiple abilities started showcasing themselves when Mother was still unconscious, and I had foreseen her waking when I was at the age of five, six, or seven; I can't really remember what age I was then. Then the next was hearing animals talk, at first to my younger self, it was pretty fun because I had lots of friends to talk to and was never bored, but as I grew older, I found it annoying because I had to hear everything talk around even when I wanted quietness. Especially when I had not learned to control it and had to listen to animals, even insects talking. I grew to hate it and also didn't find any use for it.Other abilities I discovered were the ability to control elements such as air, water, fire, earth, and so on.Then on my sixteenth birthday, I developed physical enhancement like Mother did. He does not want me… He does not want me… He does not want me… Those were the words that kept repeatedly ringing in my head and mind. My Lycan could not take the thought of him not accepting us and began howling furiously in my head. I could care less about how she was feeling because I was feeling exactly the same way and was instead trying my very best to keep my composure. However, no matter how heartbroken I was at the moment, I could not help but wonder what his business was in the bar and his identity with the way men in black surrounded him. As I fought the feeling of being rejected and my curiosity about my impending mate that seemingly had no interest in me, a shadow of someone befell me from behind. I became alert at the sudden appearance and dangerous aura I perceived coming from the individual. I let out a warning growl and was ready to take action if he tried to attack me. “Miss, sorry to rudely walk up to you without warning, but my young master would like to see
DANTE'S POV They say when a Lycan loses his mate, he loses himself, also. His soul downs into a pit enshrouded in the darkness of despair and pain, and what emerges back to the surface is a beast. A beast that will kill anyone that stands in his path. A beast that will destroy everything destroyable. He would destroy cities and overturn empires. Armies will try to stop him, but his terror will be greater than the combined force of millions of werewolves. They are no match for him, for they do not understand his pain. When a werewolf loses its mate, it can mark another. However, a Lycan only has one... One mate. One chance at eternal happiness. The one chance of happiness that was on the verge of slipping away from my hold. Seeing as the life support that was attached to Divya was sounding erratic, no matter how Aunt Alexa tried to work her magic on her, indicating that her life was slipping away, I let out a heartrending howl that shook the entire palace walls before losing
