a feeling that something bad would happen

On getting to the prince's private quarters, I was extremely tired and fell asleep immediately.

However, I was woken up by a loud noise in the middle of the night and jolted up from the bed, frightened. Initially, I thought it was the prince who had entered the room, but to my surprise, it was a shadow hidden in the darkness of the room that sent chills down my spine.
