Calla’s POV

“What?” My mother’s jaw drop, unable to believe what I’d just said. I looked over at my father to see that he had the exact same look on his face, only it was more intense than that of my mother.

“You must not be serious, there is no way you’re leaving all of this behind to go with Axel, a man you barely know.” My father finally spoke.

I’d thought the dinner table would be the perfect place to break my news, I watched as they both set their cutleries down to look at me as if to ask if I was really okay.

They were shocked and surprised but I wasn’t. I’d just told them I wanted to go with Axel back to his pack.

“But he’s my mate,” I sighed, “I felt the pull and—“

“You’re deciding to go with him even though you know damn well that we don’t approve of him?” My father roared, his thunderous voice sending chills down my spine and the effect of it caused the table to vibrate and the earth to shake as if there was a quake.

“Calla, get a grip on yourself! What the hell is wrong with you!” My mother who is known to be a little bit over dramatic and over protective of me shouted again.

“I know what I’m doing, I can’t have you both deciding who I get to spend the rest of my life with!” I shot at them for the first time in years, “the moon goddess already chose him for me, do you think you know better than her?!” I added, I was equally angry and I didn’t bother to mask up my emotions.

My parents hated Axel, it seemed like they’d met him before and their reaction when I’d introduced them was a cold one, although he shrugged it off and had said he was going to make them warm up to him.

I know my parents are hard to convince and getting them to like someone they in-fact expressed a feeling of hatred towards would be a bit of a task.

“You would leave your own pack, the entirety of all that would be entrusted to you in the future only to follow this man to his?” My father asked, his voice was slightly low now and I could tell that he’s calmed down a bit, although my mother was still fuming.

“Axel is a really sweet man, he’s strong and he’s the kind of mate anyone would pray to the goddess for, he loves me too.” I answered, not directly answering my father’s question.

I’d met Axel under a weird circumstance and I fell in love instantly when my wolf had declared him our mate, since I’d turned eighteen, getting a mate was what mattered to me the most and finding an Alpha like Axel?

That was a dream come true.

“You can’t be mated to someone like Axel, you just can’t. Your mother and I can’t allow it—“

“But, why? You won’t tell me why you can’t allow and you just expect me to follow your lead because you’re my parent? Don’t you want what’s good for me? Don’t you genuinely want my happiness?” I asked, my eyes blurry as the tears welled up in it.

I held myself back as I clenched my fist underneath the table.

“We‘ve always wanted you to be happy, sweetheart. We’re your parents, we know what’s best and you should know we have your best interest at heart, we would never deliberately wish to cause you any harm.” My mother explained as she reached her hand out to me.

She was still angry but her countenance had gotten softer, she’d probably thought the little lecture on how not being with my mate was best for me would help in changing my mind.

“I want him and just him alone, I don’t want anybody else.” I cried, hoping my tears would also change their mind, I watched as my mother softened, she’d gazed at my father who only looked away.

His eyes was bright red and we both could see he was angry, he hated being countered, he’s a king and giving orders was what he was used to.

“You are not following him to his pack and that is final!” My father roared, banging his hand on the table as he stood to take his leave.

“Fine!” I shot back, equally angry as I stood up to face my father, “I’ll leave with or without your permission! I’m old enough and you can’t keep shoving me around like I’m some sort of toy.” I added, standing my ground.

“Good then,” my father said, letting out a wicked smile, “the moment you leave to follow that man to his pack is the day you’ll be renounced as the princess and the sole heir to the throne.” My father added.

He stood his ground, was he disowning me already? But, I didn’t care, I would leave everything behind of it meant I’ll spend the rest of my life with my mate.

“Really?—“

“And when you leave, do not think to come back here anymore because the doors of this building would be shut permanently to you!” He added and like the king he was, I watched as my father walked away gracefully, not giving me another chance to say something else.

“Mother, please say something?” I pleaded as I turned to look at my mother who also looked away as she stood to follow her Alpha, I was now alone at the table, I need to take charge of my own life and if doing what I’m thinking of doing right now is the only way to do so then so be it.

I paced around my room impatiently as I slammed everything my hand touched against the wall, I took my anger out on everything I saw before calming and patiently waiting for the right moment to go along with my plan.

I waited for it to get a little bit darker before leaving the house, I made sure I was quiet as I slowly made my way as I tiptoed to the door.

I heaved out a sigh of relief when I got outside the palace without anyone’s knowledge, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me to where Axel stayed.

“Calla?” I could tell he was surprised to see me, “what are you doing here?” He asked, making his way towards me and ushering me in.

“I’m going to your pack with you.” I said in all excitement and I watched him let out a smile.

“See, I told you they would come around eventually, did they let you come with me?” He asked and was shocked when I shook my head.

“They didn’t but I want this, let’s go together. Let me go with you.” I said, I knew I sounded really desperate and even he could hear it.

“But, Calla, you’re a princess not just an ordinary girl who would—“

“I’m giving it all up.” I cut in, denying myself of all the glory that came with being a princess.

I would be an ordinary girl for Axel and that’s just what I want.

“We’re going together, with or without their approval.”
