Calla’s POV

“My goodness will you just calm down?” Axel shouted but cautioned himself immediately.

“Don’t you dare tell me to calm down, you said you loved me. You said you wanted to spend the rest of your life with me but what did you do? Announce someone else as your Luna?!” My heart fell to my stomach as I heard that.

Axel had said all those things to her and I could hear the anger in her voice as she spoke, I was hurt and confused but I stuck around to hear more of what they were saying.

“You know why I’m doing all this,” Axel sighed as he walked closer to the woman who pulled away from him, “She’s the princess of another strong pack, if you could just give me a little time to finish what I have planned, trust me, you’re still the woman I want to spend the rest of my life and that hasn’t changed.” He added.

I felt something stream down my face and I hadn’t realized I was crying until I tasted the salty liquid that ran from my eyes down my face, I refrained from sobbing loudly as I didn’t want them to know I was listening in on their conversation.

My knees were weak and my legs sent a signal that they couldn’t hold me any longer, I slowly turned to leave and my hand hit something that fell to the ground, causing a loud clanking noise, I ran from the door to the nearest hiding spot I could find before the door opened.

“Who’s there?” I heard his voice as I covered my mouth and clutched my stomach, I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard back there. My chest clenched and my eyes felt dizzy.

My head was aching profusely as I walked down the hall, I needed to leave, I couldn’t stay here any longer, the sight of everything made me sick to my stomach.

I should’ve listened to my parents, I waited for the day to get dark as I’d plotted my escape, I had the old lady tell Axel that I wasn’t in the mood to see anyone.

The house was silent and trying to walk as stealthily as I could, I made my way out of the house and turned to see someone.

“Luna Calla?” He called and I jumped, I recognized him from earlier, Axel had told me he was his trusted guard.

I got scared again and had opened my mouth to talk but instead, I broke down. Confused, he made his way to me as he pulled me closer, leading me out of the premise.

“What’s the matter?” He asked, worried about me.

The thought of opening my mouth to tell him that my mate was only using me for my position, he’d thought of discarding me like a worthless piece when he is done with me broke me again and I let the tears I’d been holding back flow freely.

He took me back inside the house roughly, I’d thought I saw a glint of sympathy in his eyes but I was wrong, he’d took me directly to Axel.

“Where did you find her?” Axel asked, the loving stare I usually see in his anytime he stared at me were now gone and now replaced with hatred and anger.

The guard explained where he’d seen me and Axel knew immediately that I already knew about their plan.

“You were the one in the hallway.” It sounded more like a statement than a question, he’d figured it out.

My cheek stung and I could feel them swollen when his hard palm landed on it, causing me to lose my footing as I fell on the ground.

“We might as well just make the announcement now?” I heard the feminine voice I recognized and my jaw dropped when I saw who it was.

I knew I recognized the voice but I never traced it to her.

It was my best friend, the one I trusted with my life. How had she gotten to bright wood pack before me? I was more hurt by the betrayal from my own friend than that from my mate. I wasn’t expecting to be treated like this, I know I don’t deserve it.

“Yes, baby.” He answered as he placed his palm on her side and leaned in to kiss her. It was as though a dagger was stuck through my heart and had made its way out through my back.

The sight was excruciatingly painful and my stomach tightened as I struggled for breath, it was as though I’d forgotten how to breath. I closed my eyes and sobbed even loudly, something about what I did got him angry because I felt a hard tug on my hair.

He pulled me with my hair out of the room as he made his way downstairs with me following him like I was some sort of rag, eyes were on me as some even spat and laughed at me.

I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole but it didn’t, nothing happened as we got outside.

“This wench really thinks she’d become the future Luna of bright wood pack?” He laughed huskily as the rest of the pack joined in the laughter.

I had never been this humiliated in my entire life and I didn’t think I was ever going to be until now, I watched with a broken heart as he announced my best friend as his real mate and future Luna and I only laid tattered on the ground as my rejection hit me.

My greatest fear had finally come to pass. My heart tightened again as I took another look at her, she was smiling and happy that she snarled at me for just for looking.

I believed friends could betray but I never expected it from her, my mother’s words hit me right that moment, she’d told me it was always the friends.

“An enemy knows already that you don’t trust them, whatever they do, you were expecting but it’s not the same with friends. You trust them, give them your all and when they know they’ve had you to that point they turn against you and it is the worst kind of hurt you could ever feel. An enemy is a thousand times better than a fake friend.” My mother’s word replayed in my head and I bowed my head in defeat and shame, she was right.

Axel was always sweet to me, I didn’t know it was all fake, I cried as I thought about how it all started, how I believed he loved me and how I trusted him so much that I was ready to lay my life down for him.

“I’d give you an option,” Axel’s voice seeped through my mind and filtered through my thought as it brought me back to the present, “you want to be on my good side, give up and join me.” He added and I lifted my head in disgust.

The sight of him made me sick as my stomach tightened, I hate him and everything related to him, including—- her.

“You disgust me, I hate you and I would rather walk on hot coal than join forces with you.” I snarled, mustering up all my courage as I spoke.

“Very well then,” he smirked, his head high up in the air that I could tell he could feel the clouds, “Seize her, torture her and make sure she falls to her feet and begs for mercy.” He seethed.
