Chapter 54

This couldn’t be happening. It just couldn’t.

There was no way Syanna was unconscious in Genevieve’s bed, with no sign of life. She wasn’t even breathing normally, and it took everything in Cole not to burn this damn academy to the ground once and for all.

“Why isn’t she breathing?” Cole demanded as Genevieve stood in front of the bed where Syanna had been lying unconscious for the last two minutes since they arrived.

“She was bitten, Cole.”

“What does that mean?”

Genevieve seemed on edge, as if, for the first time ever, she didn’t know what to do. And Cole didn’t like that. He sort of depended on Genevieve to always know everything and fix things. But now, she was looking at Syanna as if she had no idea what to do, and it terrified Cole.

He paced Genevieve’s room, pulling at the root of his hair as if they were an abomination to him.

“It means,” she said, sounding on edge. “That the vampire venom is killing her slowly.”
