To say I was shocked was un understatement. I couldn't believe that all this time, so many people had been sent to kill my family. Including Anthony.

I gulped and met his eyes, wondering if he somehow still wanted to complete that mission. But he simply continued the story, seeming completely out of it.

“Yes,” Anthony confirmed. “But we had killed the wrong people. Your ancestors were smart—smart enough to stay in hiding well.”

“But you had already murdered hundreds of people.”

“It was about seventy people,” Anthony snapped, though the guilt in his face was evident. “Kids, elders… pregnant women.”

“Oh my gosh.” Syanna couldn’t bear it. Dimitri ordered this sort of evil so he could save his own ass?

“My mama was the first to fold. She wouldn’t do it a second time. My papa, feeling as though he always needed to protect us as the man of the family, begged her to try again. My sister ran away, and I followed her.”
