Silently Falling
Author: Cat Reed

1-Rude guy

"Shea, I'm off to work."

I groaned and turned over in my bed as I heard my mom slam the door. I was the only one left at home, my dad usually goes to his mechanic workshop at seven in the morning.

My parents had just two children due to their financial status- my elder sister and I. My sister got married last year and moved to New York City, leaving me with our parents.

I threw aside the covers and staggered out of bed like a drunkard in my cute Yellow PJs that had the drawing of Mickey mouse.

Cute, right?

My phone beeped as I was about to leave my room, so I staggered back to pick it from my bed, lying back on it in the process. It was a message from my best friend, Dylan.

Dylan: Are you ready?

"Oh no!" My eyes widened as I remembered that he was supposed to take me to the mall before going to my dad's mechanic shop to fix his car for our departure tomorrow.

Dylan and I just got admitted to the university of Toronto, although I got admitted through scholarship. My parents won't be able to afford the tuition fees and all so I studied hard in highschool and got a scholarship.

We were supposed to leave for Toronto today but I still wanted to get a few things while Dylan wanted to fix his car. So we decided to leave tomorrow, Saturday.

Dylan: I'm almost there.

Another text entered. Quickly, I jumped out of bed and made my way to the bathroom. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I slumped.

"Whyyy?" I cried out as I looked at the big red pimples that had appeared on my face overnight. There were about seven of them, scattered all over my face. I couldn't pop them now because Dylan is almost here and he'll kill me if I wasn't ready.

There was no time to use my concealer, so I just rinsed my face and pulled my black hair into a messy bun. I changed my clothes into a pair of faded blue jeans and threw on a white tank top. Just as I was about to pick my black purse, I heard a honk outside. Dylan was here.

"I'm coming." I yelled, but I knew he wouldn't hear me. I ran out of my room and past our living room, I locked the door and put the keys under a flower vase beside the door. The flower in it was dying and begging for water as its green leaves were already turning yellow. My mom never really cared for the plants around the house and neither do I.

I turned around to look at Dylan , he waved at me as he bobbed his head slowly to the song that was playing. I opened the car door and sat beside him.

"Hey." I said as I ruffled his soft brown hair, before buckling the seat belt.

"I figured you just woke up since you didn't reply to my texts so I got you this on my way here." He said as he stretched his hands towards the back seat and handed me a doughnut, coated with sugar. My favorite.

"You're the best, Dylan." I said happily. One of the reasons I like Dylan, he always knows what I need when I need them. We've been friends since preschool and have never separated since then.

"Shea!" He called out abruptly, staring at me as I stuffed my face with the doughnut, the sugar spreading all over my lips.

"What?" I asked him, with a mouthful of doughnut.

"What happened to your face? You look like shit."

Oh! That.

"I know, I just woke up this morning and they were all over my face." I explained to him as I kept eating.

He started the car and drove out of our driveway towards the mall. Popstar by Drake started playing on the stereo. Another reason Dylan and I clicked was music, we have the same taste in music.

"I'm a popstar, but this shit ain't bubblegum, yeah,

"You would probably think my manager is Scooter Braun, yeah." Dylan rapped along, his brown hair scattering on his face as bopped his head to the beat.

I smiled and joined him," But my manager with twenty hoes in Buddakan, yeah, Ayy. Look, Ariana, Selena, my-"

The song stopped playing as Dylan stopped the car in front of the mall.

"Dude, you know that's my favorite part." I frowned at him as I unbuckled the seat belt.

"Yeah, it's my favorite part too that's why I can't let you sing it with that voice of yours. Bro, you sing like a crying duck." He laughed.

"Ducks don't cry. Anyways, do you need anything?" I asked as I opened the car door.

"Not really, but I'd love some chocolates. I'll pick you up by nine o'clock tomorrow morning and don't be late."

"Okay, okay, fine." I rolled my eyes and gently closed the door and watched him drive away.

The sky had delved into dark clouds, roiling and heaving like it was going to start raining anytime soon and I was most likely going to get stuck in that rain.

I walked into the mall that seem less busier than usual today, I picked a basket and walked round the sections to get what I wanted.

"Tampons, check. Check, check, check. I said to myself as I confirmed the list of the things I wanted to buy on my phone.

"Umm, peanut butter..." I raised my head from my phone and looked around for the peanut butter section. When I found it, I noticed that there was just one Nutella peanut butter left, and it was way above my reach. I tiptoed, stretched my hands and tried to reach it but I couldn't.

This 5fts isn't doing me any good. I looked around for someone that could help me pick it but there was no one around this section.

I sighed, and stretched my hands again, but I still couldn't reach it. Suddenly, I felt a tall body behind me reach out to pick the peanut butter easily.

Oh! Thank goodness. I heaved a sigh of relief.

"Thank you so..." I blinked as I looked back only to see the six foot tall guy in a leather jacket already walking away from me with the peanut butter in his cart.

"Hey, that's mine." I called out as I walked towards him. I stood in front of him with my hands folded on my chest.

He looked up at me and oh damn!

My hands dropped to my sides and I wanted to sink into the ground immediately.

Tanned skin, long lashes, blonde hair. His green eyes caught my attention first. He was beautiful. His brows were curved into a frown and his full lips were moving. He was talking to me.

"I'm sorry, what?" I asked. He looked at me like I was some weirdo.

"What do you want?" He asked rudely.

"Umm, the peanut butter. It's mine." I pointed at the peanut butter in the cart in between us.

"Is your name written on it?"

"No." I answered slowly, wondering why he asked that.

"Then I guess it's not yours." He said and began to move the cart to my left side. I moved to the side and stood in front of him again.

"But I wanted to pick it first." I whined as I looked up at him.

"I picked it first. This is ridiculous, will you just step aside? I have better things to do." He said and pushed his cart past me while I stood there dejected.

Heaven knows I was supposed to have that peanut butter, I couldn't blame my mom for making me inherit her genes.

I had calculated little things I picked in my basket and made sure I had enough money to pay for it. I decided to leave the peanut for the handsome rude guy.

--

"That'll be thirty five dollars." The cashier said. It was the same amount I had calculated earlier. I took the money out of my old worn out black purse and gave it to the cashier. He packed the goods for me and told me to have a nice day.

I walked out of the mall and noticed that the rain would start falling any time soon. A drop of rain plopped right on my nose, then another, and another, then it started to drizzle.

I decided to seek shelter in the mall until it stops raining. I covered my face with my hand and turned around, only to collide with a hard chest. Startled, everything I was holding fell down.

"Shit." I said and bent down to pick them up. I looked up and met with green Iris staring irritatingly at me. It was the handsome rude guy. I was still mad at him for stealing my peanut butter.

"Are you blind?" He blurted out in harsh tone.

I blinked at him in shock.

"Do the world a favor and watch where you're going." He muttered rudely, brushing off his leather jacket like I had contaminated it with my head.

"You have eyes that work, use them and stop irritating people around you." He continued to insult me. My face was red from anger but I kept my cool. I wasn't about to fight with a hot dude in the rain. He was about to walk away but he looked down at my chest. I was already drenched from the rain, making the white tank top I wore glue to my body, exposing my pink bra. I gasped and covered my chest with my hand as soon as I noticed that was what he was looking at.

"You pervert!"

He chuckled, eyed me again and started to walk towards a sleek black bike, packed at the side of the road.

First, he stole my peanut butter, and now he was ogling me, what an asshole!

"Asswipe!" I said, loud enough for him to hear me. He was about to put on his black helmet but he stopped and stared at me with a hard glare.

"What did you call me?"

"You're such an asswipe." I repeated and ran off down the street. There was no point in going to the mall anymore, I was already drenched thanks to the handsome rude guy.
