Chapter Six: Running into fine men

Chapter Six

Song- OUT OF THE BLUE- Fluerie

……………………………………..

MAYA POV

……………

“Hold the elevator!!” I yelled as my feets picked up pace and i tucked a loose strand of hair away from my face, i was not late but if i didnt get to the office in the next thirty minutes on my first day then i should be expecting to be fired. I heard the sound of the elevator door and i turned up the corner.

My eyes locked with the same man i had left an hour ago, and while his gaze was on me, i watched as his fingers reached out and pressed the button.

It took my five seconds to realize that he was closing up the doors. He was closing up the doors.

My brows narrowed and i skipped further, hoping to get in the just in time, Malcolm eyes followed me in a cold gaze as the gaze slid shut. I banged my hands on the closed doors but it was all futile. He had intentionally locked the doors on me, i clenched my fists as i tried to think of less ways to murder Malcolm.

I sighed and threw my head back lightly.

“Are you okay miss?” I felt the presence from beside me before i slowly opened my eyes. My gaze landed on his black slacks and then up to his white dress shirt neatly tucked in, he wore single rim glasses that framed his face and highlighted his light blue eyes. Blonde hair and a persona that was easy to read from the way he sent a smirk my way and eyed me in my suit pants and silk top. He was one of those douche who thinks he could sweep any woman off his feet. I turned away from him and stared at the elevators doors and then at my wrist to check the time. I had twenty minutes.

Shit.

With a tight smile, i moved towards the stairs, ignoring the look that followed me as i skipped down. It was normal to want to jump from the top down to the last floor but then that would draw a lot of attention.

I retreated back to the elevator and it pulled open, the blonde guy watched me as i stepped in beside him. Even with him far gone, i could trace the light scent of Malcolm there.

“First day of work?” i turned to the guy beside me. He had his hands shoved in his pockets as he stared at me. Play nice Maya.

“Yes.” i replied too firmly. I looked down at my watch again.

“I can see the unsettlement and the back and forth, i had the same jitters to during my first day of work.” he said but my face was straight ahead, i didnt want to indulge and i sucked in my lips to keep myself from warning him off.

“But you will do great, i trust you will.” he said at the same time the doors pulled open. “My name is Caleb and i-”

“I’m sorry but i dont want to be rude, i really have to go.” My words tumbled out with a tight smile on my face, Caleb nodded but didnt stop staring as i peeled away.

“At least tell me your name?” he yelled out but i had already flagging down a cab to get inside.

………………………………………………………………………………

Six minutes. I had six minutes to spare and i was livid. Malcolm was going to pay for that stunt he pulled, even with the smile i passed to the receptionist desk i was already making plans-

“Good morning.”

“Good morning, you must be Anya Henry.” the woman asked as she glanced down at something on her computer. Her smile broadened and she pushed out of her chair, and walked out to meet me.

“Right this way.” She walked, the sound of her heels echoing against the marble tiles, i made sure to take notice of the reception room. The place was widely spaced and unlike the first time i was here, the space had more people, and they all seemed to have a certain business to attend to, most of which were men. Several of them caught my gaze as i studied them but it didnt last when the receptionist pressed the elevator button. I followed and tucked my hands beind my back with my chin up.

“Welcom to Omni- corp, we are delighted to have you join in our family, we do hope that this relationship wax strong for great work. I’m Anna and i’ll be your guide.” she said exposing her teeth in a warm smile. “You’re also lucky today because the CEO will be coming in today, he is doing so roundly checks, he does this frequently and might i warn you, its kinda unpredictable, especially with his right hand man.” As the doors opened, the nuts in my head went off, i wasn’t aware of whom his right hand was, and while i made a mental note to ask Jake to do a search for me.

“Are we going to cross paths with the CEO?” I asked as we walked down the hallway.

“Not really, he might be hold up in his office- its been-” her words fade off as i turned off the corner and i knocked into someone falling back but instead of colliding to the ground, strong arms reached out to hold up and while my natural instincts was to throw down to the floor, i restricted myself to not cause a scene and-

“Woah, easy there. We dont want you hurting yourself now.” A deep baritone voice came from the man in front of me.

Short curly hair, olive green eyes, sharp full brows, cheekbones sharp enough to slice through the tension in the air, and built form covered in a dark blue expensive suit, but my eyes focused on the face of the man holding me.

“Lucas, what are you doing? We dont-” My face soured as i heard Malcolm round up the corner coming into view.

“Uh- Mr. Lucas, you’re going on this floor again?” Anna stated, her voice was filled with professionalism.

Mr. Lucas? My brows creased as i stared at the sight in front of me.

“You must be new,” he said and let me go, i took a step back and cleared my throat. The man in front of me extended his hands out to me for a shake, i eyed it carefully but i watched Malcolm expression darkened as i took his hands.

“I’m Lucas Satiago, CEO of Omni-Corp.”
