Chapter Five

Song- AIMED TO KILL- Jade LeMac

………………………………………

MAYA POV

……………

I groaned as i opened my eyes and stretched my bones as i got out of bed. I rubbed the sides of my neck and climbed out of the comfortable bed and moved to the windows. The blinds covered them and i pushed them apart as i stared down into the darkness, the sun was yet to rise but there were traces of its light from a far off.

I closed the curtains and moved to the bathroom where i washed my face and brushed my teeth. I changed out of my sleeping clothes and put on my sports short and a sports bra, i wiggled into the large black hoodie which covered my upper thighs. I checked my phone for any news or updates but my screen was blank as i received none. I put on my shoes grabbed my headset and phone and stepped out of my room.

My eyes scanned over the door opposite me, Malcolms room, i checked on my button lips and walked away.

I took the stairs to the hotel gym and when i got to there, i prayed silently that no one was there, to my disappointment the lights were on but no one was in sight. I sighed in relief and tugged my hoodie over my head and placed my headset on. I moved towards the threadmills, which i set to my par, i allowed the low orchestra music flood into my ears as i started out. Allowing myself to be carried away i closed my eyes and allowed my legs carry me.

My eyes snap open when the feeling of being watched crawled over my skin. In the mirror in front of me, i spotted the intruder who had their eyes on me, Malcolm.

He was standing by one of the benches facign me with sweat dripping down his face, my eyes narrowed in on him and i swallowed when my eyes drifted down his upper body, he was shirtless, i didnt tempt myself and returned my eyes back to his.

I waited, ready to give a comeback incase he said anything, but he didnt. Instead he turned away like he didnt see me and climbed unto the bench.

“Great.” i muttered under my breath as my thighs began to burn, Malcolm was clearly ignoring my existence. I should do the same too. My phone shirlled out and i accepted the call, knowing well who would call at this time.

“Jake-” he was assigned to work with me, he owed me a big favour and his tech skills were all i needed for my mission.

“You sound out of breath-” he said but i ignored his remark and waited for him to continue. “Right. I just want to let you know that you got the job.” He said and i tried not to roll my eyes at the news.

“Ofcourse i was going to get it with your help-” i started to say but Jake sighed and i slowed down on my running.

“I didnt have a hand in it, they gave it to you without any external interference.” he said and the treadmill stopped, i remained on the spot as i tried to analyze his words. I had gotten the job without any external influence, how?

“Maya- are you still there?” Jake asked but i had my gaze already on the man in the room with me.

“I’ll talk to you later, send me the details.” i ended the call and removed the headset as i walked towards Malcolm who was currnetly pushing up weights. He remained pushing, ignoring that i was in front of him until i cleared my throat and folded my arms over my chest.

“What do you want?” he asked not locking eyes with mine and it pissed me off.

“Why did you do it?” i asked and he placed the weights down and raised his head. Our eyes locked and it was difficult to read the expression in his eyes.

“I’ll need more context than that maya.” he said with a mocking tone as he rose up to his feet. Malcolm easily towered over me, his frame was larger and his muscles thoroughly fit in the right places, i controlled my breathing and met his gaze again.

“Why did you let them hire me?” i cleared and his brows shot up as if he was surprised as well.

“I didn’t.” he replied and walked past me. I turned and stared at him , he had grabbed his shirt from one of the poles but didnt bother tugging it on.

“But- you knew that i was lying about who i was-” he turned to face me and then took up the remaining steps between us, my breath hitched in my throat but i didnt let him see how being close affected me.

“It doesnt matter Maya, you got the job because they sought you fit for the position and not because i say so.” he said and with that he walked away from me and exited the gym. I remained on the spot and after he disappeared in the corner, i released my breath.

Why did he allow them to hire me when he knew who i was? I frowned as questions crossed my mind. Something was up with Malcolm and either he really didn’t care or he was hiding something from me.

I finished my routine and returned back to my room, peeling off my clothes i stepped into the shower and turned on the cold water on, i bit hard on my lips as the water collided with my skin, it took a couple of seconds to relax and then my hands raked through my hair, I massaged my scalp and closed my eyes as my body reacted to the motion.

Pictures of solid muscles flashed in my head and i stopped my fingers in my hair. Stong shoulders, firm taint muscles enough to make me squirm-

“What is wrong with you Maya? He is your enemy.” i hissed as i raised my head up and the water patted down.

In my head i knew that he was the enemy but deep down i couldnt control my mind from replaying the frames of him in front of me neither the way my fingers will feel against him.

Malcolm was everywhere and if i didnt do something about it, i might just lose control.
