Chapter Four: Threats that make your heart beat

Chapter Four

Maya POV

“Your name is Anya Henry?” Malcolm asked as he reached for my the clipboard which was passed to them, his eyes skimmed over the information, i watched his face for a more broader reaction but his face remained unchanging. What was going on in his head?

“Yes-” he raised his head to stare at me as i replied. It was almost as if he was ready to tear my lie apart and call me out but instead he leaned back in his seat and crossed his hands over his chest.

“Tell us, why do you want to work here?” He asked and the rest of the team remained quiet, Malcolm easily carried the room with his authouritative aura and his hands crossed over his chest as his eyes nailed me.

“I have what your company needs and would love to build an experience with my stay here, both with the company as an organization and the people in it.” i answered smoothly with my eyes still on him.

“I see. Tell us Anya- what did you do before you applied for this job?” He asked and his lips stretched out in a smirk, but i was ready to answer this question. I was prepared for this.

“I worked in an NGO which focused on diversity and culture preservation, i worked as a team lead under one of the guides.” i answered with my voice bold and unshaking, Malcolm leaned foward and crossed his hands together.

“I see, well i think thats all.” My eyes buldged out of my sockets and Malcolm’s colleagues turned to him.

“Wait, what?” the words fell out of my mouth and malcom stared at me. “Thats it?”

“Is there something wrong with the interview?” He asked flipping through the papers.

“U- no- I just-”

“One rule here at Omni corp is that we are precise about what we want and don’t handle things lightly.” he stated pausing to glance up at me.

“I have a question to ask her Malcolm.” Derek said drawing both our attention to him.

“What is your take on loyalty?” It was an out of the blue question but it couldn’t keep me speechless.

“Its an important tool to thrive anywhere, either as a person or an individual, it breaks all laws of morality as it shows where a man’s heart is. When a man signs an oath, he should stay with it until death do him part.” Derek smiled and then he clapped his hands together.

“I like her, so far she has given us answers that are way above the norm and she is pretty intelligent.” Derek said but Malcolm’s gaze was on me.

“Lets take a break, shall we?” He said and slid out of his chair as he walked out of the conference room, my eyes followed him until the doors closed and when i turned back to derek he was staring at me.

“You’re dismissed Anya.” i passed him a small smile and stepped out of the room, while i was about to leave to the waiting area strong hands reached out and grabbed me pulling me into another room. My urge to resisit died down when i stared into Malcolm’s eyes, there was no need to make a scene, especially here.

“What are you doing here Maya?” he said through tight teeth as he trapped me in the corner. I swallowed as i stared up at his face and his cologne ran over me with him being very close.

“What does it look like i’m here for? I’m here for a job Malcolm-” a low dangerous chuckle escaped his lips.

“Don’t play games with me Maya, we both know that you have a JOB-” he emphasized on the job and glared down at me. “And why in the hell is your name Anya Henry?”

“I don’t have to answer to you Malcolm, now let me go.” i said and oushed against his chest to give me space but it was a wrong move on my end as he grabbed my wrist stopping me from pushing hard against his chest.

“Oh you have to if you want to get a JOB here ANYA, now tell me, why are you here?” he repeated firmly not letting go of my hand.

“Its none of your business.” i snapped trying to push against him but it was impossible as he had no intention of letting me go. “I am here because i need a fresh start, i need a job to keep me going and Omni corp just seems to be hiring.” I lied through my teeth while staring at his dark eyes.

“Now, its my turn. Why are you here? I was sure as hell that you weren’t working in any corperate body, so what exactly are you doing here Malcolm.” his grip on my wrist slacked but i don’t pull away instead i follow his eyes and wait for his answer.

“I work here too,” there was no way i could believe that.

“I dont believe you.” i said and he rolled his eyes.

“And i do not care Maya,” he said and walked closer to me. I remained unmoving as i couldn’t let him intimidate me but it was dangerous for him to be this close, my sense were flaring red and so was my heart beat.

“What i do know is that i won’t take it lightly with you, i know who you are and what you are, and if you’re not so careful things will not end however you want it.” his baritone voice loomed in the air.

“Is that a threat?” i asked. Malcolm leaned closer taking me by surprise as i held my breath and his mouth hovered right next to my ear.

“There is only one way to find out.” His words set goosebumps to rake all over my skin, “And trust me Maya, you don’t want to go down that road.”
