Eight

Everette stands in front of a house and stares at it. Which house is she? Seraphina! Yes, Seraphina, her legs brought her to Seraphina's house. She holds onto the towel more tightly and keeps staring at it. Should she go in there? If she does, she will have to tell her everything, everything that happened. What if she criticizes her too? Seraphina has been her childhood friend. She should understand her.

The door opens and Seraphina comes out holding a trash can. She drops it at the front of their house where the pick up van will come pick it up and turns to get inside when her eyes cross with Everette.

"Everette!" She calls surprised and moves her eyes around her body. "Why are you like this?" She murmurs and walks over to her.

Everette heard someone whisper behind her and turned to the direction. The passers by! They are going their way but it seems like they are talking about her.

"Stop talking about me!" She screams at them and some halt in their step.

"What's wrong with her?" They whisper amongst each other.

"Everette!" Seraphina calls again when she moves closer to her.

"Tell them to stop talking about me. They know nothing about me." She screams at them and the passers by had to quicken their steps due to her abnormal behavior.

"She's crazy."

"Everette stop!" Seraphina pulls her and walks her into the house. She sat her down on the couch. "What's wrong with you?"

"They were talking about me. Do I look that weird?" Everette says with a shaky breath.

"They weren't talking about you. They were going their way and yes, you look weird. What the hell happened? What did Jim do to you?" Seraphina asks her. Everette raises her head to look at her before bursting into tears.

Seraphina moves and sits down close to her while comforting her. "It's okay. I will get you tea. You look cold."

She stands up and heads towards the kitchen. Everette takes off the towel as it was already wet. She cuddles herself up on the couch by placing her leg on it.

Seraphina comes back and hands over a hot tea to her. "Thank you."

"What's wrong? Why are you this way?" She asks her.

"Mom…. Mom sent me out of the house." Recalling the hurtful words brings tears back to her eyes but she was quick to choke it back in.

"What? Why?" Seraphina exclaims not understanding a thing.

"I… during the party, I was drunk and someone slept with me. I woke up the next morning and saw I was disvirgined." She explains to her.

"Oh My God… is that why Jim left you on the altar and your mom sent you out of the house?" Seraphina asks.

"Yes."

"Your parents are crazy, I think." Seraphina chuckles aloud. Actually, she has always been the carefree type of girl and finds nothing wrong in it. She feels a bachelorette party is the last party to singlehood so you enjoy the moment. She finds everything they did to her wrong.

"Jim is crazy too. Are you trying to tell me he is a virgin himself? So he dumped you because of that. You all are crazy." Seraphina declares and flings her hands in annoyance.

"You can stay here for the meantime. I'm here, alone."

"Thank you so much Seraphina." She doesn't know where she will sleep if Seraphina does not take her in. She can't sleep on the street but it seems she will if she has nowhere to go.

"Go inside and get some rest. You look sick." Everette touches her skin and realizes her temperature is increasing.

"Thanks, I will." She gets up and finds her way inside.

"Didn't you pick anything at hand?" Seraphina asks when she notices Everette's hands were empty. Her phone!

"Yea, I wasn't able to." Everette wasn't given a chance to pick her phone or other necessary things since she didn't expect her mom to send her away like that. She just hopes she comes around soon and calls her back home.

"Your mom is too heartless." Seraphina says nonchalantly. She can't imagine her mom doing that to her.

"She isn't…." Everette wants to protest and defend her mother when Seraphina's phone rings. She rolls her eyes at her and plans to let it slide this time. But next time, she won't.
