Chapter 25: What Did He Just Say?

“Did he mention what it could possibly be?” Alexander asks me curiously before waiting patiently for my answer.

Silence falls across the room as I mull over what to say to him. Shall I tell him what Jeffery thinks it may be? Or should I wait because if I am not pregnant, it might do more harm than good. I could just see him getting excited at the prospect of having babies, only to have him become sullen when he finds out that we won’t be expecting any. Even worse, if his brother has poisoned me, will he kill him?

Not wishing to think about either choice right now, I finally shrug my shoulders, and then say slowly in a whisper, “He has a few theories, but we shouldn’t discuss this until the test results come back. I wouldn’t want you to get upset until we know for sure.”
